    Towing

How long do you want the list? I've rescued far more non competitors over the years than competitors, mostly motor boats but including rowing boats , canoes, sailing hire and private, day boats through to those that now are too long to be newly registered today. About the only things I haven't rescued are broads tours and wherries. Probably because they are professional crews. I've even towed back windsufers who couldn't sail against the wind, while I was single handed sailing a Wayfarer!!! ( That was in the Falklands) (I did witness one of Broads tours aground in Wroxham broad, but I was without boat that day.)
  2. One odd thing about the Drascombes is they are built well inland, they were built in the village much of my family comes from Ludgershall, Wiltshire, on a new industrial estate in sight of the school I earlier attended. But they have now moved to Nether Wallop in Hampshire all of 13 miles away and still well inland..

    Dog Poo Bags

This happend to well known Crufts Judge (Peggy Grayson IIRC), She was out walking her dogs when her Harrods carrier bag was stolen, she did hope the thieves put their hands in first without looking.... I followed a car with a dog in it down the coltishall road a few day ago, hanging from the tow hook was a.... little black plastic bag witth a small load in it.
  4. I missed this one which is somewhat importtant Wroxham road will be closed to all traffic from 6th October to the 16th... http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/wroxham-road-to-close-for-ten-days-to-allow-for-ndr-construction-1-5206752
  5. Further developments http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/politics/options-for-missing-link-of-norwich-northern-distributor-road-to-be-revealed-1-5207896 I Also note, the Wroxham road roundabout is starting to be formed, it has an interesting slope on it, so you would arrive from the Postwick end going down hill on the roundabout. Could be interesting in the frost and snow....
  6. Nice pictures and nice weather, although according to the Seaweed inspectors on TV it isn't an indian summer unless the good weather occurs in October or November..
  7. No, though one Morning Being still very tired I drove towards the motor cycle shed at work (3 sided and a roof) unfortunately I was in the car... I did stop in time though... My parents did move while I was at school in inverness, but did tell me where they went, So instead of getting the bus to Inverness station to catch the train to Kyle of Lochalsh to catch the ferry then bus then ferry then car to get home. I had to get the Bus then train to Edinburgh then bus then walk to get to the new home...
  8. I was born in Somerset but choose to live in Norfolk. In between I've lived in... Cyprus (3 places) Wiltshire Northern Ireland. The outer Hebrides ( twice or many times at least depending how you measure it) Inverness, (once or many times depending on how you measure it.) West Lothian. (Twice) Milton Keynes ( twice) Norfolk (4 times) where I now have lived for longer than anywhere else and in this house for longer than anywhere else. Somerset ( 4 times) Lincolnshire Northumberland The Falklands ( twice) Yorkshire ( twice) and.... Essex, Chelmsford once for 6 months... I've probably missed some out...
  9. One point abut the BBC is it's technically NOT a state broadcaster, If it was you would never see anything on there against the governent. It's an independant broadcaster, funded by a state orgainised fee.
  10. I believe its on the river bank opposite the Len Funnel / Emblem yard, which the B.A. gave up, then was leased by the Ferry. Who's got the lease now I don't know. The question of how can it be enforced has alway applied, when the man comes round for the money, at a pub and you refuse to pay what can they do. Casting you adrift is probably a more serious offence than non payment... by the time they get an order to nail a writ to the mast you'd be long gone...
  11. Many, many, years ago I had an after school and Saturday job in a family run Shoe and clothing shop in a large village. The owner was very wise to the women ( normally teenagers / low twenties) who used to come in on a Saturday morning and buy a new pair of shoes. Then try to return them on the Monday.. The first thing he would do is take the shoes out and look at the soles... You can't hide even an evenings wear ...
  12. Sadly another class I belong too, has problems trying to prise that class out of Wroxham broad, to go as far as Horning for their Nationals!!!
  13. I think there is a T missing from Can't!! 1, Yes you can fit TV ariels to telescopic masts, Boat yards don't because you would find the ariels littering the broads hanging from all the trees that lean over the broads and it's another thing to lose going under the bridges. Height is always a great help in reception 2, Most TV ariels are Directional, you get better reception that way, putting them on a mast won't help going out to realign the ariel that much. Then it may make it worse, as it would amplify any rolling of your vessel as the ariel would then look at sky and river as you rolled.
  14. Yes I do, But not every day, I haven't used the infected version. It's a usefull programme.
  15. or to the left.... or is that the right....
  16. interesting terms about alcohol!!
  17. I had similar, I went for a passport to Peterbrough just after a strike by the staff. The queues were out of the door, I went straight to the door showed a piece of paper and was escorted straight in. I was out again in 15 minutes... Just like the piece of paper I used to carry, but never had to use, it's meaning roughly was Dear Mister Police Man help this man if he requests it / do as he says (there were telephone numbers and contact details on the paper).
  18. I think IF the electric cars come along by 2040, And they do something about diesel commercial vehicles. Then the biggest problem is going to be obtaining fuel. The Diesel fuel distribution system will be almost gone and then getting fuel for Boat Diesels will become hugely expensive..
  19. I must admit I've been slowly moving to rechargables for my large garden. For noise reduction, and the fact you press a button and it goes. My lawn mower is four stroke anyway, I just wish they'd fit better silencers... They do make electric ride on mowers though https://www.lawnmowersdirect.co.uk/product/husqvarna-ride-on-battery-lawnmower not cheap either.. However that story is from Australia and not really relevant here. New conventional 2 stroke outboards and motor vehicles have been banned in the EU for years .
  20. I don't know of any food shops that are shut for the winter so I think provisions are not a problem. Except for the obvious "C to NY" fortnight most boat yards are open except they may be on reduced hours. Some Cafes and restaurants may have a month or so closed if they are in private ownership, while the owners go on holiday. The Pubs will be open, but again may have reduced hours for meal serving. Oh I haven't winter cruised, I just live here, I must get down to the boat again and do some more work...
  21. I can see the NDR being completed around Norwich, as when the current section opens there will be many who drive to the Taverham end and then turn the small local roads to the A47 into rat runs. Also much of the traffic that comes from the north may choose to go round to the A140 Cromer road and then enter the city. Drive down to the old Sweet Briar / A47 Dereham road and head for the A47 that way. I think the council are anticipating this with their redevelopment of the Sweet Briar / Dereham road roundabout. Being stuck in the traffic jams that occur at the Wroxham / Hoveton Bridge/ Roys Traffic lights, many times a year, I have always wanted a bypass. I doubt bypassing the Bridge will make that much difference to the pressure already on North Norfolk Development.
  22. err not quite... http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/politics/push-to-complete-missing-link-on-norwich-northern-distributor-road-and-join-it-to-a47-to-west-of-city-1-4600824
  23. The council are meeting today to discuss opening the A140 Cromer road to Taverham A1067 section of the NDR next Month. Meanwhile they have announced rebuilding the Sweet Briar Road, Dereham Road , Roundabout to start shortly. As mentioned elsewhere the Road outside the Swan Ingham has a closure order until the 2nd of October, I suspect that will be extended and may be replaced by some sort of temporary lights for the next couple of years..
  24. More updates on The Swan, http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/watch-footage-reveals-shocking-extent-of-ingham-swan-fire-damage-1-5195126 I note in the text it says the traffic closure is at least until 2nd Oct....
  25. You can plainly see, private boats abandoned / looking abandoned around the broads so No private boats don't get all the love they need. I would guess, Most Hire boats get most of their attention during the winter when they are out of use. If self maintained, Most Private boats, will get most of their attention in the summer , as we are not being paid to freeze our....
