  1. I can't say I have ever really been taken by Motorbikes Probably because you have never tried a 'Proper' bike? Need to get you astride the Tiger as a pillion one of these days to experience it Griff
  2. When Did People Become Scared? Didn't know they generally had! When did that happen then? Is it compulsory or optional? Is it seasonal? Griff
  3. Wroxham bridge is often do-able at 7ft PHB? Maybe just maybe on a wing and a prayer once a year, then you would have to be extremely lucky and not get back! Griff
  4. But who remembers The Chequers, or where it was ..... Obviously none of us lot in here remember it. I have seen paintings of The Chequers though at St Bennets Abbey My favourite from pubs now lost was the Bridge at Potter Heigham - Happy memories of numerous lock-ins there. Oh and btw the Barton 'Anglia' was actually called the Barton Angler - nice name for a pub, visited it many times Griff
  5. Martin - shall I pick one up for you? Griff
  6. £190.00 administration fee Do you mean £19:00 and not £190:00? I hope so because £190:00 - Chuffin 'eck - That's excessive innit? I don't think I have ever had to pay any sort of admin fee with regards to motor insurance Griff
  7. Actually had a rare day off today but will pay it back by working Saturday - again, we attended a funeral. Which meant I had time late afternoon to do a bit of running around catching up, it also meant I had time on the new mast too. So after applying 5 x coats of Ravilakk reducing the amount of turps percentage every coat, I de-nibbed for the last time, herewith prior to the hoovering off and white spirit wipe down Griff
  8. That’s Kathleen service completed. Now having a catch up at her wake as one does. Clive is doing very well, a credit to his whole huge family. Much respect to him Griff
  9. Ah yes - but it is definitely not a shakeproof washer - I know what they are / look like. This one only had about 6 teeth in total all the way round and each tooth was very sharp and about 5mm in from base to top The biscuit tin metal is a good idea and yes of course I will fit a shakeproof washer between nut and metal for the conductivity to make good. Thanks for the advice / help you guys Griff
  10. It begins with the fact you are literally part of the entire experience of travel. but with much improved all round vision - this means you are much more aware of everything and everyone around you, you are in both feel and the literal sense more vulnerable. Other road users giving a quick glance will not see you (happened a few times today) and I found now it is best to run with the dipped beam on to give me a bit more of a chance. You also hear everything, from the roar of tyres to the way straps holding loads on low loader lorries cause such a racket in the wind. Going through a tunnel on the M25 was a real hit for the sense as the noise was all around and incredible. Then there is the smell, I am not just talking about the odd exhaust, but the distinct smell of hot rubber as you pass a laden HGV, to the different scents from different parts of the country - all this, everything you miss in any other car even with the windows down. The other intoxicating thing about this car is the exhaust note - deep and low initially, then gets a bit more raw as the revs rise. The car itself however makes you work. Twisting the go handle brings a new smile to my face. Although the car is no slouch, and has no Turbo, above 4,000RPM it really 'takes off' and as you just can't help yourself and relish every slow down, so you can get on the loud pedal even if for a couple of blissful seconds for the lovely note of the exhaust. The above is just barely starting to scratch the surface of why us Bikers are addicted to riding powerful bikes, But your description does make a stab at it. Magnify it ten fold, then add in adrenalin on tap, add in grin factor, add in blisteringly impressive acceleration, (Most 'Big' bikes don't bother with a 0-60mph time we go for 0-100mph) top speed, braking, G force experience, getting your knee down (Or very close) catching the foot pegs, Reverse gyro steering effect, tipping it in and a whole lot more and you are getting close, even though my description is not doing it justice. And I've not even mentioned those leather clad pillion lovelies !! Griff
