  1. ‘Garfield’ Dyke? New one on me! Griff
  2. What you doing on one of those wooden things Peter, you could be on a nice blingy thing for that money. Slowly biodegrading Brilliant response - Well done Griff
  3. I'm kinda agreeing with you. However it should be a level / same palying field for all and it obviously isn't As for a problem, I don't see it as a bona fide problem as of yet - More of an annoyance Griff
  4. I’m not in a position right now to find the original photo’s of Star Supreme 1 circa 1966 as they are on my home Pc and I’m in Winchester for the weekend. The previous owners to us put the ref numbers along with the ‘Ivy Lady’ name where you see them in Paladin photo. I researched early photo’s and put the numbers where Jack put them originally. If head put them on the hull near to the name, then so would I have done. Griff
  5. Some of the tractors up here are magic. I was following one - it turned into a field Griff
  6. We all seem to have a degree of uniformity on our number plates on cars/bikes without a great deal of fuss, don't we? Or perhaps that is my imagination? Jack Powels all had uniformity too on the Star Supreme class, maybe other classes too no doubt. We all seemed to manage with the location of the reg numbers just fine. Port Commissioners were fine too. Fifty three years of no issue until the Ba decided to go off on one Seems to me that Tampax Towers have nowt better to do. I'm sure the Rangers have however Griff
  7. My MrsG 'Dragged' me along to see 'Take That' at Manchster arena (Just a couple of days before lowlifes did their thing) I have to say I was nonplussed about seeing them but - WOW what a show, thoroughly enjoyed seeing them. Over the past few years we have seen Rod Stewart, Elton John, Take That, Meat Loaf and a few more BUT The best by a country mile and then some with the live performance was Jeff Lynnes Electric Light Orchestra. Outta this world and then some. Must make the effort to see them again Griff
  8. I have considered this. Maybe temporary ones stuck on a card, the card then held on with Blue Tak - Just for inspection purposes only of course. They can issue me with as many contravention notices as they like! Griff
  9. Virus? - Away wi ye. seventeen days it had hold of me, now free at last Big weekend for us starting today. Drive to near Peterborough, meet up with a couple of friends then down to Winchester for the weekend. About 40 odd of us for a reunion for ex forces personnel / partners that served in Norway 87 - 90. (Kolsas - HQ AFNORTH to be precise) Most of whom we have not seen for some thirty odd years. It's gonna be great and I can foresee a delicate napper being present on Sunday morning. Griff
  10. Another flying visit. Me Howard and Robin onboard 2100 - 2315 (now driving home) mast, deck heads, alarm system, wiring all completed. Griff
  11. I have picked up ‘B.A’s notice of contravention this evening Griff
  12. You have a ticket confirming this Griff.... Good stuff, and thanks for letting me know although having just looked on the cameras I can't see it. 'B.A's reg numbers are highly visible even a ranger that has not been to specsavers couldn't miss them. Her numbers are on the cabin sides up fwd where they have been since 1966. They will still be there in 2066. Anyroadup, let battle commence My initial salvo will be to administer a damn good ignoring session Griff
  13. Well according to the regs I read, 'B.A's 'Bow' reg numbers are not compliant. However they are in the exact location that Jack Powels first put them on in 1966. That's fifty three years ok until now. I have no intention of changing that particular piece of history where our 'B.A' is concerned, not to mention the mess / scarring that would result thereof. I have much better things to waste my time on - I can see a a tantrum / hissy fit on its way Griff
  14. For the hard of hearing I think some sort of noxious smelling gas should also be pumped out. Oh, hang on..... Easy - Just replicate the smell from a power station that generates the charge for them Griff
  15. Well done Spurs. An all English final. At least this cup will 'Be Coming Home' Griff
  16. I've been back in touch with the brewery and sadly have had to inform them that 'B.A' now cannot take part due to circumstances beyond our control. There fore I won't now be needing the large forum flag. They have plenty of boats due to take part though, four motor cruisers, dinghies, sea going rowing boat just to name a few Griff
  17. So. it appears that the Ba rangers have free access to the wet-shed at Richo's now do they? That is supposed to be a secure area with the access code known to berth holders only. I wonder who let them in? Griff
