  1. I hope he understands the side effects of cinnamon, liver damage, diabetes, respiratory disease, cancer. Cinnamon is both toxic and carcinogenic. He might be better vaping.
  2. I'm sure they have, though what no report can ever tell is if those people would have taken up smoking, in which case vaping is much the better option for them. I vape, having switched from smoking two years ago, and having done so would not return to cigarettes. Am I bothered about being able to vape in a pub? Not at all. I'll go outside with the rest of the dead men walking if I need to imbibe, that doesn't bother me.
  3. The last time we were on the Northern rivers, October 2015 we tried twice during the week to visit Wroxham just to visit the town and do some shopping without success, on Tuesday and Thursday. It being October Barnes yard was full with their own hire fleet, in places on the river front moored two or even three abreast. We asked at Faircraft who had a whole quay empty but were told it was needed for their day boat fleet and that they too, had no space. On the Thursday the same was the case at Barnes, though the "day boat" quay at Faircraft had several visiting hire boats moored we were told they were full. I got the distinct impression at Faircraft that they felt Contessa was not posh enough for their yard. We decided that would be our last holiday on the Northern Rivers, the mooring situation is becoming a farce. We returned to the South in 2016 and stayed there, in future we will do the same.
  4. I'm always happy to improve someone's education. https://www.nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs/long-term-vaping-far-safer-than-smoking-says-landmark-study/
  5. you could hire a day boat for a few days but at about a hundred pounds a day I wonder if it's worth it. Driving a boat is not difficult although some people make it look like rocket science. If your main need for the boat is angling you might want to look at something like this: https://www.boatshed.com/aquastar_20-boat-246003.html/. Plenty of room for fishing, good shelter from the weather if it turns inclement or you want to fish overnight and a couple of sleeping berths if you want to go exploring. If you decide a few months down the line that you want something different you would not lose much if anything selling something like this on.
  6. Yes, enjoy! The scenery is stunning Download the canal guide from Scottish Canals ..... https://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/activities/boating/caledonian-canal/ Drumnadrochit and the Nessie exhibition is a must, as are the Falls of Foyers, almost opposite across Loch Ness. Fort Augustus, in the middle of the canal is lovely with a very good pub alongside the flight of locks. There are not too many canalside shops but there is a very good one at The Well Of Seven Heads on Loch Oich, very useful for fresh milk, bread etc. At this time of year you should be well ahead of the midges. Remember the Loch's close at 5.30 in the spring and close for an hour at lunch times, usually between 12.00 and 2.00 If you want to visit Fort William there is a good regular bus service right by the canal at Corpach.
  7. I used to love to see the different boatyard's pennants flying from the fore mast. I think it's a shame they no longer have them. It is symbolic of a lack of pride which IMHO leads to a lowering of standards
  8. There does seem to be a trend for wheat beers and lambic ales recently, which I have to admit I'm not keen on. I generally bow to the Nog's expertise in this area but I'm not fully buying the unfined argument. I've been brewing for thirty years and have never used a drop of finings in anything I've brewed, mainly because I have one or two vegetarian supping pals who would not appreciate regular finings and the vege friendly varieties have never had good press amongst those on the brewing forums I frequent. Despite that I never fail to get a beer clean as long as it's brewed, conditioned and kept properly. Some of you might remember that I used to take several kegs of ale to the NBN forum meets at Ranworth when my input was still appreciated on that other side. I always tried to get them in place on Friday night to give them chance to drop clear, sometimes it worked, sometimes not, a beer usually needs two or three days. Those that hadn't "brightened" in time for Saturday afternoon were usually just about perfect by Sunday breakfast though it bever effected the taste, or seemingly popularity of the brew!. I wonder sometimes if landlords nowadays are so used to having "racked bright" products delivered they don't know how to handle a live barrel.
  9. I use LPG, and it's no fun at the moment. Flogas are at fault here IMHO, they scheduled maintenance at their two main depots, at Southampton and Cardiff at the same time in January. Surprise surprise both overran, and guess what, we then had a cold snap. Who'd have expected that in January and February. They had planned to bring in gas from Europe and Russia but were unable to due to a fire at a plant in Austria and demand across Europe being higher than expected. The net result is they are unable to supply road fuel whilst they focus on domestic supply. Calor / Autogas are supplying as usual but they cannot keep up with the extra demand because of the lack of gas at Flogas supplied stations.
