  1. I knew Steve would know the best fridge solution, from a history of important sausage storage.
  2. A word on the collective reasoning behind our reticence to allow, complaints on here and particularly from anonymous first time posters. We are not saying this applies to anybody in particular or indeed anybody at all but the anonymity of a forum persona and indeed the whole ether is a shield behind which anybody who has an overblown complaint or even an axe to grind, disgruntled ex employee et al can hide behind and vilify a hard working business that has slipped a little in their usual standard, possibly to the extent that it costs them business and revenue and that is wrong on many levels. Agreed a business that regularly provides service below a value for money level deserves not to thrive and they rarely do. Just look at the horror stories on Trip Advisor where a business has been complained about by one or two individuals to unjustified levels and this has caused the recipients of what can only be called abuse real problems. As I always say to my customers, If you are happy then tell your friends, if not then tell me as I'm the only one who can rectify your concerns.
  3. Trevor & Gordon are exactly right, that is indeed our policy, there are two sides (at least ) to every story. The OP is asking for a recommendation for a good reliable yard and we can all name at least one, so rather than dwelling on the bad experience let's try to restore his faith in the area and it's businesses.
  4. PL259 is industry standard for marine VHF, AIS etc, though of course any 50Ω one will do the job, just every marine VHF I've ever seen is so equipped and there's little point in changing the chassis recepticle for personal preference. You may want to try a bit of Baco Foil (other aluminium foil is available) as a shield as a get around Mark, I must have been asleep or off somewhere, either that or early onset.
  5. Oh bugger, RFI can be a most difficult thing to diagnose, especially remotely (basics apart) but I'll start digging myself a hole. Are all the data cables that run close twisted pair shielded (or at least twisted pair) Mark and are they grounded ? I include NMEA 0183 in that as I assume all seatalk cables are proprietry Raymarine sourced ones, is your radar switched on standby? what happens to your handheld if you poke it around the suspect area? does this happen in one general location or wherever you happen to be and finally where is your mobile whilst all this is happening? Start by simply switching or disconnecting individual instruments in turn. Try disconnecting the PL259 at the set and see what happens, then connect your emergency antenna (you do of course have one ) and wave it around suspect areas in an attempt to isolate the source, try another independant power source as it may be that, though the symptoms do suggest radiated RFI rather than conducted RFI. Finally if you do replace the PL259 get a crimped one, in my view (and that of ABYC, NMEA et all) is that solder has no place in a marine environment, certainly long term. Good to see you made it to Shotley finally by the way.
  6. Indeed, the whole water based tally is commendable as is the humility of the winners, it really is time we replaced the current "celebrities" with people like this as role models for our youngsters.
  7. I do, If you read the thread you would see that Lee at no time claims anything else, your post only serves to detract from his efforts and dampen his enthusiasm, furthermore all the photographs were taken by Lee and are therefore his to do with as he pleases.
  8. As nobody else has come forward I will reluctantly agree to take on the task Carol.
  9. I'm always loath to argue with a "pro" but you are off the mark with the Shogun towing capacity, it is 3.5 tonnes braked capacity which is the most one can tow anyway, only reason I am certain is that I have just done the numbers as we are in the process of replacing our current car with one. Perhaps the older models are not but new ones certainly are, even automatic.
  10. Not at all, we have friends in their eighties still making sea passages (mind you they are a bit mad ) you will enjoy it I'm quite sure, welcome to the forum by the way.
  11. Might be Ipswich wet dock lock Jonny, the only place we've been with a lock this holiday.
  12. Wise words Carol, best wait until we hear from the horse's mouth that all is safe.
  13. As Carol suggested and Jill made clear we are always happy to accommodate updates when other similar sites are having issues, not to do so would be churlish in the extreme. However, denigration of other sites is not permitted here and any such posts will be removed or edited, as will any posts promoting or providing links to them.
  14. Crowd pleaser Rod, nothing more.
  15. Personal service, tailored to your circumstances, a mark of a good business.
  16. I just bung mine on the inside of the windows as far forward as possible, never had it questioned, in fact last time IIRC I just left them on the table.
  17. I would imagine the strops would guide you in straight Alan, slowly up to the snubbing post and Bob's yer Auntie's uncle.
  18. Not so sure about that, seems OK to me Grant, the trailer was supporting the boat better than the strops alone would have done so less chance of hull stress, there were bunks on the trailer, not rollers so it wasn't going to come off untill it was afloat.
  19. My brother used to fly fish for pike and Perch on the Broads with some success.
  20. We're all ready for some, let's hope your man is right Perry.
  21. Not really an indulgence Barry but a sensible idea, and indeed will make things simpler, you can make your own one from modules available in the Blue Seas range for both AC & DC without having to go as far as a bespoke unit, when completed they look and are a very professional job, just calculate the wattage of each load and from there it is fairly easy to calculate cable sizes etc. Do a diagram and label each cable at both ends with its function for easy fault fnding down the line. Proper crimp terminals are the way to go, not those horrid red / blue / yellow automotive things as uninsulated tinned copper ones combined with adhesive lined heat shrink and PVC slip over insulators will ensure a lasting reliable install at verry little extra cost, it just takes a bit longer.
  22. Welcome to the forum, there is a leaflet downloadable from he BA website that lists all the BA ones and I have provided a link to it below, there are a few other private shorepower facilities too and I'm sure somebody will be along soon with suggestions. The Bridge at Acle which might be a good first stop off is just one. http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/facilities-and-access/electric-charging-points.html
