  1. Brammerton is very bad for the same boats being there 2 or 3 days in a row I have seen this quite a few times
  2. What worried me was when I was in hospital having cut off two fingers and the surgeon came to speak to me about re- attaching them I looked at the white "crocs" he was wearing and they were marked with his name and a large L and R That put the wind up me alright !!!
  3. I there anything more sickening and disgusting than political correctness in any of its guises The world is coming apart and all these cretins worry about is not upsetting minorities or other causing offence Its enough to make you puke
  4. We moored 2nd from end at St Bennets on Friday and as the afternoon progressed boats came and went leaving odd gaps as they did I helped a large hire boat moor in front of us as there was only one guy on the ropes and we pulled it near to Braveheart and tied it up Subsequently the bloke moored behind us came walking along with his good lady and said he was leaving in half an hour , if we wanted to pull back a bit When he eventually got away ,after we nattered for an hour, we went to the end spot (always my fave place ) and settled down for the evening this left one space around 40 foot long for a boat but a few had a look then veered off So I think both ways of looking at it can be correct its just about common sense Saying that double mooring is and no no for us , unless it was a friend and the two boats were suitably matched On the other hand on Fri morning at Irstead we saw a guy in a large bathtub (a private one ) attempting to moor in front of a Hampton at the electric post end of the Staithe The people on the Hampton very generously moved back and he finally got in saying his batteries were flat ! But really it was a fairly silly thing to attempt or expect a positive response to , so goes to show some folks are helpful far beyond what could be expected !
  5. Oops, where is that pesky mod whenyou need him ?
  6. Those spiders, there's none around here? Since reading this Lorna has suddenly stopped killing arachnids!!!
  7. Yes undoubtedly its about boozing and getting peace from the other half But if I loved my favourite sport plus the two major incidental advantages already mentioned, I would be overcome with joy and happiness this time Yet all through the season all I see are folk that appear to be having really awful times I am a genuine seeker of enlightenment here not having a go
  8. And why do so few hire boats have a centre cleat , this would save newbies from spinning around when mooring with the current instead of against I bet everyone has done it once or came close
  9. Was that a "quick one off the wrist", Iain ?
  10. Ian surely you must see how wine and boats must go together ? For us the two are inseparable lol
  11. I agree with many points made here , but is a bridge marker not self explanatory? Ditto the plate that tells you the boats airdraught, which term was always explained to me at Richos very carefully . I do know from speaking to a guy who did handovers for years , that he could always tell those that were interested and those who were not. I love the ones who arrive at the bridge having a major domestic on board , usually a guy who sits there like a buffoon drifting , unable to make a choice , but never willing to relinquish the helm to his good lady - these are the ones I was told never listen at handover - cos they already know it all.....
  12. Oh dear one of the worst slip ups to make is to call her "Broads Ambition" Griff has been known to keelhaul the miscreant !!!!!!!!!!!
  13. When you have people arriving at Ludham Bridge and shouting "will we get under mate?" , you have to ask a few questions about them The really amazing ones are those charmed few who get to the bridge and ask "the" question, and when I have replied how high is your boat , they cant say ....... Even more mind boggling are the couple of helmspersons (note the PC ) who when told of the magical properties of the bridge height marker , just said "oh is that what that is , how do you read it?" More so since one had come from Brundall apparently having negotiated all bridges by pure chance !!!!!!!!!!! The other thing is that the very name Ludham Bridge should be a clue as to the nature of the obstacle , yet lots of folk still arrive unprepared in any way whatsoever And its not only hire boats who lose bits there , especially tv arials You cant allow for idiocy.....
  14. Ian is somewhat mifffed to be in less temperate climes such as are the norm in sunny Scotland. Was. Gonna post him apic for him but my lack of IT. Skills scuppered it lol
  15. We have been sitting at Burgh Castle since the thunderstorms late this morning, drinking beer and wine as it has got steadily hotter all afternoon It now showing 24 degrees (25 earlier)
  16. True Ian, and I know she's old (she tells us about 6 times a day lol) Just seems nothing pleases her much The classic was " we have had lunch in three pubs, but I don't do big lunches and prefer to eat at 17.50!!!!" This after she ignores the lighter options and orders huge portions which she can't eat!!!! Just shoot us now please
  17. Well not sure about kids on boats, but mother-in-laws on boats can be very trying lol Have had the old dear on board for a week and Lorna's wine consumption has gone viral! Getting her to wear a life jacket is a constant battle of wills - it interferes with her clothes !!!!! She can't sleep if it's windy and makes us feel guilty if it rains!!!! Says she prefers to be outside but moans when we go a walk We decided a walk from Beccles YS to Geldeston and back would help her sleep but no, she had he "worst sleep of the week" So moored up and filling her with wine - that will shut her up
  18. Do not listen to Gracie, just add wine and sing! We are also good singers and will join in! It's only idiots Imoan about ,wine and fun is cool!
  19. Anyone heading for Rockland Staithe today, beware the water is extremely low just now, our depth sounder showing "out" or unreliable reading We were stirring up the bottom a lot Anyone stern mooring should be aware of the great likelihood of grounding your sterngear unless mooring at the pub side I assume it will be the same later today
  20. Ian , I have to confess to being a whiskey and haggis despising Scotsman
  21. The humour just gets worse here Come back Griff all is forgiven
  22. Pauline tell me its not that guy with the pink headgear ?????????????
  23. No problem Alan teach me to get it right ! I think I was just referring to those with fancy boats , that make them miserable lol☺
  24. Seems the Broads dont do it for everyone, never saw such a miserable shower as I saw this morning What does a smile or a wave returned cost?
