  1. We used to have a share in Evening Shadow which is an Pearl 38 design with the bunks in the 3rd cabin.

At 6 foot 2 i could sleep in the front V berths but feet were well up against the end of the bed. Headroom was not too much of a problem but the cabin was on the small side anyway. The v berths are quite high compared to the other berths.

The bunks were far smaller than the front V berths.

  2. It is worth mentioning in all this, that a Webasto diesel heater uses 2.5.litres an hour. That is more than a Nanni engine at 6MPH.

Not wishing to disagree with someone who knows far more about boats than I ever well the specs seem to suggest a much lower rate of consumption: https://www.webasto.com/gb/markets-products/marine/heating-solutions/air-heaters/air-top/

Even the 5kw one only uses up to 0.7 litres an hour. Apparently.

  3. That's pretty much the sort of figure I was expecting.
She seems very economical given her length, certainly the newer boats of that size can use quite a lot more fuel than that in a week. Not being on hydraulics does help, of course.

Rarely above 2000 revs- you have to look after the old girl!

  4. What's the most fuel you've used in a week, out of interest?

Probably not the best people to ask- even when we go North we tend to go straight there, potter around a little bit and then go straight back.

I can't remember ever topping £100 of diesel. It's normally between £60 - £70 with Easter being a bit more heater heavy.

  5. When we have a big crew onboard Thunder we generally have a pumpout mid week and then refuel as well- if we are up North then generally southgates as Boulters takes about another 30mins of backwards and forwards!

A few weeks back though we stayed south for the week and used 60litres.

  6. Even for the South we found last week relatively quiet for school holidays. Spaces to moor all evening everywhere we stopped.

I wonder if short breaks are becoming more of the norm which makes getting "down south" all that bit harder.

  7. In round numbers our 2 week share in Thunder costs us £875 per year. That's 43 foot and 8 berths.

Last week we spent £60 on diesel and £23 on pumpouts assume the same for the other week is £166.

So total cost £1,040. Cost to hire equivalent boat last week alone was £1,815.

We had 4 people onboard for Easter week and 8 last week so that works at £12.40 per person per night.

    What's not to like :-)

  8. Another plus one for Hippersons from us- double pumpout in the week for £20. Thunder was a bit of a squeeze to get in and with hindsight we would have reversed into the basin!

Those tanks were rinsed for England!

I'm a fan of an open pub :-)

For me I would expect the landlord to deal with the problem few and enjoy the profits from the many.

And as pointed above door staff are often a condition of the license.

  10. Slack on Sunday is predicted to be 10:16 (to be exact!) so al good from that point of view.

St Olaves is certainly doable from Brundall if you get away at normal time. Plenty of other choices around if your plans change and you don't fancy St Olaves.
