  1. Yacht stations, I think that quite nicely backs up my position. I think the only reason "train stations" came about was reporters / newsreaders trying to save one syllable off of their reports. I saw a remake of Colditz not long ago, the British officer said train stations on that, which he would never have done, but would have called it a railway station.
  2. Every where is attempting to get a 3rd Crossing, last Night Mike was in Great Yarmouth doing a piece on them getting a 3rd crossing...
  3. Which brings us to an interesting point there must be thousands of people in Norwich alone, using this stuff to clean their driveways . From there it flow into the road drains which are often not connected to the sewerage works but straight to rivers and streams...

    Meg

1 salt water is heavier that fresh water, therefore when the tide starts flowing in the water beneath is flowing in while the water on top will flow out (at first) 2, The water doesn't take 4.5 hour to reach Potter from Yarmouth , it pushes the water In front of it while raising the level. Except when you go from a high air pressure period lowering the north Sea, to a low air pressure raising the North sea. Then enough Salt water flows up the system to produce the fish kills we get around Potter. 3 I've been at Horning (Technically Hoveton) above Black Horse broad, in a rescue boat being pushed by the tide upriver at 1 MPH against the wind. 4, At Potter Bridge, the tide is sufficiently strong coming in to Make it very difficult to paddle against it. 5, The tidal cycles on the broads are very approximate, I always allow for an extra Hour tide going out than coming in, which allows the rain water to escape. 6, Then you have the air pressure to contend with, and that is compounded with the wind blowing down the north sea. if the get Low Air pressure, with the wind blowing down the north sea and heavy rain. then Norfolk is in trouble as it's the recipe for floods.. A bit of an officious way of putting it but it's the only way my brain keeps a clue as what going on...
  5. Traditionally a bus station is where omnibuses become stationary. Railway stations are where railway trains become stationary, not camel trains or trains of thought... Similarly unlike the duty womble said on the news the other day the When Peppercorn A1 class Tornado, Visited Great Yarmouth she is a railway Locomotive, not a train as the idiot said.. and not a road locomotive.. Also technically a railway locomotive is not a railway engine, because the engine on a railway locomotive is the pistons, cylinders and valve gear, which is mounted on a chassis with a boiler and all the other gubbins to make the Locomotive..
  6. Hmm, it didn't say that on the bottle I bought, But as I said I'll take the fenders off and once they've been cleaned, wash them off before returning them to the boat...
  7. Patio Magic is a chemical for cleaning the green off of concrete patios, it says on the bottle it's bio-degradeable. I saw it on a forum somewhere it being recommended for cleaning boat covers, so I decided to try it on my decks and hull. The north side of the boat used to go green within 3 months of washing, I've tried detergents / bleach / expensive boat cleaning stuff. But none has worked as well as patio magic and I only used it at less than half the recommended strength. It's been over 9 months now and only the bits I think I may have missed are showing any sign of green... Next time down, I'm intending to take the fenders and their ropes off and washing them down with it...
  8. It certainly was on my boat until I discovered patio magic....
  9. With my back getting forward in a 4ft high cabin to sit or otherwise manoeuver would be a major problem. It certainly would be a hard sell in the hire fleet not having standing head room everywhere.
  10. The problem with Multihulls is the centre of the floor is too high, maybe a minimum of 1ft for clearance above the water. So if you add human height plus a little for the cabin roof and you are looking at a minimum of 8ft airdraft, that would stop you at a lot of the bridges..
  11. There are two ways of making a low wash Hull; One is like sailing boats to have a smooth hull and create as little resistance to the water as possible, The other is to have ridges on the hull to "consume" the bow wave. The ridged boats are likely to be more noisy from wavelets when trying to sleep. The maximum waves produced are likely to be just before getting on the plane, the hull at that point is moving the most amount of water out of the way. Once planning you are on the water not in it, this is why something like Maidie, Not designed to plane, would make a huge hole in the water at speed. The Elysian I have is of course a planning Hull, there are versions with enough power to do so. This does mean that they are not as smooth through the water at displacement spends.
  12. Easy, take it on a low loader 'cos the low loader will grind to a halt on the WroXham bridge, I have absolutely no idea why I typed Horstead- Coltishall instead of Hoveton -WroXham My brain is not working this morning...
  13. I've just for the first time read this thread, Reading your comments bring the thread to life. Especially having spent so much time on the A47 /A17 in my life. We were at one point in the thread just a few feet away from each other, you were stuffing yourself in the pleasure boat, while I, and 3 three others, were sat in a motor boat on the end of the Sailing clubs pontoons counting them round the buoy on the 3RR. If you are there next year come over for a chat!! Your wood work is a better standard than anything I have the patience to achieve, which is one of the reasons I've a fibreglass boat....
  14. I've been under Horstead-Coltishall bridge maybe half a dozen times in the Elysian 27CC and not had a problem but that's probably because I'm used to Potter Heigham Bridge. I've been under Potter Bridge maybe 50 times, but most of them paddling furiously during the 3 Rivers race. It did mean I was very familiar with the underside of the bridge, before I attempted it with the Elysian. So far I've not had a problem with the Elysian other than a day boat deciding to come charging towards me with the tide, as I had just got the nose under the bridge. So I just cut the power and drifted back out, as I knew He wouldn't be able to stop. I have gone under the Potter bridge backwards at an unearthly hour of the morning!!! We had just paddled through against the tide, during the 3RR when the mast hanging over the stern the other side of the bridge got hit by a wayfarer. We had a man on the bows, he got thrown overboard and with the loss of propulsion we were washed back upstream through the bridge..

