  1. Modern technology saves Nana's Easter cake decorating with the grandchildren.
  2. Perhaps their equipment overstates their authority, a bit like the traffic wombles who patrol the motorways trying to project a certain image that doesn't refect the powers they have
  3. It is fine for the people of Norfolk to say the area is closed and you can't come but ok for those in Norfolk to question the authority of the government and subsequently the police to say don't use the rivers. Am i the only one seeing double standards.
  4. Over enthusiasm by some officers is going to happen, they are few and far between, they are being 'educated' on how to implement these new rules. Even a Chief Constable has had his wtist slapped. Half the problem is the press are hunting down every incident to fill their pages and justify their existence.
  5. Everyone is making sacrifices, I have had to close 2 businesses that i started from nothing nearly 40 years ago. I doubt one will be worth restarting. The list of exercise was limited, that is it. Now is not the time to start adding to it to please a minority, and lets be honest, boaters and other water users are a very small minority in the greater scheme of things. I would rather wait 6 months to get back out and about than lose another doctor, nurse or member of society. If people insist on breaking the guidelines issued by the government then they deserve the full wait of the law. The public are encouraged to report the fools to the police, the rangers are doing no different. In my view flocking to Norfolk to boats or second homes is no different to taking a boat out, they are both putting others at risk unnecessarily. Stay safe and Stay at home, let the ones who are risking their own and their families lives get on with what they are doing.
  6. Did you try the jet wash first, I have found cilit mould and mildew killer works well on stubborn areas.
  7. Griff, what do you use to deep clean the slate, i have acres of chinese green slate patio, pressure washer has worked well for the last 12 years but it is looking a bit tired and has some ingrained mildew. I did try a clear resin coat years ago, big mistake, it clouded after 2 years and was a pain to get it off.
  8. The full toll will be payable on any hire boat if it is used during the season Yep.
  9. Mostly because a minority can't be trusted to follow basic instructions thereby putting others at risk. Making masks out of scraps of material is pointless and gives a false sense of security, medical masks aren't made from scraps but specialist materials, It surely can't be that difficult to follow the governments instructions for a period of weeks in order to save potentially thousands of lives. It isn't the biggest sacrifice people of this country have ever been asked to make.
  10. Depends when you are due to go. reasonable time has a different meaning at the moment.
  11. It is always useful to hear both sides and also hear direct from source rather than third or fourth hand.
  12. We can't travel to our boats, we can't enter our marinas and we can't use the rivers. This is because of government instruction to contain the virus. We are not getting a refund on road fund or a reduction in mooring fees but some people are expecting a reduction in the tolls. Quite incredible.
  13. The RSPCA were saying the other day that they have no evidence of transmission to pets, I wonder if they will need to review this.
  14. Or just check for webbed feet before allowing entry
  15. I suspect they were deliberately vague to start with to avoid panic, things will be tightened a bit further as the public become accustomed to the existing restrictions. We tend to not have a culture that would accept marshal law and troops on the streets. I live out in semi countryside with open space and fields and a good size garden but I am not a big fan of exercise anyway. I do think, do I need to go out and should I go out. I know a walk to get to a bit of open space is ok, driving is not. If I lived in a town I would walk to a park but not drive to the countryside. There have been instances of people driving from Bromley to Folkstone to walk on the beach, not good. The bigger problem is groups of teenagers gathering together, we all know how difficult they can be to keep indoors normally but the parents obviously think it is ok for them to go out and bring the virus home. I do wonder how many of these sudden converts to exercise are normally couch potatoes. .
  16. Paul, Or we, the public, just need some common sense. Legislation takes years to perfect, this was rushed out as emergency legislation, there will be gaps but we need to, in this instance, follow the spirit, not necessarily the letter of the law. BBQs on the beach today at Brighton, that is just plain irresponsible. It would be great to walk in the hills, be on the rivers but we can't, for a while yet. There are still too many people who think it doesn't apply to them, only to others. It is better to take the restrictions short term than to be dead or possibly kill someone else. This is after less than two weeks, if people carry on ' bending' the guidance it will stop being ' guidance' and become a total lockdown.
  17. I have a number 8 and liberal use of thinning sissors, they are special ones that mostly cut grey hairs only I may be going grey but it is still a luxuriant mop.
  18. Great detail. If that is Griff you might need more gray on top, he is a grandad big time now.
  19. It has more drama now than Crossroads ever managed
  20. This was written by my 21 year old niece, It makes sobering reading and breaks my heart. THIS IS A PLEA. My house mates and I are student nurses and midwives, and we are about to return to placement, where we will be facing this pandemic on the front-line. We'll be used as numbers to tackle the understaffed, underfunded circumstances, we will still have to complete university assignments, we may now have have our placement extended so we can't qualify as planned in July, we are still paying £9250 a year in tuition fees and we aren't paid a penny. While everyone is in isolation, we are all missing friends, family and partners, but when we eventually do return to social distancing, we as frontline staff will remain separated from our loved ones due to the high risk of us having or carrying the virus. Whole hospitals are being turned into Intensive care units, with an urgent requirement for ventilation, intubation and oxygenation equipments. Staff are undergoing new training everyday to keep up to date with the constant changes to keep the public, patients and ourselves safe. A whole new 'hospital' has been set up with thousands of beds sandwiched between morgues. Nurses are being re-enrolled from retirement and students may be asked to graduate and work early. NHS staff are not being provided with WHO recommended PPE. Today we got informed that even resuscitation measures cannot remain the same for covid patients. Doctors are dying, nurses are dying, people's loved ones are dying alone in hospital. This is not a joke. Unfortunately however, some are taking it as such. My housemates, my colleagues and I are beginning to get incredibly frustrated having to convince people to stay at home. This isn't an option, it's government enforced. People think that rules don't apply to them, that just because they aren't symptomatic they can go out. 80% of people only show minor symptoms, but this virus is so incredibly contagious. This is such a challenging, uncertain time for everyone, but if we all do our bit, to not only protect ourselves but protect others, we can literally save thousands of lives, and that may well end up being the life of someone you hole dear. WE GO TO WORK SO THAT YOU CAN STAY AT HOME. PLEASE DO!!!
  21. The biggest problem is the journalists, they have to snipe and try to undermine.
  22. The banks got a very public reminder of how they were helped out without delay. No suprise that they would rather direct businesses to their higher rate loans. They have shorter memories than businesses and this government.
  23. Is it better to buy a few hundred tests and evaluate them, then order 3.5 million and wait Or Order 3.5 million and hope they are accurate but test they are acurate before sending out to use. A bad test is worse than no test. If it takes 'committees' to get us through and cut through red tape at a time like this, bring it on. The police are interpreting the law, some got over eager. They have now received 'guidance'. All these things normally happen over months or years normally, they are being implemented in days. These aren't normal times and require different measures. I am just grateful we have leadership from above rather than an orange buffoon with his head in the sand. Stay safe.
