  1. I am truly contrite Gracie , but my foul outburst was tempered by a wave after disaster was averted Perhaps you could do some flyers with such emergency routines as you find work for you and ask Clive to hand them out at boat handovers Seriously though the fact the guy acknowledged his error made all the difference and made it something to laugh about later rather than something to send me ballistic☺
  2. Had A foretaste last weekend at Horning , a guy in a big hire boat broke up the cofusion of rags and sticks nicely (very correctly as he gave way when required ) Just as we thought calm had returned he turned towards the quay at the Island , made as if to moor , then 180 turn to almost ram us bow to bow! Much reversing , thrusting from both ends ! and some of my vilest bad language (one field I am an acknowledged expert in)averted disaster Obviously the poor guys wits had been fried by the sailie onslaught lol
  3. Well I am now totally lost Probably for the best anyway ,airing dirty washing in public has happened often enough in "another place" - it is not very edifying
  4. It might be a buffet style breakfast but the Wherry version is to die for IMHO Well worth the money
  5. :welcome:Welcome Ray ,as you can see lots of us idiots here already
  6. Jason had stopped doing boat hire around the end of last season , and to the best of my knowledge only one weekend sized boat remains at the yard along with several dayboats The only sure way to find out if anything is available is give Jason or George a call
  7. I must admit to thinking "what a great idea " at first , but upon reflection ,and having actually spoke to Robin on a similar sort of matter , I believe he puts great value on his independence and ability to call it like it is So maybe not upon reflection No doubt the man himself will have some thoughts on such matters ...
  8. I think like many have said already , its easy to say you should have did .................... But these things never happen to a training plan , so you did the best you could , and as it turns out you have been proven correct as you are unhurt and the boat still floats
  9. :blush:He was trying to hang the rags from the quant pole last week !
  10. Tis sadly true , how are the mighty fallen Once a champion of shiny red weapons of mass propulsion , now he stands looking out fondly over a pile of old sticks He dreams of silently cruising Barton broad , even God forbid ,a bit of tacking ! Its only a matter of time until he bans all us stinky types completely . This new mode of transport of his has become his obsession and often he mutters about Bluebelle needing a bit of tlc But this once stalwart of manly propulsion has a far darker secret for the wooden wonder was once called " Gay Lady " :taunt: Sorry J lol
  11. Its not the first time I have saw folk in the boatyard after hours , having a fill up on the fly - from a hose that's used only to flush out black water tanks - Yuk !
  12. There is such a thing as common sense ( which is il named in the extreme) and it tells anyone that ,what is happening there was a really stupid idea ! Imagine any part of a person getting between those two boats ...........
  13. To be honest ,Breydon was not bad until Breydon Bridge ,where the swell was a bit worse It was between Gt Yarmouth and Points North the real fun began due to heavy gusts of wind No one on board had a curry the night before so that was ruled out ! We hardly notice the waves unless really bad ( Breydon would no doubt be closed by then anyway ) ,but the superstructure being high at the stern does make for some fun in high winds !
  14. Give us a shout next time ☺ I think we saw Moonlight Shadow when moored at Worlingham last season in June I think, was that you on board then?
  15. Thanks Alan I was just digging a hole,trying to do so☺
  16. Well that last was a poor effort at quote and reply but I can't fix it !
  17. I thought you meant Ian Sueh, but since we were lurking in that spot I guess you mean us What boat were you on then I remember "Last Chance , Moonlight Shadow and Firefly plus one other concorde I think
  18. Hi Ian we never saw you as it was very "interesting" with such winds I assume it was us you saw as there were a fair few hire boats there doing stuff really close to us also Now back at Lbby till we return next sat ☺
  19. Yes a bit windy this morning at Reedham , but worse at Yarmouth We too inspected The Lord Nelson and it was not looking like much progress has been made
  20. Have come across from South side in last few hours, and was extremely gusty But wind has now strengthened and we are showing gusts of 35-40 knots between Yarmouth and Stracey Arms So take care today all ☺☺
  21. That's not so good Ian hope you are ok
  22. Andy many actually are lagged in insulating foam and our new one is often still very warm in the morning I could not have said that of the old one , it was too small and poorly insulated
  23. Well loads of different opinions and views on the subject Probably most having a fair degree of validity As I said at the start , its not a crime against humanity or likely to cause WW3 (unless ol' Vald Putins on the river!) The one thing that has become apparent here is this forum is generally much more friendly and different opinions don't seem to degenerate into slanging matches- and all with no need for moderation !-amazing what happens when adults are treated as such ! Long may it be so ☺☺☺
  24. I have no wish or need to look at any byelaws , since my general stance (previously stated) ,is to err on the side of caution and give way to other vessels competently helmed or not , sail power or quont driven I will not stand by and wait for a collision and damage caused by negligence or allow someone to damage that which has cost me (like many others )thousands of pounds . If I was to drive my van down the side of someones car would they not be entitled to glower☺
