LizG
Just seen on FB one of the boat sales sites offering two Maffett wooden cruisers for sale.
Broads01
Is that their two wooden hire boats (Swallow and Merlin)? Do you have a link? I'd be sad if Maffetts are to stop hiring. My late father hired Merlin and I've always been able to see myself following him.

Maxwellian
So sad, just noticed that Swallow is also up for sale. We were looking to hire her next year.

Chelsea14Ian
Graham has just done a service on our boat, speaking with his dad last year he said reduced the boats down to two.Was unaware he was selling the last two boats. They do a good business with the camp site and Graham is busy with lots of work.Great well kept boats.Would make a good starter boat Ian
Maxwellian
We have hired Swallow for a week or often two for several years now. Really going to miss her next year, any big money earners who want to buy her for me I am not too proud to accept gifts.
Malanka
They are beautiful boats and superbly kept. I would not recommend either of them as starter boats though unless you have deep velvet lined pockets, or Doug and Timbo's talent with a saw. The prices are really good but then for woodies that's usually the case. The sting is the toal cost over 5 years of ownership (cost in time and or money), which if you're lucky would be the rough equivalent of a more highly priced GRP design. If you're not so lucky (white Heron / Snowgoose) Both of which were superbly kept boats with a slight, unknown at the time, sting in the tail. There are other things to consider too, mooring location and the type of cruising you wish to do and so on. Whatever they are beautiful boats and I hope they both get new custodians as mad about wooden boats as we are.
