  1. Oops, just noticed Ian has already answered that! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. The Propex works exactly the same way as a Webasto etc in that the gas is burned to heat a heat exchanger and the exhausted outside the boat. The heating air is drawn over the heat exchanger by the fan and then circulated to the outlets. Consequently there is no increase in humidity in the boat, and all combustion gases are totally separate from the heating air. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  3. Hi Frank. It was a HS2800 I had in my last boat. I did a google search for the best price and then took it to Norfolk Marine where they price matched it for me (I do like to support local businesses if I can!). Andy, when you say the propex needs proper ventilation, that's only for the combustion side. As the unit is room sealed, no additional ventilation is required. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  4. +1 Budgens is more than adequate for the village and well used by locals. The staff are really friendly and prices not too bad for a small shop. Why swap one store for another? Bloody Tescos destroyed Stalham high street when it was built. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  5. Hi Frank I have had these on both my two previous boats. They work well, but do not generate quite as much heat as the diesel equivalent. They do use a fair bit of gas, which isn't much of a problem with decent size Calor bottles, but can be more so I'd trying to run them from smaller Camping Gaz bottles. 6. Look forward to seeing her out and about!
  7. I saw that as well, and I agree it looks excellent. I've got a quacopter with a camera, but the video footage is no where near as clear as Paul's. I'm just waiting for some decent weather before getting some footage of the broads!
  8. John, that's why I suggested it was added to the information on the site, as I would think not many hirers are aware of it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  9. The site is coming on nicely David. Just one thing might be worth adding to the bridges section is right of way. For example, you have mentioned that the tide runs fast through Reedham bridge, but it could be worth highlighting that a craft travelling with the tide has right-of0way over a craft going against it?
  10. Please all bear in mind that the listing shown I earlier posts in this thread clearly displays a copyright symbol on the Green Book website and therefore must not be reproduced without permission. I have therefore removed the image from one of the posts.. sorry! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  11. Lovely pics. I didn't realise we had that much blue sky in December!
  12. I have seen seals over Breydon and on the river near Berney Inn, but not not yet seen them in Reedham. I have heard there are otters in Reedham now as well. Lovely to see them!
  13. Sounds like an excellent idea! Good luck to Trudi and Steve in this venture
  14. That does sound a good deal indeed! The place I mentioned in Wisbech were, at the time, about half the price of Norfolk Marine, but they don't seem to be that cheap anymore. I have recently found that Norfolk Marine are actually quite competitive for a lot of things nowadays (plus they will price match )
  15. When I had Tranquil Breeze, I fitted her out completely with wall carpet, as there was only the laminate on the walls at that time. I sprayed both the wall and the back of the carpet with normal carpet spray adhesive, and then left it a couple of minutes to go tacky before fitting it. There were one or two fiddly areas where I used Evostick impact adhesive as I could brush that on rather than getting loads of overspray. You are right that a lot of ventilation is needed, but even so I did get a headache or two from the fumes! At the time I found these to be the cheapest for the carpet, but I have no idea how they compare now. http://www.rainbowconversions.co.uk/Equipment/Carpet_Trim/carpet.htm
  16. I guess I've been quite lucky in being able to source Ali anodes for all of my various components. Don't forget though Dave, that being based in Reedham we are permanently brackish which is why we have seen a lot of anode erosion. The further upstream you go, the less effect I suspect. One other thing to consider is do you have any electrical bonding across your propshaft coupling? At present, we don't, which effectively means the shafts and props are electrically isolated from the entire boat by the coupling, and this is why we do have evidence of slight electrolysis on the props. Once we have put the bonding in, they will become part of the whole ground circuit and therefor take some protection from the hull anodes.
  17. Hi Dave Not sure if this would be of any use? http://www.martyranodes.com/content/martyr-products-services/pleasurecraft-anodes/propnut-anodes.php It might also be worth searching the Performance metals websites. I'm sure they also do Ali prop nut anodes, but I can't seem to find them at the moment. As for the hire boats, I don't know what they do wi new builds nowadays, but certainly there were no anodes on my first boat (a 30+ year old alpha). I can only assume the proliferation of 240v on boats makes the corrosion issue a little more important than it used to be.
  18. Hi Dave. I have a QL bow thruster with the same problem of not being able to get aluminium anodes. However, I did find that Sidepower do make aluminium anodes for their thrusters. A quick visit to JPC at Brundall and I found they had one of a similar size. All I had to do was counterbore the fixing hole and Bob was indeed my uncle. Be wary of thinking that a galvanic isolator will stop any corrosion issues; it won't. I have a galvanic isolator and even so, after one season the bow thruster anode and the pencil anodes in the heat exchangers are all but vanished. Galvanic isolators will only stop stray currents from your neighbours boats using your anodes, not stop you own boat using them! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  19. We have aluminium throughout, being moored at Reedham and regularly visiting the salty stuff it's the only choice. Secret Lady had been used on inland waters mostly by the previous owner. However, he hadn't bothered changing the anodes from zinc, and these had completely calcified to such an extent they were providing no protection at all. Do remember there may be other anodes to change too, such as pencil anodes in the heat exchanger, or one fitted to a bow thruster if you have one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  20. It is certainly worth reading some of the stuff online about Win8. I found these quite useful http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/windows/3284198/microsoft-windows-8-review/ http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/01/help-ive-got-windows-8-and-i-miss-my-start-menu/ http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/12/flushing-the-crapware-a-guide-to-reinstalling-windows-8-on-a-new-pc/ http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/11/windows-8-basics-tips-tricks-and-cures/
  21. Google Chrome has always worried me, which is why I've never installed it. After all, they are in the business of money for advertising, so all I can see is that Chrome is a really sneaky way of obtaining a good bit of market research from the users. Most websites are awash with advertising these days, mainly GoogleAds!
  22. I guess there will be a big overlap between us old fashioned mouse pushers until touch screen becomes the norm. I think Win8 makes a lot of sense on tablets etc, but 99% of programs rely on our sqeaky friends so for using a PC for anything remotely business orientated is probably going to feel a bit odd for years. I notice Microsoft are trying to bridge the gap with their new touch mouse, which seeks to replicate touchscreen gestures on the mouse itself. This seems a copycat of what Apple have done with their touch pad interfact for Macs. Always seem to be playing catch-up don't they?
  23. Who's sniping? I thought this was an adult discussion with opposing points of view being aired?
  24. Is it really that much of a big issue to have a riverside venue playing classical music for one summer evening in July? If it was heavy rock I could understand (and probably attend!). Just a shame that's the same date as my wedding reception or I might have considered going
  25. Jim, if you move your cursor to the top right to bring up the "charms" bar, then select devices, one of them should be your printer. Select it and then a "print" button will be available.
