  1. one lads week in october we managed to moor 4 boats there at horning, ok we were doubled up, but there were two other boats already there.
  2. Marthams boatyard, slipway and parking, charge for parking and slipway use., bonus, above potter heigham bridge .
  3. Fried Egg and Bacon Roll or sandwich, a must to start the day when on holiday
  4. I have my big camera lens for getting avian pictures.
  5. well done, you will enjoy yourself, and then we will see you every year from now onwards, the norfolk broads is a bug, once you get it you cant stay away.
  6. sometimes the answer is as simple as putting a table near the doorway to place the object upon while opening the door.
  7. my daughters boyfriend works at a care home, they had one death early on (a resident that was already dying) that covid 19 was put on the death certificate because he tested positive in the autopsy, despite the fact he was already terminal. the care home did not find out until the relatives mentioned it that covid was the cause of death on the certificate.
  8. unfortunately since Boris announcement bookings have probably gone through the roof. i was lucky to add 4 nights to my previously booked week.
  9. the Martham boats are lovely old ladies, no wifi though, but they do have usb charging points, the good bit is they will go under all of the bridges most of the time, and they start above potter heigham in one of the lovely quiet areas (also good for learning to control the boats) a very friendly helpful yard, i have had several of their boats now and enjoyed them all. this is the river Chet, from aboard Jayne from marthams
  10. tow it along behind and get one of the lads to move it to the front when approaching a stern on mooring, we take 3 dinghies each year on our lads week with 4 boats and 24 lads. just tow along slightly out of the prop wash or it will fill with water washing up the centreboard case.
  11. I think its starting to get the other way around that i am adding detail that Griff is going to have to copy
  12. A lot of the ability to judge risk has been washed away from the younger generation, with the nanny state judging what risks are or are not acceptable, when I was younger I made a decision, if it was the wrong one and i got hurt I accepted that I had messed up and learned not to do it again, yet so much is not allowed now that the ability to learn from mistakes and judge risks is becoming a dying art. I have also through work been lucky enough to do a course with the health and safety executive to assess risk assessments, this means I can read through a risk assessment and check to see that all of the aspects of the risks have been taken into account, you would be stunned by the number of risk assessments that miss the obvious, for example a risk assessment made for carrying something that states you will carry this with both hands at all times, but doesnt factor in the 3 doorways that have to be opened with one hand while you hold the item with the other two. the course teaches you to see the risk in the ordinary as well as the risk from other factors.
  13. certainly tight and windey, but I loved it when in Jayne last year, having a boat that could do a single point U turn at pyes mill to moor was a bonus, as everyone else was having to head to the end to turn in the basin.
  14. (a spear) -yes and how can you describe who did it when they are wearing a face mask.
  15. Its still a case of being careful, but the current risk is a lot lower that it has been for a while, the last couple of days the published death rate has risen, from a few days ago, but part of that is down to historic data that had not previously been included being lumped onto the current days data, for the 22nd the death rate jumped from 15 to 220, but 160 of those new deaths were from previous months.
  16. I am indoors - working before it gets too warm. 2 hours in so far.
  17. will all the dances be disco, with 2m spacing? Line dancing?
  18. when you look at the figures it doesnt look too bad though, compared to the population of the uk, yesterdays 660 new cases is 1 in 100,000 of the population, of course it could be the first person you meet, but the risks are a lot lower than they have been and you have to also consider that the covid death rate is down to the region of 1% of the normal daily death rate from all causes.
  19. yes, just stay aboard, dont watch the news or listen to it and phone turned off, so if they reverse lockdown you wont have to know about it.
  20. I have from the 21st July booked through to 1st August, As soon as I heard that we were allowed and as the boat wasnt booked out after my original finish date I extended my booking by another 4 nights, then I have just under a week back at work before I am due out again, this time from the south side, Pubs I thik will be a case of phoning ahead to see what services they do have available, if its just moorings and takeaway, thats fine by me, but they could be starting to get back to nearer normal (with social distancing observed). anyway, have a good time and enjoy your holiday
  21. I have noticed that with the ASDA pickers too, yes they may be busy, some are so new they dont have uniforms, but when two are in the same part of an aisle chatting to each other, and there is a queue of people spaced evenly at 2m intervals up the aisle they are blocking patiently waiting for the person in front to move, it gets a bit much, or as you say when they dart in through the no entry end to pick an item just beside you and you dont have the option to move out of their way as then you would impinge upon the person behind you's 2m space.
  22. Hmm, Now i am certain I posted that somewhere just the other day, well not the smiley bit at the end though. is someone being a cheeky chappie. I am sure there is a corner of Heck (well hell is religious so we cant say that) somewhere for cheeky chappies that dont properly attribute quotes.
  23. I hope for your sake they are, but with my boat being hired from one of the few companies that dont require a bridge pilot at wroxham, I also sort of hope not too, as if Marthams get me under Potter Heigham bridge, then Wroxham wont be a problem (or weyford), and if the bridge pilot isnt working, then all the more space for me.
  24. Thanks, those pictures will get me along a bit.
