  1. We suggested the client should take the precaution of storing the old kitchen until the new one arrived. It isn't going to arrive so at least he has some units.
  2. 2m boundary if you are on your own in an empty room is still ok. The problem is on big sites with workers arriving on public transport and not distancing on site. I could have carried on with most of the planbed work under the current guidelines but it wasn't worth the risk of it changing overnight. We will have a cushion of work if we ever get back. I could have slotted a big job in for a school, booked for Easter. Of course although the schools are shut, they are still open.
  3. I think by friday all construction and building work will cease, just emergency call outs. The builders merchants are open but you phone the order in and they deliver. This won't last long. I have shut up shop completely except my admin sending out furlough notices and finishing remote set up to pay wages and bills. The last job in an empty property is finished so the owner can fit his kitchen back in and move back home. Turn the lights out as you leave. The graphs I have seen show if we rigidly follow the advice the peak they are aiming for is past in 8 weeks, too soon and it leaps again in the summer, to slow and the peak comes in autumn and winter. It really is finley balanced. I have seen the plans for the new hospital at Excel, it frightened the cr#p out of me, this is serious planning. Plan for it but hope we don't need even half the capacity. It is reassuring that the goverment are organised, the public just need to LISTEN and ISOLATE. Now.
  4. Strange times. A lovely service. Farewells are always hard.
  5. Make sure if you are copy paste to remove the - at the start of the pass word
  6. The old mother in law falls into that category, fortunately she has her own rooms so Matron will be the only one allowed in. The new temporary hospital at Excel is a stark reminder of just how serious this is. My Sister in Law is a gardener at the crematorium and they are all being retrained to operate the cremators. Her complaint is, what about the gardens, we have worked hard to get them nice. Some people just don't get it. Stay safe Ian and Marina
  7. They are black listed, i don't deal with people like that. On the other hand so many people are offering help to others, The world is mostly a good place.
  8. Sorry M, You can still travel to a dentist, the problem is trying to get an appointment.
  9. If all else fails and you cant get it changed it might be worth trying a bit of wd40 in the crack, it makes it disappear for a while on phone screens, allegedly.
  10. flexibility and common sence needed at the moment. I have spent the morning on a job we are doing making sure all the guidelines are in place and followed, then into the office with two others, correctly distanced. We have canceled all further surveys and all planned work. Without exception, everyone was understanding. Then we had a phone call, the first one in two days, can we do a survey, sorry no and explained why. The reply was, well i will find someone who can be bothered. They are now blocked from calling again, blooming muppets. I now hsve to find things to occupy me for however long. I will wash the cars, haven't done that in many years. I have the Broom Scorpio at home for the first time ever, i can feel a few jobs being done that probably don't need doing.
  11. Take them out and send them recorded delivery
  12. It seems to be a long-term plan or dream.
  13. Griff, an empty house is a construction site, no restrictions other than social distancing. At the moment. Merchants can all open, again with restrictions. Good luck.
  14. MM, they say one period of exercise a day, In your example, i don't see a problem unless the marina ban you. If I was to drive 140 miles to the boat, that would be wrong. I do worry about all the new exercise and DIY converts causing themselves injury.
  15. A lot of computers are going to be left switched on in offices. A lot of builders merchants are closed today to sort out procedures for access, sticky tape on the floor in most cases. Places like B&Q and Wickes are opening tomorrow with measures including limited numbers instore at any time.
  16. Michael Gove has just repeated that construction sites can stay open. Garages are on the list of exempt businesses along with hardware stores, all with social distancing.
  17. Hi Bob, I would guess it would only be an extension to existing facilities.
  18. Brundall broad was closed many years ago as an experiment. It is still owned by the marina. There was talk about opening access for marina use, that may have been shelved because of cost. I doubt it would ever be available for public access, why would the owner pay those costs without any return.
  19. Happy birthday Ian, Enjoy your day as best you can.
  20. Just shows how quick things are changing, breakfast, one thing, dinnertime another. At least they are working it out.
  21. I believe it is being used for NHS staff. They originally had both at the same time until they thought about it.
  22. John, there has been an announcement that delivery arrangements are being made for the most at risk, those being ' shielded' The list is not the same as those who are vulnerable.
  23. Paladin, I can honestly say, in all the years I have read your posts you have never ' raised' your voice. The fact that you have reflects the genuine anger everyone is feeling towards the greedy and selfish in society.
  24. The danger is that the whole country shuts down and nobody is working, against needless travel spreading the virus. It is already kicking off about holiday makers traveling to Norfolk. Getting in your own car and driving without stop to Norfolk, with all your supplies, then staying on your own boat is different to going by public transport to a holiday camp. The difference is that one guy will have work available to him. This scenario is a long way from people crowding together in pubs and restaurants, even on the last evening they are allowed to open, that is plain selfish and irresponsible. Everything could change by friday. The term 'lockdown' is used in the media, so far, this has meant social distancing. This appears to prevent 75% of transmission. Travel to work has been allowed in most countries. If social distancing is not followed, who knows what will follow. The important thing to remember is this is not forever.
  25. I employ a good number of people, i am relieved and encouraged by the unprecedented support. We will work as long as it is available, then we will go into hold until it picks up, as it will. I won't get paid, i will survive, as long as my staff are paid and i have a bit of support with my fixed overheads, we will be ready to be up and running. This is not like 2008, It is not an economic recession, it is like a natural disaster. I estimate we will be getting back to near normal in a couple of months, IF, people practice social distancing and WASH YOUR HANDS. My biggest concern is the younger generation not taking it seriously.
