  1. Maybe if everybody does the same as you it might give them a bit of a boost Dave. I don't think they actually manufacture much anyway, most stuff being made and badged for them so the manufacturers will hopefuly still be around if this doesn't hit them too hard.
  2. Navimo group own Lofrans & XM too, and a few other brands so I hope something rises from the ashes or the Liquidation practicioners can salvage something from the whole thing.
  3. It was the ability and attitude they were looking for rather than experience or qualifications Mark.
  4. One of the biggest chandlery suppliers, it may create quite a vacuum. http://www.boatingbusiness.com/news101/plastimo-insolvency
  5. More of a rigorous "interview" and handling test by a certified USCG captain, not interested in RYA stuff at all Mark. (Also had a concealed weapons permit so we listened quite attentatively )
  6. You could try to buy FAME free where possible John it is available at some riverside pumps, Marine 16 is as good a biocide treatment as any as is Grotmar (despite the name), it is odd that some people seem to go through life without ever getting a sniff of it whilst others seem to get recurring instances. Soltron is sworn by among many of it's users but it is best used as a preventitive as being an enzyme treatment rather than a biocide it will not easily deal with the bug as well or as quickly as a biocide if it is already present to the extent it bcomes noticable on your primary filters.
  7. Fabulous area Dave, I spent some time there during my time on Fishing News, really grandiose scenery.
  8. Welcome and hope you find the forum useful and entertaining.
  9. Fascinating modification beautifuly executed Paul, I wonder how long it will take before there's nothing left of the origonal.
  10. As you say Barry, a long way, the reason it interests me so much is that it's being done in one of the boats on our short list for the replacement of Kingfisher, a test like that tells a great deal.
  11. We just got the card conversion Perry, it came to £125 + change for the fifty gallon top up, very cheap (unlike the overnight mooring fees )
  12. http://www.thegreatestloop.com/ Having done just a small part of it this is going to be very interesting for me and I hope some others too.
  13. Did this come from a consultancy offering to help you with making your site compliant (at a price) Carol?
  14. I doubt I would had I been woken in a start at 03:00, still at least with O/D you have a better chance of clearing it, just not when one is drifting down to a low bridge at 1.5kts.
  15. Plenty of room in the Lazarette John, even with the outboard, beer and loads of other stuff(I wouldn't sacrifice the beer space) it's 9' 6" X 3' 9" so there will be room left for a liferaft too if it wasn't already mounted in the loft, all that said it's for work really. It's often a long walk around pontoons or a canal bank.
  16. I think you and indeed any boat owner will agree Trevor, stuff goes wrong even on a well maintained boat, sometimes a series of related or unrelated faults, it just happens but can be exasperating. With a hire boat or something related to service that has been provided on your own boat however it is the response, willingness and attitude shown by the hiring company that is important and in this case that does not seem to be wanting, I for one would see that as good publicity as it would increase my confidence in that service provider and make me more rather than less likely to use them, boat, car, equipment, service, whatever product really.
  17. I am ashamed to say I couldn't resist James, but it is for proffesional use so tax deductable, and I really needed something like it. still hurt a bit though.
  18. I always dropped my anchor if I suspected anything like this may happen, I know a mudweight on 12' of baler twine is unlikely to be effective on the rivers but it can't hurt. Maybe if these people were made to do a seasons night watch at the YS with serious penalties if anything went unreported it may serve to both educate and punish them at the same time and provide some security for boaters. This kind of thing has happened for decades and no constructive solution has been found yet.
  19. Hope everybody has as geat a time (and a drier time) as last year John.
  20. Actions like this put lives in real danger, I hope if they are caught that an appropriate charge considering that is considered and not just an obvious one.
  21. Or a bit over the top? http://www.peliproducts.co.uk/media/0450.html
  22. It has been closed for some time now I'm afraid, unless recently reopened in which case somebody with more up to date knowlege will correct that I'm sure.
  23. We will of course discuss your request to be banned Geoff, but as the outburst was completely out of charachter I doubt, but can not promise that a ban will be the outcome. I will however say now that the pointless continuation of this is considered damaging to the forum and I do ask that you all just let it lie, you will change nothing by it's continuance I promise you that..
  24. As you say Strowie, it's all been answered already, the words dog and bone spring to mind, but one final time (and I mean final) we will not be drawn.