    Fenders.

This is why being moored in Horning on the river, I have the 18 inch diameter fenders on the sides. Unfortunately I'm now moored bow in, and the stern fenders are only 4 inches in diameter. Hence I noticed last weekend a big black mark across the stern and crazing on the paintwork at day boat rubber edging height. Time to get bigger fenders for the stern I think...
  16. Train station? No such thing it's a railway station and has been for the last 200 years... good film clip though...

    Fenders.

I have 1ft wide side decks and 18 inch diameter fenders there is no where to store the fenders.....
  18. My only two comments, You can almost certainly guess the lawyers will have advised Mr Barrett not to say anything to the MCA with the court case coming up. The court not jailing Mr Barrett was probably, to not punish the injured family by removing their source of income, their father / husband.
  19. Sadly the entire joystick is a single piece of plastic. One day I will find a way of dressing it up, but it's a long way down the list of priorities...
  20. Sadly your balls are too big....... The "throttle" on my boat is a tiny joystick..... The weight of your balls would put my boat in permanent full reverse
  21. The answer to the question was unfortunately I was at home and all TV was wiped out for days, which when you haven't seen UK TV for months was somewhat annoying . As for 9/11 I was in Saudi with CNN on, and I saw the 2nd aircraft go in live. The Next day the Saudis announced is a was all done by the Japanese red hand gang, and the British aircrew refused to fly as the Saudi aircrew were cheering that event...
  22. My most common place for seeing Kingfishers is in the entrance to Black Horse Broad, although I have seen them at quiet times all the way down to the sailing club. There used to be a couple that would sit on the booms of the Boats moored at the sailing club and fish in the back dyke...
  23. The problem with just dredging the channel would be the soft mud would promptly flow into the channel, so you either keep dredging the channel or do some dredging in the surrounding area. Also if they DO NOT EVER dredge outside the channel, the mud will build up until it eventually becomes dry land. Then those weeds of special interest will have no where to go!!
  24. Having had a good wade through the Broads Regs there appears to be no requirement for lights in Bad light conditions due to rain fog or snow only for before sunrise and after sunset. There is a regulation for sound signals in Fog Regs 25 and 50, ie. You should make a sound signal at not less than 2 minute intervals. Fog... fog is defined by the Meteorological office is mist thick enough to prevent visibility at 100Metres (328ft) Smoke and emissions are Broads Reg 84, The master of a vessel shall not permit the vessel to emit smoke or fumes or make any noise or nuisance which gives reasonable grounds for annoyance to any other person. Noise is Broads Reg 85, The master of a vessel shall ensure that no musical instrument, television or radio receiver or any other apparatus aboard the vessel is used in such a way that it causes nuisance or gives reasonable grounds for annoyance to any other person.
  25. Which is why we don't want it to be a national park because then conservation trumps everything
