  1. Does anybody know if Russell’s at South Walsham are open for business again? Last year they had no diesel and weren’t doing pumpouts, not sure if you could get water.
  2. Having read the original post again, it does seem to me that the ‘greeting’ was probably due to the wash being created not the speed, particularly as you were going through Horning at the time. The Ranger may have noticed the moored boats bobbing about a bit too much. Just my thoughts SteveO.
  3. We were doing a steady 5.5mph up the Waveney the other day and a Ranger overtook us!
  4. You might get deleted along with the jokes 🥺
  5. Ian - there are other Ians who are members. Plus one who is a moderator and more.
  6. A very good idea, gets my vote too.
  7. I believe the correct pronunciation of Aldeby is ‘Alderby’ and not ‘Aldby’, is that right?
  8. Kent water is dire, you’re so right. We were having to de-fur the kettle every couple of days until, around 20 years ago, we started using a Brita Water Filter. Not de-scaled the kettle at home since. However, up here on the boat, that’s a different story!

    Gas

Not sure we could carry 12kg Butane to the river from there!
  10. The met office is indicating that this unsettled weather is likely to continue for a while so no heatwave on the horizon as yet.

    Gas

Brooms are apparently stopping the supply of gas canisters once their current stock has gone.
  12. Last year at this time the weather was lovely I seem to remember and we were in our first lockdown, unable to enjoy our boats. I wonder how many people who rescheduled their hires from last year to this are regretting not getting a refund instead! It has finally stopped raining (as forecast by marshman) so I hope the temperature starts to creep up now. Looking much better for tomorrow.
  13. Boulters for us too. We did have to call them out several years ago now but I remember they came very quickly. I don’t think it matters how far away you roam, if there is a problem either Boulters or SSBY would find a way to get to you I reckon. Or find somebody who could.
  14. By the way Microbe - welcome to the forum.
  15. I think when you’ve hired for a number of years you have a fair idea of what suits you and how often you actually intend to use the boat. I am always glad that we bought a boat with a second sleeping cabin - that fast became our storeroom. It’s surprising what you find you need for an extended trip! Many people buy when they retire and are still active so I think careful thought is needed then as to how you might be in a few years time when wear and tear and aches and pains possibly creep in. What you can clamber up and down now may become a drawback later on. Of course, you can always change the boat but that means starting all over again to find what suits you.
  16. I think the statements above say it all.
  17. Couldn’t you have shore power installed on SK?
  18. It is rather ‘blue’ isn’t it! Certainly looks more like a residential property now than a pub. Good to have your wanderings back Cap’n, like others I have no idea what your comment on ‘burning bridges’ is all about.
  19. I noticed diesel was £1.35 a litre at Brooms - 🥺
  20. I’m hoping others will add to this thread. Anything goes! Here’s a story I read a few years back, it may even have been on this forum. Two friends went for a week’s sailing. One was always up early and brewed the morning tea. His mate commented one day that the morning tea always had a funny taste to it, sort of musty and rubbery, whilst the afternoon tea was ok. Turns out the morning tea brewer was keen on saving water and emptied his hot water bottle into the kettle each morning!
  21. Very high water at the moment. For the first time ever we got the steps out at Bramerton. (Might be something to do with age creeping up of course! ☹️)
  22. Hopefully the weather will have quietened down a bit. 🙏
  23. I don’t think I’ve seen one post where someone has said they won’t be getting the vaccine. I believe there are a lot of ‘anti-vaxers’ around so it’s nice that so many of us are either glad we’ve been jabbed or can’t wait to be. The news that the vaccine is helping stop transmission to an extent is great as well. The sooner everything is opened up again and operating as it should, the better.
