  1. Just a tip, I ensure that my wife is totally disinterested in looking at forums, by giving her long, inaccurate interpretations of such threads as the thread about Jenners Island (she doesn't know where it is), how to install/repair loos on boats (that's definitely my job) and any thread where there is the slightest confrontation (she says she has enough aggro married to me without worrying about other people's arguments!) On this forum, I am almost a free man!
  2. Poppy, you could be a dead hero if your wife sees this thread.
  3. What we earn and what we get may sometimes be two different things!
  4. To return to a good moan, Estate agents are doing us a favour because we need to buy a house. No promised return calls, yesterday reluctantly met us at an empty house. Couldn't meet us at a time to allow us to travel, couldn't we leave work early, as their office closes at 5.30? We arrived early having re-arranged our lives to suit them, their rep. arrived, late, talking on his phone and remained so as we looked around the house on our own. When we walked out he chased after us asking for our decision. I am glad the house wasn't suitable as I would not have wanted to deal with him or his company.
  5. Bit flippant that by me-it was just one of those mornings when I wished I was on the boat rather than here! Best wishes to those going through difficult times, and thanks again for the replies.
  6. Strowager, someone once said there is more to life than boats. I don't believe it!
  7. Thank you gents, I believe I have the box referred to by Strowager. I will give it a go when I next get a minute, although we have had so many problems with broadband dropping off, and my wife, who knows more about these things, so many arguements with our provider that when it is working we tend to keep a 10 feet exclusion zone around all sockets and equipment. We will move in a few months time and start again with another provider! Thanks again for your interest.
  8. yes, thanks I am not sure if this is in the right category, just hope either he or someone similar reads this or it gets put into a more suitable place!
  9. I believe there may be people here who understand these things! Having had trouble with our router, my wife was persuaded to take telephone socket from its back plate, and as I put installed it in the first place, the inevitable happened and some of the wires left their connectors. I have actually sorted this now, I looked on the internet for help, but it seems things are different now. At the moment I have the following wiring: (predominate colour first) Blue and white wire socket 2 Orange/white wire socket 3 White and orange socket 4 White and blue socket 5 My question is, on the internet (!) it says that disconnecting one wire can make the broadband faster, but the colour wire does not correspond with my colours. Is this true and does anyone know which socket I could disconnect to help with broadband speed without ending in divorce? Thanks for reading.
  10. I can never remember where I heard jokes, Ronnie Barker and Porridge still make me laugh. I guess many of us know what is coming next, but still watch. I am happy to acknowledge the original. I can't think why this joke always comes to mind when I am in.............no, I not going to say it!
  11. Guy was sorting through his glove compartment is a certain county (not Norfolk or Suffolk-I am essentially a coward). He found a receipt for a shoe repair some 5 years old. As he was passing the shop, he thought he would pop in on the off chance they may still have the shoes. He presented the ticket, assistant disappears for a few moments, comes back and says "Yep-they'll be ready on Thursday".
  12. It appears that MM lit the blue touch paper and retired! Unless he is becalmed somewhere on his yacht!
  13. I usually assume that they've heard about my cheques!
  14. should read first part of title, internet went down during attempted edit
  15. Nyx itself may go straight, but I've seen MM helming her on the river...! As for the second part of the title..any volunteers?
  16. If you buy it, you will now have to call it Gladys!
  17. Just to keep to tradition and go off subject, we sometimes go to Chinese Buffet called Aroma, which always seems to me to lay them open to certain negative comments should anyone wish to make them.
  18. writing=correcting something that's wrong letter-giving 'er on board permission
  19. I was hoping to get the power to resist answering questions on threads on the forum, especially those I know nothing about...obviously that isn't working as I am about, once again, to push the submit button.....here goes....
  20. It's where speeding Scottish motor scooter riders end up if their brakes fail in Norwich! Just picking on me 'cos I'm old, I can still see my pension though!
  21. Oh Poppy, and it's such a lovely sunny day here in tondon, what did you have to say that for????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. My Seagull was excellent at propelling our dinghy!
  23. Well Jeff, you did ask! If rubbish is generated in my head at work, which is not a commercial venture, but is counted as one by the council, therefore having to pay for rubbish disposal I obviously wouldn’t want to add to the cost, so I generally keep my thoughts to myself, for which everyone is grateful. Strangely. I do most of my work thinking at home, which is a domestic property, therefore rubbish is collected through the community charge. So any rubbish disposal which is the result of mental strain and stress, would be disposed of here, even though it is technically commercial waste. Come to think of it, the whole mess described in this thread and others could have come from my head!
  24. Viking 23 I hope you like answers like that! My head is full of rubbish-always ready to share! By the way, I seem to remember a couple of weeks ago, there was plenty of water on the Southern Broadsand people were willing to share!
  25. after it has dredged maybe!!! I would suggest little and (very often)! slight problem at the bridge I would think.
