  1. Horning PC provide waste bins for boaters adjacent to the carpark but regularly they are filled by "locals" with everything from garden waste upwards!! You're not wrong there. The amount of 'Stuff' you see in those bins from households has to be seen to be believed Griff
  2. MalcolmH - My advice is to write to them just once stating the obvious, agree to a court date then take no further action no matter what they do with their pressure / dirty tricks I had an issue with a private car park over in Sheffield a couple of years ago now, I was getting lawyers letters and the like threatening to take me to court for non payment of 'Their Fine' Which on principle I was never going to pay.. The Lawyers turned out not to exist - it was a made up name / firm. They were just trying to frighten me into collecting money - Really? waste of time there then. The whole saga dragged on for about two years before they quietly went away with their tails between their legs. It never affected my credit rating or gave me any black marks with regards to finances that I could see. How you have been treated does not surprise me in the least where these type of car park vultures are concerned. I take it you have written to the hotel? what about dropping an email to the Horning parish council? I would bet the Horning local councillors /and business owners would be somewhat concerned to learn visitors are not returning / being put off. Oh and BTW - The power of Media is a real force. (And I'm on your side) Griff
  3. The thing is, knowing Robin as I do, just stepping onboard with a camera and doing a walk through video doesn't really do it. He needs to be onboard for at least a couple of nights using the boat as it was designed for so he can get a real 'feel' of their foibles, good points / bad points and the like. Then he can produce his proper Capt's Blog on any given boat. Hope this helps, Griff
  4. And do it quick before they lugger off somewhere! Sigh, Now what part of the above did not compute? Griff
  5. Anyone got a spare £32,800 they could let me have? I purchased an extra lottery ticket as promised. Both of them performed as per the norm - Nowt - Sorry Griff
  6. Welcome to the NBN Joat. Do you know sommat? - I have never measured 'B.A's internal headroom - Fancy that eh? Must try and remember to do so - Unless I bank my head and forget of course Having said that I reckon you would manage easily onboard 'B.A' and I can get her through PHB - water levels allowing - a few times a year. A sister boat for 'B.A' is currently up for sale R644, 'Goodnight Irene'' a 40ft-er so plenty of boat there with room for guests. Tupperware hull with timber topsides, best of both worlds Griff
  7. James Knight is a district counsellor. South Norfolk Council have appointed him as a full member of the Broads Authority I bet his high and mightiness is spitting feathers Griff
  8. There hasn’t been any attack that I’ve seen, just an opinion Griff
  9. I didn’t even know there was an option to zoom in, let alone have a look in anyone’s property till it was posted in here. Now of course I can make sure I don’t Griff
  10. You really don’t know? Griff
  11. I can well believe it. Proper chuffed to see another price of Broads history restored Griff
  12. Just seen earlier this evening a short film clip on FB of Horsey windpump with a test on the sails turning under their own power for the first time in 76 years. It looked very smart and was nice to see. Despite searching on Youtube I can't find it there so unfortunately not able to provide a link of the film clip - Sorry More information here:- https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/horsey-windpump Griff
  13. I have 'Liked' the progress and photo's. Of course that does not mean I have 'Liked' the bandaged finger Griff
  14. Reedham Bridge not operational ? During the season again? There’s a surprise then! Griff
  15. A snippet taken from the above link:- Dilham mill originally stood across the river Ant but the river was diverted to form the North Walsham & Dilham Canal, which was completed in 1826. There is little doubt that prior to the canal being built the mill was effectively at the head of the historically navigable River Ant and was served by wherries accessing up the tail stream. This section of the Ant was, and still is to some extent, subject to tidal influence giving the right of free navigation, but the canal company could well have expected the right to charge craft using its much more direct channel up to the mill. This, however, the company was specifically prevented from doing by a special clause in the Act preserving the right of free navigation up to the mill. Despite this, it would appear that when Honing Lock was constructed fairly close to the site of the mill, steps were taken to construct a dam near the mill to create what was known as Dilham Broad or Dilham Lake and an entrance to this broad was created from the canal upstream of Honing Lock. Thereafter wherry access to the mill appears to have been southwards across the broad to the mill head and the former access via the mill tail seems to have fallen into disuse. Alan Faulkner - 16th April 2003 At one time the mill dam covered 25 acres and it is said that the cause was an accidental breach of the river bank in 1868. The story goes that this was the time of a disastrous drought and when a local farmer attempted to dig a tunnel to gain water, the resulting inflow quickly got out of hand and resulted in the flooding of Dilham beds. The level of the mill dam has dropped and is now below the level of the old wheel sluice. Griff
