  1. If there is a show Next year, MBA, the show was meant originally to be bi-annual although they did three years on the run to start, they didn't have one last year. Siddy, the flying object towing the banner I think was a weight shift microlight like this.. It was accompanied by a biplane...
  2. Thanks for updating RumPunch...
  3. There are new Road works on the Wroxham Road, I was dodging traffic at the time of going round the NDR roundabout so I didn't read the full sign, But I believe the exit for Wroxham off the old outer ring road is closed with divertions via Coltishall road. And a heads up for future real chaos, As you leave wroxham the ramp up to the railway bridge as it curves onto the bridge is collapsing slowly, a definate dip has formed and is getting bigger daily, the road surface is cacking up. With access to do the work limited. I suspect that they'll have to close the bridge entirely...
  4. No there's a whole 30 ft to the left across to the left hand bank not being used by us..
  5. Thats stressful not enjoyable...Too b******y cold for me, though I have sailed down that way... Around gull island pond, ( as long as Wroxham broad but thinner in the shape of a "P") on the Falklands In a Norfolk built wayfarer...
  6. I'd agree 100% with that, sailing off in the sea for hours on end without changing course was most boring.
  7. I think one of the problems fishing above potter bridge is there are remarkably few places you can reach to fish from the bank other than the Thurne itself. The trinity broads are fairly restricted as well. Most of the banks of the Hickling, Martham, and horsey broads are fish conservation areas. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/news-and-publications/publications-and-reports/conservation-publications-and-reports/water-conservation-reports/50.-Angle-on-the-Broads.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjoztm0y_baAhWQZFAKHaBKABgQFjACegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw0KEVQWGxcULjA8ivMmhY86
  8. Oh no it doesn't, it's not just single handed dinghies out there, how about a nice sit down and sail single hander. They have raced at Horning and Wroxham.. I'm currently rebuilding my own sit in single hander but not of this class..the above is the international 2.4 metre. Oh we've had 100 year olds race at Horning, 80 plus is not unusual, I spent 5 years racing with a 70+ year old.
  9. It was, it was originally developed for US police, but escaped into CB lingo. And of course when CB came over to the UK it came too, helped by some very silly films.! Few know the first ten numbers let alone the rest. As I've not used CB in 30 years I don't remember most of it, though I found one of my two old CB sets the other day. I'm intending to fit one to the landrover and one to the motorboat.

  11. I'd agree with Philosophical, however, as a sailor most of the time. The problem comes when the sailor needs the whole river to sail in as he's tacking or due to wind shadow needs the fishermans side of the river. Many times I've had fishermen shout at me saying you can use the rest of the river (along with other words). As to Hire boats or private boats navigating at night, would I report them? Probably not if they are behaving sensibly. I have reported a dory about speeding along at night, the boys, dad wasn't happy when I told him...
  12. Technically it doesn't, as long as the motor or sailing boat is within speed limits. It's up to the angler to remove his lines Broads regulation 29(3) applies Broads regulation 29 (3) a(1) Subject to paragraph (2) no person shall conduct any fishing or any associated activity from a power-driven or sailing vessel which is underway or cause or permit any net or fishing line to hang from such a vessel into the water whilst the vessel is underway. (2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to a vessel which is: (a) engaged in the handling of licensed eel nets; or (b) under the control of the National Rivers Authority in connection with its fishery duties. (3) Any person fishing from a boat or the bank shall show reasonable consideration to any other person using the navigation area and shall ensure that his rod or line does not obstruct the passage of a vessel along a channel. I would add it's very hard to see a black or dark green rod with line that's designed to be invisible, when having to be aware of all the other boats around..
  13. I thought the NDR was finished with but,,, http://www.edp24.co.uk/motoring/concerned-driving-instructor-shows-what-you-shouldn-t-do-on-the-ndr-roundabouts-1-5507742
  14. You've just missed Horning Sailing Clubs and NBYC try a boat day. Other clubs will be having them throughout the country in May and June. If not wait till next year, Horning will have try a boat day Next year in May or June and it will cost you nothing.. for a half hour trip (with skipper), in one of these.. picture by Holly Hancock who will probably will be there. If you want to learn sailing contact Horning sailing club https://horning-sailing.club/tccourses.php. if you join HSC (£115 a year for a family, £77 single person) then the cost of the courses on a Thursday evening may to September is relatively little..
