  2. Imust be missing it twice 'cos I only counted six, though with the week in February and the "overlap" which sometimes occurs that explains it
  3. Maybe it's just my natural positive outlook on life, but I watched that thinking, what a good job.The helmsman showed decent enough skill, positioning the boat on approach, bringing it to a stop, holding it in the stream, lining it up etc. OK, he let the stern swing a little to far to starboard, but we are not all experts. Then letting the crew "leg it" under the bridge, perhaps they were more used to the canals, legging forty tons of narrow boat through a mile or two of tunnel. I don't think getting under Wroxham Bridge is quite in that league. I rather liked the video. OK, breaking the rules and therefore not something I would do (because I haven't got the balls!) but it does rather remind one of the times before pilots when people had to negotiate the bridge themselves, before the world was taken over by the nanny state.
  4. I've just put Breydon in his moses basket by the TV with video of Status Qui from Live Aid, Chris de Burgh's Munich concert and some Meat Loaf. Does that rate as child cruelty?
  5. Crikey Timbo, I didn't think anyone would guess it that quickly ....
  6. I'm wondering if it was a girl might I have called her Beccles?
  7. It might have helped if I had put the name mightn't it, but I'm enjoying the guesses .........
  8. Pleased to announce the safe arrival of the latest family member on Monday. The good lady wife spat forth Bratticus Secundus weighing in at 7'10. Mother and baby both well. And we've named him after one of our favourite spots on the Broads.
  9. Gnats Knacker is usually my measure, if it's within a Gnat's Knacker that's close enough. Having never measured the ******** of a Nematocera I'm not sure quite what the exact size is. If I ever said to my father "that's close enough" he would say measure it again. Once it was exact his reply was "that's close enough".
  10. such is my understanding of the five cut method, you divide by four being the number of edges you have cut from, discounting the first cut which is only done to create the first edge, so the fifth cut is made from the fourth edge hence creating four multiples of your variance. You then measure the variance and divide by four. At least that's how my father taught me, he was a Master Carpenter. I know I haven't exactly explained it very well. I used that calculation when I built my wall mounted panel saw, and found the result to be quite accurate, but eventually invested in a dial indicator which I don't think is any more accurate but much quicker.
  11. my tears fell like rain
  12. A Yarmouth lady with drawers, must be from the posh end.

  14. I was only going by the EDP's report, and I know EDP and accuracy are not always good bedfellows but their report does suggest that Ei intend to reopen the venue quickly with a new operator, not owner. It would not be beyond Ei to decode the venue has become very popular and that it could generate more revenue as a managed house, rather than the short term unsecured lease on which it had been operating.
  15. Have I misunderstood? I didn't think Ei were looking to sell but to reopen the pub themselves. Perhaps with a manager rather than a tennant?
  16. Have to agree with JM, the King's in Beccles has always been half decent when we have visited. Sadly I'm not so lucky with the Caxton Club, we asked if we could go in once when Tosh Ewin's was playing as we always try and catch one of his gigs when we visit, and he doesn't play too many around the broads anymore. Was pointed out to us that it was a members club, as if we didn't understand what that meant.
  17. I'm sad to say I agree with you, I would never have dreamt of such at one time. The closure at the Buck sounds very political, something not uncommon at Ei
  18. I note that the New Inn are having their Halloween Party tomorrow, Fri 20th. One of our locals are having their Bonfire Night on Saturday, 21st. Is it just me, or is this "spreading" of dates all getting a bit daft?
  19. I'm not sure what your understanding of the law is, but there is generally no law prohibiting accompanied children in pubs. An individual license might have restrictions placed upon it, the licensing body might prohibit children from licensed premises if they feel just cause but that is case by case and my understanding is that such is very rare.
  20. Every day's a school day. She used an analogue fly by wire, the first such system on any aircraft.
  21. I love Concorde. I wrote the thesis for my Travel and Tourism Diploma about the aircraft, and was lucky enough during my time in the industry to fly on her on three occasions. Many things which we take for granted in passenger aviation today, full function auto pilot, fly by wire etc first appeared on Concorde. Her history is fascinating.
  22. lots of options in 8*30*10, standard, shallow and deep groove, but 32 is a non standard size
  23. these any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/U-Shape-Deep-Groove-Idler-Pulley-Ball-Bearing-Nylon-Plastic-Embedded-Series-/262631176659
