  1. Have you got a Taylors Stove to go with it? They make a great cabin heater as well. Chris Nope But we had a lovely Origo on Rondonay. On 1929 built Brilliant I have a state of the art SMEV Moonlight 3. It's the only bit of modern tech. on view. Oil lamps don't count as modern do they? (The LEDs are behind 1930s bulkhead fresnels) Oh, and the induction hob connects to hidden 240v supply when on shore power, otherwise it's in a locker! If you are looking at Brilliant, only the cooker is obviously modern. Hiring sailing boats on the Broads is still very popular BTW, Hunters, Whelptons and Martham all keep busy. Like this
  2. It's horses for courses Peter. These boats make a comfortable cruising base, tourists will like them and probably re-book. In the meantime they get to be educated by seeing proper boats on the Broads. i really don't expect many people to understand my attachment to our original brass and bronze Baby Blake loo, either!
  3. Naice to encounter a better class of poster.
  4. Totally rubbish 'cos we are not there. I am busy today making a new dinghy cover as therapy.....
  5. We maybe spoke to you one day, the fleet was off downstream and we were headed into Black Horse Broad. Whoever it was on the safety boat kindly volunteered the information that the next race was at 2 o'clock and that Black Horse was not being used.
  6. If it's a small amount, Jeckells often seem to have remnants.
  7. Hawke House Marine Fareham do a lot of good stuff. Ebay will certainly yield search results too. I just bought uv stable vinyl canvas for a new boat cover, at a great price .

    Awesome! thanks very much Chris!
  9. I expect there would be a small flotilla of Diwali Lamps at NewYear, just as there is on the Thames; public health would overrule cremation practice in this country, so I think we are tilting at windmills
  10. I think the change of use permissions probably cover the mooring issue? As for this building becoming a lively temple as opposed to a failing business, I think it's a no-brainier.

    How well has she survived?
  12. I know they do, and it's usually the third weekend in June. The island is booked through the Cators and a number of organisations use it, not just NBF. However, it's not worth fostering any bad feeling.
  13. I am fairly sure none remain at LBBY but as has been said, Whispering Reeds have something suitable, probably HW do too, we took out a day boat there that was on the same plan as the LBBY luxury boats.
  14. Ahhh thanks! Brilliant is 9ft short of being a yacht then, as are most of them on the Broads; and of course, on reflecton, there are Wherry Yachts lurking about. ⛵️
  15. I was doing a Face Time thingy with small grandson; he was toting the current treasure, which was a flashcard picture of a saily. 'Boat' says I all helpfully, 'Yacht' corrected my daughter, and there on the reverse, was the word in question. I started to wonder...I never refer to Briiliant as a yacht, I call her a 'boat', 'sailing boat', or 'sailing cruiser'; why is that? Why have I never heard anyone else on the Broads talk about yachts either?
  16. Nice to meet you at last, Carol. It was a pleasure to visit the staithe and catch up with friends. Sorry to have missed you Peter, I got your message. Maybe next time we will be able to schedule Brilliant to take part.
  17. It was good to meet you, Myer, Martham's Clipper 1 looks to be an excellent little saily, well in your hands anyway.
  18. I said this with fingers crossed that we hadn't spent a fortune on more string than required. In fact it was just right, so hooray for geometry!! We are planning to see Richard and Sally's Bob Evening tonight at Thorpe and aim to drive over to Beccles tomorrow to see the guys, this will round off a lovely holiday in which Brilliant has performed impeccably.
  19. We are just coming to the end of a fortnight afloat, and it has been such a good holiday. We have had friends and family aboard at various points, lots of good sailing. I don't do holiday tales as such but these are a few highlights: teaching Phill's brother to sail. old friends who know a boat when they see one, were knocked out by how lovely Brilliant is, ( felt like a proud parent!!) we had a great day out sailing with them and a very leisurely BBQ at Salhouse, one of several. a return to Ranworth, which we did a couple of times, each time bumping into old acquaintances from our time mooring there, most enjoyable. we had a couple of nights moored at The New Inn and found the welcome and the food excellent, I hand fed the swans on Black Horse Broad, then later was relaxing with a foot on deck; the swan pecked my toe, then hissed because, presumably, he didn't like the taste.:) we spent a happy morning pruning the ****** willow tree in our dyke, Phill on the bow of a small motor cruiser with a lopper, controlled by a neighbour wielding our quant pole; cuttings raining down on my head in the Whimp where I and a lovely redoubtable 80 something lady were on collection duty. We got two dinghy loads and had a merry time of it. the new main sheet blocks work a treat and look awesome, well done Warp! our rule of thumb Pythagoras calculations of the new mainsheet turned out to be spot on, when I collected it from Norfolk Marine, they said 'This seems like a very long mainsheet.' and I replied that we had a very long boom
  20. Loved the story! I have memories of a drunken day boat outing on the cut. Going to the pub was fine, coming back, the boat kept bumping the bank, no idea why?.
  21. Condolences, what a sad event.