  15. Not quite, as the lighting requirements are slightly different between sailies and smokies.. Broads regulations 35 and 36... (1) Subject to paragraph (2) the master of a power-driven vessel underway shall cause to be exhibited: (a) a masthead light; (b) a second masthead light abaft of and higher than that in (a) except that a master of a vessel less than 50 metres (164 feet) in length shall not be obliged to exhibit such light but may do so; (c) sidelights; (d) a sternlight. (2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1): (a) the master of a power-driven vessel less than 12 metres (39 feet 4 inches) in length may cause to be exhibited in lieu of the lights prescribed in paragraph (1) an all-round white light and sidelights, and (b) the master of a power-driven vessel less than 7 metres (23 feet) in length may cause to be exhibited in lieu of the lights prescribed in paragraph (1) of this Byelaw an allround white light and shall, if practicable, also cause to be exhibited sidelights. (1) The master of a sailing vessel underway shall cause to be exhibited: (a) sidelights; and (b) a sternlight. (2) The master of a sailing vessel underway may, in addition to but not in substitution for the lights prescribed in paragraph (1) cause to be exhibited at or near the top of the mast, where they can best be seen, two all-round lights in a vertical line, the upper being red and the lower green. (3) The master of a manually propelled vessel or a quanted vessel underway which is 4.5 metres (14 feet 9 inches) or more in length shall cause to be exhibited the lights in paragraph (1) or shall cause to be exhibited an all-round white light or two white lights giving the same coverage. Power-driven 35 Vessels Underway Sailing Vessels 36 Manually Propelled Vessels and Quanted Vessels Underway 17 (4) The master of a manually propelled vessel or a quanted vessel underway which is less than 4.5 metres (14 feet 9 inches) in length shall ensure that there is ready at hand in the vessel an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light and shall cause such torch or lantern to be exhibited in sufficient time to prevent collision. I've made provision for a small fold down mast on the forward cabin roof, on top of which will be the all round white light, shielded so it doesn't shine down into the helms eyes..
  16. In days gone by even though I lived only 3 miles from Wroxham, I used to go down to the sailing club, get the boat out, sail to Wroxham, do the shopping, have something from one of the takeaways, while sitting on the boat, and then sail back. We have done the same in the motorboat and gone to Potter to La Thems, which is nearer to home than the Sailing club...
  17. Only two photos of hire craft,, As reported above Burnham not Barton. The rest are mostly sailing clubs , Horning, Wroxham (ok NBYC), Eaton School. I believe technically the photo of an allcomers race at Horning is an incorrect statement, they are preparing to start as the course is off to the right up river.. And an incorrect statement that the broads were designated a National Park. However I did like the photos, I recognise several of the Horning Boats, if the photos were clearer maybe the people as well. I hope the broads sailing companies are much more successful than the reporter..
  18. 4. Lighting requirements (113 to 116) 113 You MUST ensure all sidelights and rear registration plate lights are lit between sunset and sunrise use headlights at night, except on a road which has lit street lighting. These roads are generally restricted to a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) unless otherwise specified use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226). Night (the hours of darkness) is defined as the period between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise). Laws RVLR regs 3, 24, & 25, (In Scotland - RTRA 1984 sect 82 (as amended by NRSWA, para 59 of sched 8))
  19. Springsong, if it was tall thin as a rake man helping you across, it was Kevin Saunders, chairman of the 3 rivers race committee. If it was someone older, heavier and losing his hair it was me. Kevin does read the web site but I'll let him know anyway. Islander, when we have a public event, any special club event or a disabled club member arrives, just behind the metal bridge, we set up the pontoon floating bridge. With assistance a wheelchair can get across, some did, many prams and a couple of electric chariots also went over yesterday. So we can get you afloat even if you don't go for a sail!!!! please visit next time we will get you across... Our regatta week 30th July-3rd August is an open event, you would be welcome come down and visit then. You could ask for Q but I'll probably be out on the river in a rescue boat except lunch time. Come sit in the sun out at the front of the club and age a cup of tea. The tide dictates the slope of the onto and off of the pontoon, but there are handrails. I did see some fuzz come in my direction but whether or not it was wild I don't know. They turned away before they reached me anyway. I did see some extremely good motor boat driving during the set up, two big motor boats came down river tied side by side. When they approached the Swan Green they slowed, the boats spun round, and reversed straight in between two other boats. No sound of bow thrusters. It shows the skill of a broads boatman controlling that lot from one motorboat. The club and almost all other sailing clubs hold a try sailing day each year even if not attached to a boat show. If there is no boat show next year we will still hold the open day.. Hopefully we'll get a few new club members and new trainee's ( children and adults) for our sailing we have both dinghies and keelboats for training. I believe they can arrange powerboat training. You have to join the club, plus there are small fees for the training. I spent some time discussing the club, it's history, our fees, our sailing school with various visitors. As well attracting people in for the sailing, tea and cake. And finally I'd like to thank all those who thanked me for the visit, many more did so this year than before...
  20. Afternoon all, I hope you enjoyed the show, certainly the sailing club had record numbers of visitors. 15 large cakes were divided into portions and sold, along with tea coffee burgers, sausages and and array of other stuff. The try sailing boats were fully in use all day.. I'm extremely tired, acting as gate guard, or rounder up of visitors. Time for a rest...
  21. Peering into the web cam stuff has started arriving...
  22. Yes an Isolating transformer is the best way, But I find the price of around £500, is a bit expensive for me against £20 for a home built isolator..
  23. Earth... the river.. you should have somewhere to drain the current away , any metal such as the engine is earthed anyway. If your inverter goes live to case you need the earth to cause everything to trip out.
  24. The Earth, on a house is directly or indirectly connected to the ... Earth. So the Earth on a boat should be connected to the nearest equivalent . The best way is a direct connection to a sacrificial anode on the boat, This would be connected the negative (on negative earthed boats) side of your DC electrics, which should be connected to the engine / drive gear which also connects your boat to the water. so some installations just connect to the earth bolt on the engine. The above is of course why you need a Galvanic isolator, as you form a loop between your boat and the boat moored along side through water and the shore power electrics. Without isolation one of you will very rapidly start having his prop etc eaten away..