  11. The aerial isn't going on top of the mast. We did briefly consider this but are trying to keep the mast clean and minimalistic. Plus it would add to the airdraft height. The previous aerial went on the frame of the first Solar panel on the aft coach house roof. The current ones are the bendy flat mounted type. So we have elected to put it on the fwd coach house roof, behind the Powells pennant mast so it will not impede vision. A mate who has an impressive workshop and restores classic motorbikes was given the task of coming up with a solution which he has done impressively. The coach house roof including the hardwood dressing pad for the Spotlight is about 25mm thick so the fitting needs to be longer than that with a facility to earth it back to the dab. The silver toothed washer was removed and discarded. The brass nut then had a sleeve braised to the bottom of it, the sleeve was then threaded on the outside. A steel tube was then threaded on the inside that matched the brass sleeve. A round plate was then braised to the bottom of the steel tube with a brass nut braised to the bottom of that. Following this? The round plate has an earth connection on it. So during fitting I can simply cut down the steel tube with a hacksaw to the correct length and / or fit a pad underneath the coach house roof. The really awkward bit will be running the cables back to the dab above the deck head lining as we need to go behind the deck head in the shower compartment - That'll be a right royal pain will that. Still tis just another item to attend to during the forthcoming AMP Griff
  12. I hear on the jungle drums that the cafe / shop behind the pub at Stokesby has closed for good. The shop is to become a holiday let apparently. That's a huge loss for boat users, it was always a handy shop and the FCE's were always looked forward to. I'll miss it Griff
  13. Cracking piece of tupperware you have got yersens there. Very Swish - Enjoy Griff
  14. It’s just round corner from me too. I’m at Marina view Griff
  15. I’m working in Thorne today. Thorne has an Aldi. One new Wirkzone pressure washer now in back of t van. At least three years of operation for £80. We’ll see. Tks for rorumites advice once again Griff
  16. Back to the new dab unit recently installed that is in need of a suitable aerial. We trialled a few dab aerials, non of them with much success. Robin finished up ordering a vehicle type dab / Fm aerial combined. It can receive the digital signal along with the FM signal in the same unit. Now vehicles manage quite nicely with this unit at speeds up to 70mph (Maybe a tad faster on a circuit of course) covering a large area in a short space of time so it should manage quite nicely onboard at an average of 5mph. This aerial has two cables running from it and one to it into a small PCB in the base. The pair coming from the aerial are the dab and Fm signal carriers, the third one is a power cable to the pcb There is a silver 'Washer' that has small sharp teeth on it designed to cut through the paintwork therefore making an earth connection to complete the powered up circuit to the pcb with vehicles being 12v earth return through the bodywork etc etc. Snag - can't manage that on a timber boat can we? Also the threaded fitting is nowhere near long enough to go through the fwd coach house roof to be able to tighten down on the brass nut Griff
  17. Fair point. A popular and often true statement but at £80 that cheapo unit from Aldi comes with a THREE year guarantee all for £80:00. As has been stated, it won't get used that often either. During the summer time maybe once a month, but at least once a week when the game shooting season is in full swing Decisions, Decisions Griff
  18. I seriously need to ask this question as this has been bugging me. How does one acquire purple towels????? And you're asking me?? Finished a bit earlier today so was able to go through the process once again and apply coat five. Just one more to go now. Apply the Brava varnish - full strength Griff
  19. A mate local here is saying a Karcher K4 ? Griff
  20. I need to replace our 240v jet / power washer Any recommendations? Thanks Griff
  21. There’s a thread called ‘Anyone afloat this weekend’ which lets others know if the poster so wishes A calendar with dates could be set up in the members section I would surmise. You’d have to ask those scurrilous admin types Griff
  22. Well, how else was as supposed to respond? I want to get it finished as soon as I can, it's getting in the way. Once I have finished the varnishing I can fit the hardware for the flags then it's off to Bro' for light / plug fitting. It's the de-nibbing that is the real pain, it takes an age and is proper awkward, applying the varnish is however somewhat of a joy. Hopefully after completion of my work day today (Yes, having to put in a shift on a Sunday, no day off this week for me) I will get the last Ravilakk coat applied Griff
  23. Friday - Gas Safe Plumber serviced the boiler - £60:00 all in and reported all to the good. This Saturday evening - Pressure maintained constant since Thursday morning, reliability back to normal. Jobs a gudden Griff
  24. Coat No 4 applied, 1 x more Ravilakk then final coat - Brava to go Griff
