  1. I just hang mine in an appropriate manner. Tied on top of the canopy's highest point when weighted. Out on the river side when wild on a bank. Yachts have no problem on the forestay or a crosstree. Come morning it goes back in it's box.
  2. I meant to add that it has a photoelectric cell so turns itself on and off so is very useful when returning to your boat after dark. Had mine nine years and would recommend.
  3. I don't want to put this on the other thread and I am certainly not saying that one could have prevented the tragic events of Thursday evening Perhaps it is coming back only in the last ten years to the Broads after a gap of 40 years and the time between being on the sea but I have always set an anchor light when weighted. in fact I set it if wild moored along the river and certainly in Fleet Dyke that sees a lot of after dark movement. The beauty of this one is it's very small current draw. http://www.force4.co.uk/force-4-utility-anchor-light.html#.V8FnWpgrJP4

Nice breeze setting in now, should be good for both crews and spectators. I would love to be anchored out there watching today. But circumstance will keep the boat tied up in Stalham.
  5. Not good news Peter, but from what you say not as serious as reported in the press and on line for the mother. So good from that stand point.
  6. In all honesty Sutton is so popular as a last night for Stalham, with the pub on hand for a last meal, 5pm is too late any day of the week in the hiring season. In high season I have seen boats circling in the broad like sharks at 11am waiting for leavers.
  7. My understanding is as a distributor road linking mass urban development there will eventually be so many roundabouts on it into housing that the speed will be such that noise should not be a problem. Air pollution, maybe, but not noise.
  8. Totally agree Peter, there is no point in chewing the fat on this one and who knows it could cause distress. The relevant authorities have matters in hand and as you say all will be revealed in the fullness of time. As has been said, I am sure we all hope for a speedy but more importantly full recovery for those involved.
  9. What a very sad end to what should have been a fun evening out. http://www.ybw.com/news-from-yachting-boating-world/two-hospitalised-speedboat-crash-oulton-broad-41291 Other reports say the vessel was not a conventional speedboat but in fact a RIB. Let us wish those involved a speedy recovery.
  10. It has stood since circa 1385. If you are unable to pass through get a boat that can. Marthams Jubilee and Judiths are not exactly small and they go through. If it were not for the bridge the Upper Thurne would be like the rest of the Northern Broads overcrowded and not peaceful during the summer.

A deck chair on Ludham Bridge. Best free show in Norfolk. Especially if a decent breeze gets going!
  12. I was looking earlier at UK coastguard regarding The Camber Sands incident ( an area I know well) The Oulton incident in on there also Speedboat with two adults and two children collided with a moored craft occupants taken to hospital by ambulance. There were no further details.
  13. They would look to entertain, inform and amuse. One can not expect an Andrew Marr confrontational interview on a local station talking about their back yard. Give the fellow a break, he has said it is for marketing purposes on a worldwide stage. If he or the organisation renege on that promise then hold them to account.
  14. Seems it made the BBC news. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37168678
  15. Seriously, does Scotland still have the old August Bank Holiday at the beginning of the month?
  16. That is because you take an extra for Hogs May Day, and Robert the Burnt, and Ivenhoe etc.
  17. Not forgetting that on leaving The Ferry quite a few will have a couple of pints or more onboard that would see them off the roads for a year if they were at the helm of a motor car!
  18. Still misty and very dull, but the forecast is now for it not to rain. Suppose I will have to water then!
  19. Very foggy and dark on coast now , must have dropped 10c from this afternoon.
  20. There are brave men, there are old men but very few brave old men. I hope you are one of the latter.
  21. There is a guy in red hi-vis controling the lights just past the OAP home on the Coltishall to Norwich stretch. Went that way yesterday to the NNUH on the Coltishall to N. Walsham stretch there were three cars stuffed into banks, ditches and trees. Sun must cook their brains.
  22. I had two boats at Ridge Wharf for many years. Dorset really can feel quite continental when the weather is kind. That's ok then, but Cape Everett Park does not quite have the ring of Cap Jean Ferrat or Juan les Pins.
  23. Funny you say that Richard, it had the look of a polarising filter to me, but I would not like to upset a Drascombe man.
  24. In the last hour we have been enveloped in a cool northerly North Sea mist a right Haar . That is Norfolk and the North Sea for you.
