  1. Morning Awl, My final Bump for this year as it all starts tomorrow. I'll be out in on a watching out for all those in Sorry for causing any chaos to you if you pass us during the week. Here's your view of the rive Monday to Friday ...............................
  2. Throw the stick Dad, throw the Stick , I know that one , yes we have a Border Collie..
  3. In the case of my failed update to Windows 10 Creators Edition, Rebooting my machine didn't work , it just came up each time saying preparing windows, and then put you into a safe mode with no access to the windows account, Outlook lost all connection to the outside world although IE / the edge allowed internet access.
  4. We've only a couple of moths ago turned off a machine at work with DOS 6.2 on it. no one had the budget required to re-write the software that was running on it so it stay DOS until the whole system became obsolete. Many things like hospital scanners all round the world are running on XP with no chance of changing...
  5. I had to roll back to the previous version of win 10, as it lost many items off my desk top, and outlook didn't work. I guess had they not stopped updating numbers this would have been windows 11, and well have to wait for Win12 for them to get it right as usual.
  6. B*****y soft Southerners
  7. That is a type of condition anyone sailing regularly on the rivers would be familiar with, racing or not. Especially when you don't have an engine, it's a problem those who use engines all the time or fishermen on the bank don't always appreciate..
  8. Another minor point is you are not allowed to fish from a motorboat (or sailing boat that is underway. (Broads regulation 29.1) Enjoy your fishing

    Tv Aerial

That is perfectly good aerial, what you need is height to get over trees and buildings between you and Tacolneston. The longer the pole you can use the better..
  10. When a motorboat overtakes a sailing boat, its' bow wave first pushes the sailing boat away, then the other side of the bow wave the sailing boat gets sucked in closer. Therefore a big cruiser can shake a small sailing boat all over the place. If the conditions are really only just sailable then a motor cruiser on the other bank, will shake a small boat about. The more the speed and the more the bow wave the worse it can be. Over the years we do get used to being shaken about and countering the bow wave. Although we do prefer more space, it is not uncommon to have dayboats (especially) and motor cruisers going past us at 10 inches and occasionally less. The biggest problem is the hireboaters who have not been acclimatised to the width of their boat and go for a gap that isn't there. Or the Dayboaters hammering their way past to the next pub.. The most common question when I'm on rescue boat duty from the tourists is "how far to the next pub.".
  11. Oh I don't know I've many many years ago, capsized right in front of Albion, I had to hold the laser mast / sail down while they sailed over the top avoiding me... Providing that is over the fenders then that is often the case... Though beware the suction of the motorboats hull, something you don't often get when a sailing boat is overtaking a motorboat.
  12. A nice of motoring there, strange to see Torty so far back in the fleet (white boat 21) he and Liz normally do better that that! Not very crowded though.
  13. if you're sailing on the broads 10 inches, is well clear... It's too crowded for anything else..
  14. Which is where I mentioned (maybe on this thread) often a motor boat over reacts when seeing a sailing boat approach, expecting it to turn at 10ft away when the sailing boat is likely to turn 10 inches away...
  15. You can't pass in front of a motorboat while the overtaking manoeuvre is taking place you would have to go through the motorboat. Once the sailing boat has overtaken and can physically pass in front of the overtaken boat, bylaw 15 no longer is in force..
  16. I must admit I have 2 foot diameter Fenders on my Motorboat as it is moored on the river in Horning.. They have been useful as I have seen motorboats bouncing their way down the riverbank with out the assistance of Sailing craft...
  17. I will when I next see the current 3RR organiser speak to him and get him to include in his pre race briefing the responsibilities of the competitors to other boats. But like those who cheat their way round the course it's very difficult to enforce..
  18. All boats competing, craft in Any sailing race, in any Club Belonging to the Royal Yachting Association (HSC Does) are required to have third party insurance. It is a requirement written into the 3 Rivers Race rules. Sailing racing insurance is remarkably cheap, quotes taken from Newton-Crum not the cheapest company but one of the most used. Third party(£5,000,000 coverage including all racing risks A topper dinghy £20 A kestrel dinghy £40 yes A broads cruiser will be more, but not extortionately so.. if you can afford the boat you can afford the insurance..
  19. I agree with the above comments of the cricket and the Cycling. Over the weekend I drove to Scotland and Back.. 18.5 hours driving in 27 hours... on the way back it rained, starting this side of Beattock summit, and continued all the way through to Newark. Just north of Donny, the rain was so heavy on the A1M, I was down to 40MPH, and considering slowing, in the left hand lane with Nothing overtaking me. Now that's a British Summer... Forecast for the next fortnight sunshine and showers, time to get the waterproofs ready for regatta week...
  20. Here's my comments, 1, There are idiots on both sides. 2, Even in a sailing regatta, all the sailing boats going through don't belong to the regatta. 3, As with the motorboats, Not all the sailing boats are crewed by local people with local knowledge of the rules or are used to sailing with anything other than competitors on their stretch of water and if they've only sailed out on a huge lake or the Sea they really are struggling... 4, When sailing on the helm or as crew, if the wind is too strong, you have no spare hands to direct or to wave back. 5, When sailing all day you really can get really P*****d off with every motorboat expecting you to wave back.. 6, I often see motor boats over reacting to a sailing boat approaching, that is the Motorboat is expecting the sailor to turn away 10 ft away, the sailing boat is expecting to turn 10 inches away... 7, I also have a motor boat and have never had a problem going, through others sailing on their own or another regatta. But this is because having sailed for many years, I can often see what they are going to do next, long before they decide to do it.. it's a matter of experience..
  21. The Coltishall road NDR roundabout, is..... A roundabout, you now pass through both sides, the lanes aren't marked yet and there are plenty of cones still around. The Island needs Landscaping, and the signs are not yet up.
  22. I view of another thread (i'm only just catching up I've spent many hours on motorways over the last few days) Here, bumped back to the top, is the Advice given for Motor boats trying to get through the Horning Regatta which starts Saturday!!!! Oh it's Wroxham week this week, they request you keep to the edges if they are out racing. but be prepared to stop if a vast hoard starts charging down their start line towards you as you cross it.
  23. One of the things that I find amusing is everyone (not just here on this site) attacking Chris Evans but not Gary Linaker, who per hour is earning a lot more than CE.
