  1. Sadly it's an entertainment show that happens to occasionally feature some railway modelling. The producers rule all in search of the biggest audience. Having read contributions from some of the competitors on railway Modelling Forums, There is railway modelling filmed, but most ends up on the cutting room floor in favour of the talking heads.. The Show has increased audiences for Model railway shows, and therefore the chance of some joining the hobby, so I went to the page to vote. the hobby needs all the publicity it can get..
  2. 84 million litres a day no longer extracted, I think that fen they are worried about might turn into another broad... 84 million litres a day divided by 3000 homes, so they reckon each home in Ludham is using 28,000 litres of water a day.. I think every home in Ludham has a swiming pool of it's own and is emptying it into the river every night... either that or someones got their maths wrong..
  3. The Great Model Railway Challenge, It's not the best model railway work but it is the only model railway show on TV . Vote for it here.. https://www.nationaltvawards.com/vote It's about half way through the 25 categories, you may not want to vote for the soaps etc..
  4. Oh B******r https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/anglian-water-pipeline-project-gets-under-way-1-6328923 7 months of traffic lights on the A149
  5. Thats not the fault of your laptop, the so Called "free" newspapers are slow to load because of all those adverts they carry down the sides. Called "Clickbait" they are designed to get you to click on them and investigate.. everytime you do the Newspaper gets a tiny part of a penny for each click. Each advert, is normally high resolution, called in from another site, all slowing your computer..
  6. Well, it's the Start of the Snowflake Sailing Club season, which opens with the Tri-Icycle race, a Mini 3 Rivers.. If winds and tides are perfect (some hope) they'll start at 10:00 at Horning Sailing Club, Sail down river to Acle Bridge NOT going under it, up to Potter Bridge NOT going under it, then Back to Horning. Expected number of boats about 30... However Low water is 11:24, and the forecast wind is a bit light. So the start could be at, the Horning Waterworks with the turning points at Upton dyke and Womack Dyke. The finish line will be positioned so everyone can get home in daylight..
  7. Wroxham railway bridge, the bridge over the railway will be closed 09:30- 15:30 21st Oct 2019. Diversion via salhouse Smallburgh A149 to North walsham, will be closed, 09:00- 16:00 14-15th Oct 2019 diversion via Mundesley!!!!
  8. or chapter 7 of the boat safety regulation checks, near the start. . You need a closed cell foam, so the foam doesn't absorb gas. Vermiculite is used to insulate steel chimney liners from the walls and is probably a safe substitute but would be a pain every time you lift the tank out it would collapse into the bottom and you'd be upside down, scooping it all ou,t to get the next tank in..
  9. You can go the other way and foil little things... a foiling Optimist..
  10. The problem with that is that many species will regrow from a piece left on the ground particularly willow..
  11. Just how do you avoid a competitors foils when you can't see them under water? The rules implications are just part of the problem. You'd need the foils to be totally removable to be towed from venue to venue, if the hire craft can't avoid other boats they certainly won't miss foils sticking out.. No foiled boat would work around Horning, every time they go behind a tree or house they would crash down into the water. Even most planing hulls don't get to plane on the broads, not enough clear wind to work. If you built a foiled cruiser every time you went past the trees or club house on Wroxham broad you would become a displacement dragging large amounts of foil to no effect. You would need the foils locked down before rising onto them, for much of the broads you'd be aground... and the weed is just getting worse.. I think that covers why we won't be seeing foils on the broads.. Except for the odd international Moth on a big Broad when the wind is in the right direction..
  12. A note from elsewhere said they had run out of materials, packed up, taken the lights away, and driven off....... Leaving the barriers up in one direction....!!!! (they were taken down later)
  13. The day went well, we seemed to have a good attendance, but won't have the full figures till next week. I got home around 19:00, this was because I had a trailer load of trestle tables to deliver back to the club so left the hall earlier, while others were hoovering the hall before relaying 100+chairs + stage for tomorrow's church services. I'm not involved with layout selection, but I think we had a good range of layouts this year. It's always difficult getting the balance of layouts right from what is available and what we can afford. Layout owners do not charge for their time or the layout, but shows cover their costs. So bringing in a multi-operator layout from a long way can get expensive with van hire, hotel rooms, and meals to pay for. . The only incident we had was our own chairman while operating our layout of the year, tripping over a chair and hitting the floor rather hard. He's bruised but OK. The church hall rebuild is delayed and only some external work will be done for next year so... Next week we'll have a debrief then they'll start on the 2020 show, although some layouts are already booked for our show same place, October 3rd 2020. Before then we'll have another open day on I think May's second bank holiday Sunday 2020.
  14. Its just after 05:00, so I'm up and around before heading for our show at 06:00, our doors open at 07:00 for the traders and exhibitors to get in,. Apart from our club members helping them in, we have different jobs to do, me I've got PAT testing on any electrics with an out of date sticker. Others will put up our signs down the road, put banners out, laying out the admissions area, and the Aylsham ladies will be cooking up bacon butties plus tea and coffee for everyone. The doors open at 10:00, we have an old bus running between the Bure Valley Railway car park and the hall for free. At 16:00 we then have 3 hours , to get everyone out, clean the floors , and put 100+ chairs and a stage back in place for the Sunday morning church service.
  15. And to see more effort that has been put in. A bump up for our show in Aylsham next Saturday..
  16. The BSS is the BSS where ever you are. It covers all boats.. http://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/boat-examination-and-certification/private-boats/ Oops didn't see the other answers.
  17. There are road works on the Stalham Bypass, just the Potter side of the Tescos turning to Stalham. Meanwhile... The contract has been signed for the A47 Burlingham dual carrigeway to link the Norwich southern bypass with the Acle bypass. And to link the other end of the Norwich southern bypass to the East Dereham bypass. And also some other bits of the A47 out of County, but before Peterborough. All to be completed by 2024..
  18. Well the Great Model railway challenge has had it's second show, Better in terms of more railway work. But still too much emphasis on "effects" which is is a worry, in that too many vistors to our show above may expect to see them..
  19. The only place you can eat at in Wroxham, is that Liberty place..( I don't know if The Shed does food) There is quite a choice over the bridge in Hoveton though..

  25. Both the Hoveton-Coltishall road and the Hoveton-Horning roads are now showing they are open. The last of the abatoir in Stalham has been demolished there are just heaps of rubble left on site.. I suppose that will be it there until they build the new entrances..
