  1. No one told the shoot round us, as they were definitely out shooting yesterday. Snowflake Sailing club at Horning always have a special event on boxing Day. Yesterday they had two race series programmed at 11:15 and 12:15.. Normally it's a social event as well, but with covid restrictions and the bad weather I didn't attend this year... Normally I'd be sailing in the event, but the boat owner I sail with, is still unable to sail after an accident two years ago and my own boat isn't ready to sail yet but it's getting closer...
  2. Love the section on the flagship commander calling the other captains to a meeting, claiming he had a hunch the Graf Spee would be off the coast of South America.. when in actual fact, he would have received an encoded message, from Bletchley park via the Admiralty on the expected position of the Graf Spee. Also spotted the radar whirling away on the American USS Salem pretending to be the Graf Spee, the Salem being built in 1949 was a bit out of time period.
  3. 1971, one lesson sailing a wayfarer on the loch behind Eochar Sgoil (school) in the Outer Hebrides. 1980 an RAF Sailing Association sailing course, at Horning. Shortly after bought a laser and competed With Horning SC and Snowflakes SC, which also meant doing rescue boat duties. A few day boat hires between then and 2001 buy our own motorboat. Never had a problem helming, the only time of concern was the first time through Heigham bridge... Ps it's noticeable the emphasis these days the emphasis is on Potter rather than Heigham.. but very old maps say it's Heigham Potter marshes, and the Latham's area is Heigham Falgate

    Road Works 2021

Went through this morning, and there is a large patch in the road. Most of the signs and the cones on the road have disappeared..
  5. I've only Seen 1 scooter being ridden legally in Norwich.. The majority have been on pavements, both Legal Hire scooters and illegal private scooters. Those on the roads have been Illegal private scooters, including one several times outside Norwich North Police station.. I've also seen them illegally with two on board.. Many of those on them, are underage for a license.. Also came across one in Stalham which pulled out from in front of a parked transit van, which I was passing at the time.. lots of braking required and a good blast of the horn...

yep it was a nightmare getting through Coltishall yesterday and it was only 15:30 not rush hour. Norwich road was definitely still closed this morning.. I shall be examining maps shortly..

    Road Works 2021

Norwich rd is closed at the previously mentioned road works in Wroxham.. The official diversion is via Acle. Needless to say most cars are going through Coltishall, getting past the church, with the parked cars is causing big delays...
  8. Problem with battery Packs is it wouldn't be slide them out .. It would be Crane them out. A tesla pack weighs 1200 lbs (545kg)
  9. just tried to find out where the walkin centres for boosters are in Norfolk on the NHS Site... It says Kings Lynn and Bury st Edmunds/ Ipswich / Harleston in Suffolk Not quite local... But it's better than Sheffield they told me when I first tried to book.. Ps I got mine locally Saturday In Hoveton, through the surgery ringing me up to get one.
  10. many day boats think they have warp drive...

    Road Works 2021

It's 19:00 to midnight each day, on the days you said, there can be delays. But not totally closed, according to the roads web site. I think that means there could be closures for a few minutes at a time.. The traffic lights are however for the duration.. 8th to the 13th,,, Via Colt it is for me...

    Road Works 2021

yep i thought there would be, I went Via Coltishall yesterday as did a lot of other cars. I'll be doing the same after work today..
  13. How in the saint of woodies name does one vaccinate a woody? Take it by rail..... The Great Western Railway and probably the others, had carriage sheds to fumigate the Carriages... An entire carriage would be rolled in, all doors and windows open. They shut the door of the building. and let loose something that would be an illegal chemical today.. .. With horse hair seating and all natural cloths / wood etc.. you needed to fumigate the carriages to stop them being eaten by insects.. Don't know if there are any such buildings still in use...

Cadent are still digging holes in the Brickmakers roundabout.. New diggings in Wroxham on the main road by the funeral home, traffic light controlled
  15. Pandas, inject the cooling water into the exhaust inside the quiet box, it would require major engineering to take the water out, round the heating circuit then back inside the quiet box to be injected into the exhaust..
  16. There might be enough letters, if, they don't go skipping any more to appease Chinese Presidents.. The boating and tourist industry in the UK have had a boom year, they'd love it to continue as 2021, what they don't want is another 2020... I expect the tourists to slowly go back to holidays on Costa del booze, though it will probably be 2024 or 2025 before tourist levels return to normal.
  17. Unfortunately, you can't cover the boat with enough solar panels to go cruising every day, you'd need several days parked up recharging the batteries between not very long cruises.
  18. There aren't the charging points on the broads unless you like queueing in the summer. So we've got a 4kw generator . Very lucky to get a £10,000 generator with only 150hours on the clock for £2000. Batteries yes you can go lithium, but that's a very much more expensive solution, again I was lucky to get a set of lead acid with a lot of life left for their scrap value. Some generators don't like lithium they can't control the current correctly. With electric motor, all controls, 4 maximum size solar panels that could fit on the roof. It cost me around £10,000 to have fitted by a boat yard. But now I'd say £15,000. Range, the boat has about 500 amp hours of a 24 battery 48v pack that could take us from Horning to Potter but wouldn't get us back. So for a journey like that, the generator is immediately wound up. Saves battery cycles... Short journeys maybe a Mile or so, we just go under battery power and let the solar panels charge up the system. If you want a reasonable range of battery only cruising it's likely you'd need a 1000amp hour battery pack, with full charging facilities at home.
  19. It would probably be easier to build a river bypass, coming up river on the right, go into the fields behind the chalets going through the embankment of the new road bridge and extend the new road bridge.. Or Go left before the chalets close behind Herbert Woods and a new bridge under the A149 returning to the river beyond the old pumping station on the left toward Martham. Not that it matters anyway, cost and conservationists would stop any such scheme.
  20. I've spent hours battling with online banking, because someone put a block on my card, but the bank said they hadn't. Ironically the biggest problem was paying the banks own credit card with the debit card. I object to the fact it now takes a day off work to go see a bank because they have closed all the local banks, the nearest is now Hoveton but that's now closed at 14:00 and weekends. To get a full service you've got to go to Norwich. Even then you walk in, in either Norwich or Hoveton and someone tries to point you to a machine not a counter.. nope the card didn't work in their machines but did on their counter... As for defending the beaches with a pitchfork, in the 1970s and 1980s were were defending RAF radar sites, during the IRA attacks, armed with a pickax handle and a whistle...

In Saudi you see the birds all sat on the ground all in a row... What are they doing? Each bird is sheltering from the sun under the shadow of the head of a street light.. they aren't daft...

    Road Works 2021

I can find nothing on the Norwich road works site about the Brickmakers round about, all I can find was that there were emergency works there MId November, I guess they still haven't fixed it..