  10. Yes, there are many forms of motor transport available for £70k, and I think Floyd is wishing he had chosen anything other than a Tesla
  11. A friend at our local cricket club has just bought a Tesla, ex demonstrator for close to 70k and he's very upset with it. He was promised a range in excess of 265 miles based on worst case scenario, cold weather, heaters and lights on etc. This was quite important to him as his parents live 125 miles away and he wanted to be able to visit them without having to recharge. First attempt and he ran out of charge six miles short of home. He's also very unhappy about the speed it charges. Despite having the Tesla home charger installed it takes twelve hours to fully charge from empty. Hardly the "overnight" he was given to believe,
  12. Now Calor Gas is completely different, let me explain. Gas comes in three different coloured bottles, red which contains propane, blue which is butane and yellow which is trump gas, but ....... it's not just the colour of the bottle that will determine the allowable use but also the colour of the gas inside. If you have a red bottle full of green gas that can only be used for barbecues and patio heaters, whilst a red bottle full of red gas can be used for anything except road transport for which you will need a red bottle full of blue gas, as opposed to a blue bottle full of red gas which can only be used for camping stoves and gas lanterns. If you have a blue bottle full of green gas that can only be used for boating and caravan applications whilst a blue bottle full of blue gas should only be used in radiant heaters. If you have a Yellow bottle full of red gas you can use that for any commercial purpose except for fork lift trucks for which you will need a yellow bottle full of blue gas. A yellow bottle full of green gas should only be used for gas lances, weed killers, bitumen lances etc and if you have a yellow bottle full of orange gas you've eaten too many baked beans. I think that's cleared that up
  13. For services to Hidden Agendas I believe
  14. Interesting news in this mornings Times supplement "Prime minister Teresa May has confirmed reports that the Government are looking at ways of introducing a higher rate fuel duty on electricity used for the propulsion of commercial and private vehicles. The U.K. Treasury is set to lose an estimated £3.5bn over the next five years as electricity, currently subject to 5% VAT increasingly replaces fossil fuels with tax levels in excess of 70% Prime Minister Teresa May confirmed that she had already consulted cabinet colleagues about methods to identify electricity used as road fuel and enable fuel duty to be applied. It is believed that the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is the only one who has currently put forward any firm proposals. "I believe the best method would be to colour Electricity used for road fuel in the same way we have done with Diesel for agricultural use, a system which has worked well for many years" he said. "We all know normal electricity is blue, perhaps that used for road fuel could be coloured green?" Meanwhile Secretary of State for the Environment, Michael Gove confirmed that discussions were "well underway" and that replacing the lost revenue is one of government's main priorities for the remainder of the current term. When asked if this could effect any other forms of transport he added "I think Boris (Johnson) has the best ideas on this yet, and especially like his thought on colouring propulsion fuels. If this is successful with electricity we may be able to move it into other forms of transport, such as differently coloured wind for the propulsion of sail boats"."
  15. To fly on Concorde - ticked To see Montserrat Caballe live - ticked To see "The Big Five" in their natural habitat - ticked To watch Liverpool lift the Champions League - ticked To see Madame Butterfly at Arena di Verona - pending To own a Range Rover - under review I was lucky that my work in the travel industry afforded me the opportunity to fly on Concorde twice, and also to safari in various parts of Africa on a number of occasions. It also allowed me to pull some very considerable strings to make it to Istanbul in 2005 for what surely rates as the greatest European Cup / Champions League final of all time when Liverpool overturned a 0-3 half time deficit to AC Milan, winning on penalties thanks largely to the heroics of Jerzy Dudek. I would love to have seen Montserrat Caballe performing a full opera, that never happened however I did see her in concert in Munich in 1990, indescribable! I doubt I will get to see Madame Butterfly (or anything else for that matter) at Verona. After thirty years travelling the world I have no desire to go overseas again. As for the Range Rover just about every one I know who ever owned one has had huge problems with them, though strangely this doesn't stop them buying another. I'm coming to the opinion that that is a carousel of pain I don't want to get on!
  16. Are we allowed to say "tossing" on the forum, and who is the dummy in question?
  17. I doubt the media would give a flying fanny, if they even knew the difference between "A Member ........" and a "National Park"
  18. I don't think England need to get too upset, we have had a bad tournament yes, but we have an awful lot of players missing. It was always going to be a challenge. What we are perhaps seeing is that the second string is not as strong as we thought it was, especially amongst the forwards.
  19. No, just the construction of suitable sized tray for his average burger ......
  20. There is of course an option available here, if no "rent a grandpa" is available. Amazon sell inflatable adults. The one I looked at was called "Vinyl Vera" but it would appear they offer men as well. You would need to provide them with clothes as, for some reason they seem to be sold "disrobed" I can't see any other function for these plastic inflatables.
  21. 2.25 tonnes to be specific, the average density of Marine Diesel being 0.93 kg / l. Assuming marine diesel is used, automotive diesel is less dense at around 0.85 kg / l
  22. Apparently it was not a case of couldn't. but wouldn't because of traffic volume.
