  1. It is my sad duty to inform the forum that Clive's wife Kathy passed away suddenly Friday afternoon 01st March. She suffered a massive heart attack. Died in the ambulance on her way to the hospital. Clive rang me Friday teatime to give me the sad news - It came as a big shock, Clive has been unwell on and off lately, I thought Kathy was the strong one I am of course sure Forumites will join me in offering our condolences to Clive and his family. I have offered Clive any assistance he may require Griff
  2. If My landline does become an 'Active' target number, for a while I will relish 'Dealing' with the scumbags, but then simply input ignore numbers etc. We are already signed up to the TPS which does help. Normally I just disconnect immediately but this time common devilment got the better of me. T'other week on my mobile phone I received for about the fifth time a call from a solicitors company stating the they could claim for an accident that I had suffered injury. I kept em going ages before becoming clear that my accident was breaking a finger nail at work. I have since blocked their number too Griff
  3. Tks, doubt it as the call came in on the landline not my iphone, but I will check all the same Griff
  4. Just had a pre recorded call from 'HMRC' (Really?) stating that there is a warrant out for my arrest due to non payment of tax and I should press one to talk to a case officer so I did, Foreign voice says hello Whom am I talking to . . . that was as far as he got before I transmitted some proper foul language, racist abuse, a fair few four letter words mixed in before finishing of with 'Your breath stinks' Funny how 'HMRC' have not rang me back eh? The fact that 'GriffTile's' tax affairs are all in order by 31st Jan as they are every year seems to have escaped them Griff
  5. The ‘Bond Bug’ ? my late Dads mate died in one Griff
  6. Welcome onboard Griff Edited to add I should be partaking in your avatar name this Sunday
  7. Jobs a Guddun. Plenty of brownie points for me. MrsG well pleased and consuming humble pie Griff
  8. Thiswan - that will work to some degree but you don't get the same purchase if a decent blow picks up. Swings and roundabouts Griff
  9. I always enjoyed his company. He was very good to us when we had 'B.A' in the Southgate shed. Rip in Roland - You will be missed Griff
  10. Hmmm, There is no real set difinitive. Depends where you are likely to mudweight and how much space you have on deck to store it safely. I will have our measurements at home but I think we have about 4 fathoms or 24ft. If we need more (Breydon etc) then we can cobble head rope and the like Hope this helps Griff
  11. I would tentatively suggest any normal mass produced car that has covered 350’000 miles would be akin to Triggers Brush! Griff
  12. Well that’s the thing ain’t it? Robin researchers and I generally get the job of fitting (with assistance) items are only fitted on the understanding I can operate them - which is a world away from understanding them The Dab is working fine to date, it can even make / receive phone calls - I don’t know how to use that facility and don’t want to either Griff
  13. Tyre Talk - I steer well clear of any budget tyres on MrsG's car or the 'GriffTile' van - I do think that tyres are just about the most important safety aid we have a choice over. I don't do much research on them though, just stick to what I know. However the Mighty Tiger - I keep my eye very closely on new tyre developments as they come to the market and they do, very often from many manufacturers throughout the year. I'm very particular with the tyre choice on the Tiger bordering on OCD territory. It will have something to do with the fact the Tiger has just the two of em and in this country it tends to rain now and again. I can get through a new back tyre every year if I'm riding it correctly ! Ford - Fixed Often Repaired Daily Lotus - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious My favourite car manufacturer seems to be Ford by the number of various marques we have owned. My ultimate car to own would be a Lotus Esprite twin turbo V8 and I have never even been inside one! Griff
  14. Scaniaman - ps can the right honourable member for Donny not do the brakes(use grease not grout) I will have you know that when I left the RN in 2000, one of the resettlement courses I did was run by the AA. Yes it was a car mechanics course, about thirty of us on it. I was the only RN person on the course. I was also the only person that came top of the course and was subsequently offered a job by the AA running out of Sheffield, after some consideration I declined their kind offer. I used to be well clued up with car / bike mechanics. However over the last 19 years it has massively slipped, I've not kept pace with the modern tech and don't regret it or miss it one iota either. The only hands on I do nowadays is 'B.A's Beta, my Mighty Tiger and simple stuff on the 'GriffTile' van or MrsG's car. The rest is left to the garage we use. Griff
  15. MM - We have recently installed a new 'Car Type' DAB / CDplayer onboard 'B.A' fully up to date with the connectivity thing too. (See the 'B.A' TLC thread) Robin is the research specialist behind this latest upgrade. Just gotta sort out the aerial and power booster which hopefully with be completed during our next maintenance visit Griff
  16. Whew, I was getting somewhat concerned there we had enjoyed an only too brief visit from theesen. Glad you are well and back with us Griff
  17. Grendel - The older you get, the luckier you get! Griff (P.S - Well done old chap)
  18. I don't really care much if I don't have or can't get a phone signal when afloat - But - My new customers do. If a client rings me wanting an estimate and can't get hold of me they are immediately ringing someone else, unless of course I've been recommended (Normally the case) in which case they'll leave a message or try again. So being self employed I'd prefer to have a phone signal if at all possible. This is the 21st Century after all, so I do kinda like having 4G and a tv signal too for that matter. Yes I realise I am now probably not a true traditionalist or a purist for stating that lot above, but I remember the 60's being afloat onwards, and I enjoyed them very much. But we move with the times folks like it or not. I am tbh quite enjoying it. What it means for me is more choice available, whether or not to use that tech and that choice is just that - my choice, it's nice to have the choice. Not for everyone I admit but how many of those traditionalists are still using gas lamps, through hull toilets, gas pad heating that produce massive amounts of condensation, petrol engines with separate throttle and gear sticks etc etc - Thought not! Griff
  19. ‘Our House’ ( Madness) is also fully LED including outside. Still need to convert the garage and loft though Griff
  20. Glad you’re ‘onboard’ with this at last. We converted ‘B.A’ over entirely to LED a while ago now, primarily to save using wigglies from the batteries. It works a treat. Now just need to find a LED immersion element for the hot water. Failing that super conductivity cables. The latest upgraded Solo Panals we have easily take care of the fridge with amps to spare Griff
  21. Plus we were on shore power full tank of hot water, immersion on, hair dryer that would get a dinghy moving! i just gave them the Fwd of ‘B.A’ instructed one of them how to operate the shower / pump etc, shut the companion way doors and left them to it Griff
  22. They didn’t have enough hot water, no shore power and a tiny hair dryer. I didn’t really like the idea of them running their boats engine for an age. Plus MrsG was onboard so all to the good Griff
  23. We often double moor or raft and I have no issues with it. In fact it’s often a bonus making new friends. Stern mooring results in double mooring too and most are ok at accepting that. We once had the pleasure of six ladies next door to us using ‘B.A’s shower, hair dryer etc, it was a pleasure to be of assistance. (Not sure MrsG saw it that way) As for the old chestnut of being stuck inboard if you want to sail first, well you ain’t stuck at all. There’s a simple evolution for getting out, the wind / tide in normal circumstances are your friends to be utilised, with a well briefed crew it’s a breeze even if no one is onboard the outside vessel. Yes, somewhat more difficult if solo crewing - then use bankside and other boaters help Griff
  24. Gets worse. Lady of house has gone out for a couple of hours so I’m home alone. No issue with that, but still not allowed radio in as it will ‘dirty’ their house! Really? They must have had a hell of a spring / deep clean when they moved in Griff
  25. From this morning at 0800 and the next two days then two more down the diary I’m working in a Plymouth Brethren house. Great, no radio / news / pop master. Can’t begin to say how chuffed I am Griff