  16. Chuffin Eck, Look at this lot! Did you even know of it's existence? I didn't. Lots to read up on in here Griff http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Watermills/dilham.html
  17. I've never seen the owners and not seen it move for a week or so I'll certainly ask them if I see them. Leave a note onboard with my contact details? And do it quick before they lugger off somewhere! Griff
  18. "The 1812 Act contains a special provision preventing the original canal company from charging any tolls or dues "For any Boat, Barge , or Vessel which shall be navigated or pass upon any part of the river Ant which at the Time of passing this Act is navigable to Dilham:" Now I'm just posting my opinion here not any facts or proper knowledge. That part of the act you have correctly quoted I'm assuming is still in force directed at the Old Canal Company. The section of the canal that Luke Patterson now owns is obviously not owned by the Old Canal Company it is owned by him so therefore does it apply to him? Also is not that act directed at just the section for what was the mill at Dilham not the whole canal for its full length? Graham should be able to shed some light on this one? -------------------------------------------------------------- From what I have learnt with my discussions with Graham, Luke didn't actually buy the canal. He bought the farm and farm land subsequently meaning he inherited that section of the canal and also inheriting the responsibility to maintain it as he sees fit or otherwise. Does he have a legal responsibility to maintain the canal to any sort of minimum standard? I don't know. What I do know is that to bring his section of the waterway up to a navigable standard clear of any trees or below water hazards is going to cost money & time - Lots of it What I assume is that Luke is on limited funds available to him - who isn't? He's running a business not a charity to enhance derelict waterways. So any work done on the canal itself has to be funded by him with no financial return on his outlay. The toll he asks for is voluntary not compulsory. The more £4's he receives in his honesty box, then the more £4's he can spend on the canal work. You can safely bet he will end up outlaying way more than the total of the £4's he receives - Rocket science it ain't! We, as NBN Forumites could collectively no doubt organise a work party and take it upon ourselves to assist with tree / fauna clearance between say Tonnage Bridge to Honing lock. BUT we would need Luke's permission and maybe Luke is independent and doesn't want to be held beholden to anyone and wants to do it himself when funds / time allows? I need to get the message over to him that we don't expect any favours in return but would like to and enjoy helping making a difference At some point I want to contact Luke and offer him our help, when I say 'Our' I just mean willing volunteers from the NBN not the whole membership of course. But first off I need to learn more about his section of the waterway and find out what sort of guy Luke is to give us the best chance of being able to assist and make a real impact for all waterway users to benefit and enjoy. Any thoughts / advice sent in my direction would be most welcome. Does anyone in here know the guy? Has anyone used his glamping / camping facilities? Over to you guys as per the norm, Griff
  19. My first road legal car was an Austin 1100 and I was as proud as punch with it. Even when the gearstick game right out of the floor with me waving it about like a wand on a journey down to the Broads with my Mum as a passenger! Still got there too but had to improvise somewhat. I changed the cylinder head to a 1300 gas flowed unit with a bigger carb - All that did was wear out the big ends / crank real fast. The interior was upgraded to that synthetic fur everywhere and I do mean everywhere. No excuse for this but we were talking the late 70's here. A blue sunstrip visor stuck on inside the top of the front screen proudly displayed with the words 'Him n Her' Well that's not quite true, it initially stated 'Him n Them' but my Mum put her foot down and I was ordered to change it There was more fog / spotlamps on the front of that car than there was bumper or grill to fasten them on. Had to upgrade the wiring / dynamo / battery to try and cope with it all not to mention a bank of relays and yards of cabling. The sound unit was upgraded too, radio cassette with some sort of amp. Wider tyres - Played havoc with the bearings upgraded engine played havoc with brake fade and fuel consumption, Synthetic fur played havoc with one night stands / girlfriends and the R/C did our eardrums no good at all. But to me and my mates / girlies, we had some great and memorable times with that car, camping weekends away, trips to the Broads, gawd only knows how we fitted in all the luggage / bodies. Steamy windows etc (Toooooo much information) - It was my Rolls / Canardly, that is to say rolled down hills and canardly get up em. It was nowhere near the best car I have ever had but certainly for my first - the most memorable Griff
  20. 'Old Woody' You sure? looks like a tupperware hull to me with timber topsides. I would also state that is a Bourne 40 hull, or in other words one of the original six Star Supreme class, but which one? I think you just may have stumbled across one of the 'Missing' sister boats of 'B.A' Pity there is no reg numbers on view, maybe the current owners know something of her history Griff
  21. Thanks, I'm a Trustee too of the NW&DCT Really? - Bargain, two for the price of one then Griff
