  1. Do we never learn, Eric? At least it's an excuse to start on the JWB!
  2. Lincan, hi and a very warm Welcome Aboard the friendly Forum. I'm only surprised that he still has a licence! Back in the 70' s I displayed the Buccaneer and I might have got away with that take-off! I displayed the Shorts Belfast at Yeovilton in the 90's but I did climb to 100 feet before I banked to 60 Degrees!
  3. We stayed at the Thirsk Weatherlodge a few years ago and thought it very good value. It broke the journey frm Norfolk to Arbroath very nicely.
  4. They are! (I can't find a pic I took a couple of years back of the notice board). The Ranger was issuing tickets to peeps moored there last year who could get under the bridge.
  5. That's something no-one else had thought to mention, Andy... I'm also fortunate enough to be able to add a TAD of stern thrust into the equation! :naughty:
  6. Right! I am 74 years old in 6 weeks time; I don't move half as fast as I used to. Mary-Jane has very limited hand strength and moves a lot slower than me; her balance isn't too good at times. We own an Alpha 35 Forward Drive (our choice as there's no stairs for M-J to negotiate). Not only do we have a Bow Thruster but also a Stern Thruster AND I have a gismo that hangs around my neck so that I can control the Thrusters from wherever I am. Mooring side-on I am completely solo and in any sort of tide or an off-shore wind I have to arrive at a mooring, stop the boat, stumble 30 odd feet to the rear, pick up the stern and forward warps, step off and finally hope to fasten both warps to wherever...... SOLO. Without our Thrusters we would have sold Friday Girl at least two years ago...............
  7. No probs, Marina. I've merged yours with this.
  8. That's a very good point, Andy. I unmoor solo and then usually just push off into the river before I make my way back to the forward-control position on our Alpha. I've already warmed the engine up but have never thought to do what you suggest. At Reedham or Gt Yarmouth that could end in tragedy!
  9. I'm afraid he would have got the same remark that I have to use nowadays: "I'll throw it in if you'll pull it out in the morning!" My back just isn't up to it anymore............... (I attach extra lengths of warp to my fore-warps and they stop the bow from moving just as well as a mud-plug).
  10. Excellent advice, Cheesey! Our Alpha 35 is pretty good in that sense but quite a fair number of times Mary-Jane has saved us with a quick reminder! (to me)...
  11. This is the most excellent Vulcan display that I've seen since the 70's. :bow I'm sure Martin Withers, DFC, RAF (Ret'd) , (Black Bucc1) wouldn't have put on this sort of display nowadays if it wasn't so near the end of the Vulcan's flying life. Heavens knows what the CAA thought about it! :clap
  12. The guys themselves have done a pretty good job on all the showers/loos there! I agree with Poggymale that the wet room is excellent for a familiar shower! :shocked (or did I mean "family"................................)
  13. From any friendly local farmer! I have quite a few 20L plastic "jerry cans" for sale at the moment!
  14. A very warm "Welcome Aboard" from us, Sue!
  15. And a bit later "Good Morning" to you all, Eric! It certainly looks a smashing place to be.. how long are you there for?
  16. It won't affect the split at all, that stays at 60:40 whatever the price. Yards will have to sell their current fuel before they can buy fresh at the new lower prices (and hopefully pass on that).
  17. I'm a great fan of Test cricket but this saga is beginning to drag! :naughty:
  18. That's exactly why we used to keep our sea-going boats at the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk YC at Lowestoft. We then took out a week/fortnights short stay toll when we wanted to visit the Broads... and that was expensive enough!
  19. Any of these, Eric? relaxed, insouciant, blithe, calm, placid, peaceful, tranquil, serene.......
  20. I see you're expecting T'storms, Eric.... well that'll be a change after Saudi!
  21. Personally ( and health issues aside) the thought of eating anything except fish with chips from a "Chippie" leaves me pretty cold!
  22. Absolutely, JA! I can feel the urge to get away very soon... Friday I to be precise!
  23. That's exactly how we attach ourselves.
  24. What a sad tale.... PLEASE don't let's have this sorry lot exhumed for the next Test. :cry