  18. What a great day out that was. Left our place at 0530, got home by 2130. Eight of us up to the Whitfield country estate, clay shooting competition a 4 x gun team event. Breakfast en-route at the Moritz Arms off the A69, Dinner at the Ryther Arms near to Selby on t way home. 'My' team was/is 'Griffs Growlers' Our long term ambition is to beat our other team 'Bobs Boyz' We failed but this time by just the one clay target - that had em rattled. Each team had 690 clay targets to go at over the day (Some of em were midis too) Sixty five teams entered the fray on the day 'Griffs Growlers' came home in sixteenth place with a score of 585 and we could / should have shot better too. There is always next year. I used about 320 cartridges on the day, Eley Select Fibre 24G 7 -1/2 There was a team entered calling themselves 'Norfolk and Chance' (They came 29th) Next stop, Lambton Castle later on this month for more of the same, Griff
  19. Respect for the collection on behalf of the RNLI Re the boiler thing - Know exactly where you are coming from. We had boiler issues end of last year into the new year. Plumber kept letting me down so in the end, lost patience and did it mysen. Changed expansion tank and prv then had another plumber service it afterwards. Never been a problem since. Was proper chuffed to get it sorted, now of course don't even think about it and take it for granted as we do Griff
  20. I had a very sneaky visit onboard 'B.A' this week. Why sneaky? Well, I working for a customer near to Wisbeach. I don't normally travel afield to work, but these customers are also friends. I was booked in for two days, the Monday and Tuesday with me staying over on the Monday night. By Monday at 1900 I was finished, the whole lot done and buttoned up. I was then fed and watered. Now I had a choice. 1) Stay over with them and drive home in the morning 2) Drive home immediately - about 2 x Hrs 3) Drive down to Stalham as it was only 100 miles and approaching 2000 Decision made and I was onboard for around 2215. By 2300 I had the teak mast dressing pad plugs paired off, final sanding and 1st application of varnish on. Watched tv for a few minutes, then lights out. Come Tuesday, 2 x more coats of varnish on. The birds nest of cables behind the bonded store cabinet tidied up, the coax fished out back to under the helm position (Proper awkward) Coax connected to the booster, aerial socket fitted to side of helm - Heart in mouth whilst cutting the hole - Coax wired up between booster and new aerial socket. By 1500-ish I was on the road home, MrsG none the wiser but much achieved I didn't expect. A neighbour in the wetshed will finish off the varnishing in my absence which means me and Bro will do an evening visit one day next week to final mount mast, the two coach house roof fittings - fitted and wired up, deck head liner up with associated bits n pieces etc - Job done Griff
  21. We have recently completed our bi-annual AMP for 'B.A' (Assisted Maintenance Period). First time we have use Sutton Staithe Boatyard and their services for this regular event We arrived at their slipway on Friday morning 5th April as previously arranged. After a short delay, 'B.A' was safely on blocks / chocks inside their shed. Work commenced. They launched us on Mon 15th early afternoon as previously agreed. During our stay, we made use of the workshop / facilities on regular 12 x Hr days sometimes longer. We were aware that this is a working yard / business and wanted to keep any disruption down to a minimum. I would just like to state how impressed we were with Robert and his team. When we did have questions or requests or needed advice - Nothing was too much trouble for them. They treated us with a jovial manner and certainly made us feel welcome and not in the way at all. We assisted with the general customer enquiries and yard running as and when we had the opportunity to do so. I was impressed just how well organised they are. Craft turned up at allocated times, were out in a jiffy onto the hard standing, immediately pressure washed and acid cleaned if required, checked over anti-fouled and back in the water, sometimes on the same day! They carry out all manner of boat repairs / maintenance. They also offer pump out and diesel sales in the slipway along with day boats / canoes for hire. The slipway is also available for customers to launch their own craft too. So - I whole heartedly recommend Sutton Staithe Boatyard to anyone requiring work done on their boats. Our agreement was of course on a DIY basis. This facility is not normally available to owners especially inside the shed / workshop We had to seek special permission way in advance with insurance policy's to cover us in the workshop with written prior agreements for us to be able to use their facilities, third party liability and the like, it is not normally a service offered. Robert does offer outside hard-standing and is hoping to be able to offer in the future a tent affair. Would we use them again in two years? - Most definitely yes and I hope so. Griff
  22. Well to date, from the friends / peers I have conversed with there is a 100% failure rate of the on-line application of the 'New' style licenses. They cost nowt which is fine. Obtaining one at present seems to be impossible. If the situation doesn't improve fast then the songbird population will be in trouble. Expect to see a proliferation of Magpies and nowt much else Griff
