Okay maybe I am a bit over the top. They were ringing someone who hadn't had a an accident, to numbers that are registered with TPS. Maybe some of the rest was the result of the pain in my leg which has materialised in the last couple of days! Perhaps I had better kick the cat instead of posting, except I haven't got one.

I spoketh too soon. This morning my wife had a call from a given number. "I understand you recently had an accident that was not your fault" My wife hasn't, told them they are completely wrong and hung up. The point is that I did have an accident (details in another thread) nearly two weeks ago. I spent a few days in a Norfolk Hospital and following an operation returned home to Essex. The fact they rang my wife's phone indicates their information came from the times when she was giving her number as a contact point. I will be contacting the telephone preference service to see if this call is in breach of their regulations. I have both their name and telephone number, and will put that number into my phone as a scam should they ring again. I have not added this info in this thread owing to what has left me a little confused in recent comments about what should and should not be added. (The accident must have done me good, because before it happened, I was usually a lot confused!) Maybe when the stitches are removed, I may be able to play the piano with my toes-I will keep you posted!)

We have broadband and phone line which has nothing connected to it so would be happy to get a broadband only deal. One scam we used to hear of was receiving a call "We are calling about you BT phone" then offering a cheaper scheme which, when the recipent gave their details eventually turned out to be with a different company, "we are calling about your BT phone" not " we are calling from BT" A lady of our acquaintance (about 95 years old) had no internet or laptop. One day she was contacted on the phone and told of a problem with her laptop and was asked to get her laptop and turn it on etc. She implied she was doing so, after about ten minutes sounding confused the caller asked what was happening. She then said she didn't have these things and rang off. The caller rand back and complained that she has wasted his time!!! We now use only mobile phones and we haven't had a scam call for months, we did have a number all at one time about a year ago, there were numbers appearing so I logged each one as a scam, therefore just not answering them. TBH if I have the time, keeping them on the phone I find great fun. My usual answer to questions about accidents was to say I had had one, they then asked what I did about it, and I would reply I came hone waited for you to ring because I am too stupid to deal with things myself!

Never met the gentleman but it's always sad when someone passes on. Apart from the loss to his family and friends, I always feel with no disrespect intended that we all lose a bit of broads history, knowledge and wisdom.

Just an update. Managed to leave hospital 4.30 Friday afternoon. Travelled home to essex. Attended wedding in south London Saturday (was all day event more or less). Tried to upstage bride and groom by being in wheelchair-must be at the front/first/everyone move out of the way I've only just got this thing, think I came close 3rd. Anyway home last night and good nights sleep, I would say there is still no pain, just a little discomfort every now and again so that's great. Had promised myself a visit to the Yarmouth maritime festival next weekend as we had never been able to go before, then there's Independance needing a hand, but I guess it will be a normal weekend at home helping my wife by supervising her work and making her more efficient. 6 weeks non load bearing on left leg is going to do our marriage so much good! Thanks for all the good wishes we had a great day yesterday.

Thank you everyone for your interest and support. My operation took place this morning and lasted two hours. There were no complications apart from my lungs being reluctant to breathe in deeply enough when asleep. I am now back in the ward. If all continues to go well one of our sons will collect me from hospital Friday afternoon so I can be at the wedding Saturday. Thanks again one and all.

Now resident in private room! They've set the bones back together then tomorrow another op to put a supporting plate in. Hoping to be able to travel back to London at the end of the week for the wedding of one of our sons. Just have to play each day as they come. Once X-rays were done I have had excellent treatment . Thanks for all the good wishes.

I think the bank is ok. Everybody seems to think I should be writhing in agony but as long it is still and nobody touches it it really isn't too bad. My wife says " no sense-no feeling"

Slipped and fell down the bank at our moorings, may have broken bones in left ankle. Ankle certainly at a strange angle! Thanks to two coastguard teams who attended originally before the ambulance arrived. Got me splinted and into the dry. Some had left work to answer the call, one is a BA ranger and another works for BA. Thanks to everyone, I am now in James Paget hospital waiting for their verdict.

Mooring close to pubs can be a little difficult sometimes. It's worth having something on board just in case you can't get close enough to the pub. When you arrive in Stalham its almost impossible to miss tescos, so if you arrive early supplies can be bought there or in the local shops in the nearby high street ( still park in tesco if high st is busy). Remember although you have a long journey home the boat has to be back in the morning, so you may feel a quick visit to the seaside could take place on your last day. Have a great time.

Owing to a misunderstanding between my wife and I (apparently I "wasn't listening!) we left our boat with a leak over our grand daughters bed. We are going back today so I may need to sort this out whilst it is raining. It must be getting in around the handrails so I am hoping just to unscrew a little and get some sealer underneath. (Optomism). I remember reading of some very effective sealer that can be applied in the wet-can anyone advise please? Thanks.

We retreated home to essex on Thursday after getting soaked travelling from Stalham and having to go through PH bridge. Back again on Sunday with grandchildren and guests, so hoping for at least dry weather.

Hi robin, you passed us whilst we were moored at Irstead a short while ago. I was hiding under a sunshade so you may not have seen my wave (!) Trixie looking good.

So here is what actually happened. To be honest we don't eat out very often so our experience is a little limited. Our guests who live in Norwich do eat out often and would be honest in their assessment. We arrived about 6.45 and given a window seat within a couple of minutes. We ordered drinks and the waiter told us the food orders were taking 45 minutes although it may be sooner. Prawn. Salad. Ham and Eggs, Lasagne and Chilli arrived after 45 minutes, the food was piping hot (apart from the salad), was well presented and plenty of it. Deserts of strawberry and cream with ice cream, banana split and ice cream followed, which again were all good. We left after about two hours having been able to relax and chat, enjoyed the view from the window of the garden and river. The pub was busy but not overcrowded. Our friends are definitely putting The Bridge Inn on their list of places to eat. They felt that the food was good and plentiful and the space around and between tables was good. The staff were attentive and helpful. So all in all a good experience for us all. (Apart from the staff -I genuinely forgot to leave a tip so we "owe" them). The cost was just under £75 for the food and 8 drinks. For what it's worth that is the actual experience.

We keep our boat "up there" but always use the pilot as if I damage my boat its going to cost a lot more than the pilot. Having said that the pilots are very friendly and will give advice. We need about 6'2" for our Elysian. We always remember how helpful the pilots were when the river flooded, and it seems wrong only to use them when desperate! But that's just me. Enjoy your time on the best bit of the broads, we will be leaving the busy side at the end of this week and enjoying a couple of weeks back on the quiet side.

Tried to book a table for four Monday evening but told they no longer book tables. Every time we have been there they have been busy, does anyone have any recent experience of just arriving? Hope to take some visitors but don't want to traipse from one place to another if we can't get a table. Thanks for any info.

We normally moor at Waxham cut but at present at Gayes Staithe (Lord Paul and members on Magellan also here and I think some other members left as we arrived. Bit worrying about fires in Waxham cut fields. The depth isn't too bad, the width (just reeds that push to the sides) is a bit narrow e just before the mill. We take a leisurely cruise up and down and it takes about 20 mins. Each way. Sometimes have to reverse to clear weeds but only once last time. Can be a bit shallow at the entrance to the dyke but we need more people to use it!!

We are opposite Maycraft there is another area on the same side closer to the bridge

We and a number of others have just enjoyed a quiet night at the free quiet moorings provided by TBMC at Potter Heugham. Children had space to play and adults could sit on the well kept grass-all at no cost to us, so David (ex-pilot) please pass on our thanks to the committee. Also to others who also provide such facilities.
