  1. I seem to recall there was a product you put on the lens then peeled off, taking with it all the dust and dirt, as for sensors (a far bigger problem in my mind) I have a sensor pen, but even that doesnt always get everything off, a little puffer brush is good, but they tend to redistribute the dust. try not to leave the camera body open any longer than necessary, either change lenses or get the body cap on, prevention in this case is a lot easier than the cure. to check for dirt on the sensor, take a picture with no lens on - pointed at a pale background, then get the picture up on your computer, you will see any dirt on the sensor. for cleaning I use a sensor pen, a strong light and a magnifying glass, check all the edges and corners particularly. 2. our asda has signs on the pumps from memory it is 2x 5 litre plastic or 1x 10 litre metal max. they don't have to allow the maximum the law allows I guess, but you would hope they have their own rules clearly stated somewhere visible. Grendel
  3. you need an awning for the dinghy, colour grey - with the shark teeth painted or printed on it (and a fin half way along sticking up)
  4. its like yesterday, when I was stuck on the motorway on the way home, we sat for a couple of hours, as we moved off again there must have been 5 or 6 cars broken down in the traffic queue. My guess is that they had not done essential maintenance on their cars and thus the car had died. I see the same all the time with people who don't check the oil, water or even tyre pressures regularly, then wonder why they have a blowout on the motorway after 20 miles driving on a flatish tyre. mine at least get a visual inspection before each trip, and oil and water checked weekly. 5. how about a small Bell tent, or maybe a santa claus outfit. Grendel
  6. Free willy (as long as people don't think its an advert for services rendered)

  8. in my teens and twenties, I had feet that could clear an outside bar in seconds, it was so bad that on taking shoes or boots off both the feet and boots would gently steam for about half an hour, this was eventually cured by a, wearing sandals when out, and b, not wearing shoes or socks at ever possible opportunity. now I have tough soles on my feet, they dont smell overly much. I also used to have a problem, I could only wear cotton socks - or my feet got worse, with size 14 feet there was only 1 shop in the uk that sold them - Stead and Simpsons in London. Yes I do now wear sandals, sometimes without sock, sometimes with (but never white socks) I also have crocs, both the normal ones and the industrial ones with no holes. I can now wear trainers all day, but the minute I get home, off come the shoes and socks, and I dont have problems. for boating I used to have some canvas baseball boots, ex polish army baseball boots, the only pair that I have had at a reasonable price in my size. that or a pair of deck shoes I have now. 11. considering it took me 5 hours to get across the Dartford tunnel this morning from Gravesend where I joined the back of the queue, I would say its a tad windy today. (arrived at work just in time for Lunch) Grendel
  12. isnt Jon looking for some new workers at Wayford?
  13. I thought the classic firm was Bodgit, Legit and Scarper. Grendel
  14. I had a friend in Canada who commented after watching that the British really do know how to do these things properly, so maybe it came out of the tourism budget. Swings and roundabouts, it may be a waste of money, but it was something other countries saw as properly British (mainly because they don't have the depth of history that we appear to). Grendel
  15. I didnt know Tony Robinson was American...
  16. Stocking Up? surely a set of garters to keep it there..... I'll get my hat... Grendel

  18. they look similar, basically its a thicker needle that has a bigger hole for thicker thread, the ones just for leather have a flattened point that cuts the leather rather than just trying to poke a hole, but those look like they would do the job, those or the ones for jeans. I used to go through 2 thicknesses of leather, but used an old heavy duty hand cranked machine so could ease the needle through, this is usually the biggest problem with thick fabrics (and leather) I have also sewed up viking tents using this machine, we used old canvas from theatre curtains which was quite heavy duty. Grendel
  19. you might need special needles for the thicker canvas, I used to do leather work using special leather needles (ridiculously sharp and triangular, they will go through a finger like butter) Grendel

  21. and from personal experience watch out for tractors towing centre wheeled 30 to 40 foot trailers when they turn left and the back of the trailer swings across to block the road in front of you. Grendel
  22. Calamitous in Childerditch, the light levels dropped, the fork lift driver put his headlights on, and apart from clouds - that's all we saw. Grendel
  23. my trick is to get on the motorway and set my cruise at 65 mph, then I settle back and enjoy the ride, I am near enough the speed limit to be comfortable, have enough extra speed to get past lorries, and lets see anyone intimidate my cruise control into going too fast by tailgating me (though people in the middle lane doing 50mph when everything else is going faster do annoy me) Cue my pulling up close behind in inside lane, then moving out across 2 lanes behind them, overtaking and then going back in 2 lanes. Grendel
  24. its about an 80% eclipse, so it will get dusk like. My best comment heard today, from a work colleague, texted his daughter, watch out for the eclipse between 8.30 and 10 30 - answer, is that this morning or this evening? Grendel
