  1. Yes, it was described on CH86 by Humber Coastguard as an unusually deep low for this time of year. Unfortunately my Runners and climbing French were beyond saving as were two courgette plants ripped out of the ground. Vaughan would not know that, too busy soaking up the sun and enjoying Moule Frites for lunch. I guess.
  2. For those readers who are not familiar with the North Martham Broad it is a beautiful piece of broadland wilderness with the most upper reach of the Thurne separating the north and south of the Broad. Off the river it is more like a deep water swamp, probably the nearest thing to an Everglade making passage impossible for any vessel except of the shallowest of draft and manually propelled.
  3. This was a response to a family who were in distress. The only persons who are in a position to question the validity of the response are the crew who attended. I doubt anybody else would take a boat into that Broad. No one else is qualified to comment.
  4. Looks like the rain is going to hang about until late morning, pm not too bad. Wind SW 3 to 4, could gust 5
  5. Early October can be a beautiful time of the year on the Broads. Hope you have a really good break.
  6. Why do they taste so good when you are in the Med, on holiday, and care free. I bet you a tenner that if you bring a can home and drink it after a shift it will taste like dish water. I know, done it with beer, wine and spirits. Leave them on their own turf, they do not travel well.
  7. As a Governor of the RNLI for more years than I care to remember and a resident of the Norfolk Coast who supports our excellent four independent stations ( Mundesley, Sea Palling, Hemsby and Caister I really fail to see the constant need to question the launch of a lifeboat. The most simple situation can so easily get out of control. A small ( actually 19ft ) boat being blown across an unnavigable weed infested Broad, no way of sailing to windward out, in the winds of yesterday and the motor US. I suspect that a number of the crew of that SeaWych were very frightened and extremely greatful to the Hemsby Crew. IMHO well done lads.
  8. A Seawych. I built one in the mid 70's You often see these adverised as "Sadler Seawych" which is really a bit naughty! The Seawych was designed by John Sadler who was in fact a Civil Engineer and moulded at his factory in Churchill Rd, Bicester, Oxon. The first 300 or so where white hull and grey topsides the rest were red hull and white topsides. Up until 1978 they were a complete kit of parts after that you could buy a kit with ballast encapsulated and interior moulding and hull and superstructure complete. The boat numbering was very haphazard on the white and grey boats, when you went to pick up your kit you were asked what colour sails "red or blue" these were pre-numbered so you sail number did not mean much! So I say naughty because a SeaWych never saw the pen of David Sadler of contessa fame or Sadler yachts run by his son Martin with some input by Rodney Pattison. Now you know.
  9. Let us hope not too many suffer damage on the first day. Listened in on VHF CH86 at 07.50 this morning and the unusually deep low is moving away nicely. In fact winds could be a bit on the light side mid week, hopefully a decent sea breeze will kick in with the hot weather forecast.
  10. I agree, but you might have airbrushed out that can of John Smiths!
  11. Hi, Richard, So those filtered extension leads are in fact working against the RCD! Am I correct?
  12. New Head Ranger! You know I thought that I had not heard from Yogi and Boo Boo for a week or so.
  13. Just been out near Mundesley and the wind is really begining to kick off. Got my hand held anemometer out on our terrace (we are exposed) and got a 37mph gust mean is running at 22mph.
  14. Looking at the charts you should have no problem. It will be windy but SSE. so not influenced by tide if you keep to the red ones it should be smooth up and down stream and smooth with the wind a' beam Wish I was able to attend. Have great weekend all.
  15. If only more thought and acted like you.
  16. Ya still has a dickey at Bridlington?
  17. On his Vespa, the radio car or on his very nice Sancere 33. Met him a few years ago at Irstead Staite , what a very nice chap he is. Always liked the Sancere as a cruiser. His looked a particularly nice example. Correction it is a Lambretta vintage 1966.

  19. I think you have said the word "New" Older boat/ancient boat = old batt bank * reluctance to buy multiple expensive replacements = poor batt capacity & anti-social running. QED.
  20. http://www.johnpye.co.uk/project/public-auction-by-tender-contents-of-a-boatyard/ A sad demise for a once large organisation.
  21. Could be a buy here. snatchback and enforcement don't tend to make good money. But then if they were having problems their upkeep could be poor. http://www.johnpye.co.uk/project/public-auction-by-tender-contents-of-a-boatyard/
  22. You have just reduced their rarity value Griff, a few eh! Not more than a pony now. That is £25 for those of northern persuasion.
