  1. No problems at LW last September, Simon. (Our draft is about 3ft)
  2. I'll throw my hat into the ring as we've (unusually?) veered a bit off topic........ We moor at Brundall... we did moor at Wroxham but didn't particularly like the extra aggravation to get there (we visit the boat frequently). We spend two fortnight periods a year (May and September) oop North and apart from the drag from Great Yarmouth to Acle we do enjoy the upper reaches of the rivers there. The villages/towns/rivers are very attractive but therein lies the rub... everyone else thinks so! However, as we're well retired, we can go when we like and May/September are a compromise between the weather and number of visitors. We haven't experienced life there in June, July and August for probably over 30 years but considering the problems we get with moorings when we do go then I doubt we ever will venture North again in those three months. Conversely darn Sarf we do have long journeys watching, as Mark says, reed-banks and dragonflies. We choose to have an Alpha forward-drive 'cos Mary-Jane doesn't have to climb up and down stairs and we have grown accustomed to just looking for the wild-life that you can see from our restricted views. There's a lot to see out there as you trickle along with the tide at just above idle revs!
  3. "Except on right handed bends"! :naughty: (or the inside of any bend)
  4. You DO have a way with words, Jeff!
  5. Have they changed Titan then, Neil? http://www.maffett-cruisers.com/Images/repairs.pdf
  6. Lovely pic, Alan. And I agree with Alan above, please let's hear about it! (P.S. You're one of these trusting types who leave their tackle out on the roof for all to see?) :shocked
  7. Fortunately I can sit between two rooms, one with Sky and t'other with the Beeb!
  8. Halcyon days, Trev, the WAAF blocks were similar... and as for Cheltenham Ladies College dorms...............
  9. Beautifully penned, Grace, what a wonderful way with words you have! :clap Stuart, Hear! Hear!
  10. Thank you, John. The problem with a mud weight. used in a stern-on mooring on The Broads, is that if you use an adequate amount of scope then the bow will still be able to move about to a degree in a wind. At Oulton Broad Yacht Station I find it advantageous to throw the plug overboard about 50 ft from the mooring and then drag it in reverse to the quay. I probably only use about 20ft maximum of scope in this situation.
  11. Surprisingly enough I've never used that. I always use the numbers below the F's..........
  12. How many dB does it push out, Robin, please? (10W doesn't mean much to me).
  13. I'm not too sure if comparing a mud weight to an anchor is feasible... but here's what I remember from yotty days when we had a 35lb CQR anchor and 150 metres of chain. How an anchor works: Scope is the ratio of the depth of the bottom from the bow to the horizontal distance the bow is from the anchor. The depth can be conveniently measured by the depth sounder then add the height of the bow above the water. In areas of large tidal range what is adequate scope at low tide may not be sufficient at high tide. Generally speaking, 7 to 1 scope is considered adequate for overnight anchoring. The more scope, the better the anchor will hold. There are many factors that come into play but, if you have the room, why not throw out more rode creating more scope? After all, it's free. Boat anchoring showing how the anchor holds with different amounts of scope.
  14. Lori, hello and nice to hear from you. Such low life scrotes don't have minds as we know. They should be treated as pond life. Trying to understand them is just not possible.
  15. And that's just Clive's yard, Mike! Although possibly more than most of the others.
  16. Lots of new boats do have GPS speedometers, Neil but they don't seem to have much effect.
  17. Unfortunately, Neil, there's no other way they can apart from following you. And that's just not possible with the number of speeders about. Alan has brought up a subject dear to my heart!
  18. Ian, hello. Thank you for your considerate reply. Only when we consider that topics are becoming increasingly acrimonious do we suggest that. We have talked amongst ourselves in the Team Room over this and thought that it might so be coming.
  19. Perhaps one of those dashboard cam things you can get for cars would do the trick? If you fitted it with a 12V plug you could move it from car to boat.
  20. I thought Iain's comment was self explanatory.
  21. Peter & GR, I refer you to Iain's comment above.
  22. Lovely pics, Trev.... you did get the weather, didn't you?
  23. That's Mary-Jane's favourite on the Broads, Neil, just around the corner from the Kings Arms.
