  1. Welcome along! Do you have any holidays booked back on the Broads at the moment?
  2. You get used to that but I always look for the yellow post and the state of the tide whenever we drive over Breydon Bridge. How are you liking the caravan?
  3. Pubs are so overrated other than to save me having to cook a meal! Don’t see the attraction myself. Give me a nice quiet mooring away from any traffic and too many people, somewhere to watch the world go by.
  4. I would just forget the pub! Langley Dyke is a lovely first night mooring from Brundall.
  5. Always enjoyed lunch at the Wayford Bridge Inn but haven’t been there for a while so many thanks for the update. We have always found their food to be amongst the best offered by the local eateries. Fantastic photos too. Should be some great entries if we have a calendar this year.
  6. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this boat. Herbert Woods is one yard we’ve never hired from. But I can confirm that Ferry Marina’s shoeboxes are lovely inside. Look forward to hearing more from you.
  7. Hello and welcome to the forum. The gardens at Somerleyton House are worth a visit. And away from the Broads given you have a car, we enjoyed a visit to Bungay. Love visiting Potter Heigham and highly recommend a stop into Bridgestone’s for a snack or a meal. From being out recently and experience at home, my biggest advice would be to book at least a week ahead if you have anything you particularly want to do. It’s less easy to be spontaneous with all the reduced capacity and social distancing.
  8. Well ... since you mention it ... my hubby is very tall so the bed is always the most important feature for us. Just want to be sure that it is an island bed that you can walk around ... well, maybe stoop around as it's under the bow. Headroom is always an issue.
  9. Welcome to the forum Tex. I don't know the answer to your question as I've never wild moored ... but I'm sure that someone will be along soon to answer your question. :)
  10. Welcome to Chickpea and to Kitch22. The community here is great and we love to hear from new members ... and all boat reviews and holiday tales are gratefully received. Will be interested to hear how you like the Broom Captain, Chickpea. I've been looking at that one for a long time. And would like to get back to the southern rivers ... that might be the boat to tempt me. Either that or an 11 night holiday from the north ... not that I've done Breydon Water yet!! We used to hire from Swancraft when they were running a hire fleet out of Brundall a few years ago now.
  11. Lovely to hear you’ve made it back to the Broads. Have a great time. I think Cockshoot is one of those places you can easily miss if you don’t know it’s there.
  12. Definitely a lot less windy on the coast at Lowestoft today. Been a day of sunny spells with some hot sunshine and no rain. :)
  13. Nice job Ian. Good use of your time I’m sure. Hope you’re keeping well.

    Beccles Bound..

Very brave to admit that. Ours are always to hand and even, many hires later, hubby wears his every time he’s getting on and off with the ropes when we moor up or leave a mooring. I’m at the helm and there’s only ever the two of us. I have mine on as well all the time if we’re helming up top on a fly bridge cruiser like Zircon Emblem last year.

    Beccles Bound..

I don’t think they give out the Broadcaster to everyone like they used to. But we’ve often been asked on handover whether we intend to cross Breydon Water. We never do but I would surmise that if we were then they would give us the information about it.
  16. Loved the one of all the chaos at How Hill. Thanks for sharing them.

    Beccles Bound..

Might be that the majority of hirers are due back on Friday or Saturday. With so few hire yards on the south now, Beccles might be a long way for being sure of getting back to the north in time.
  18. There was differing opinion on this but what I read was that one of the industry bodies appealed and it was extended to motorised accommodation as long as it involved overnight stays so wouldn’t apply to dayboats but should apply to boating holidays.
  19. Don’t forget the VAT reduction. I would have hoped that was resulting in quite a reduction in basic hire price for people booking at the moment.
  20. That must be bittersweet Malcolm. I hope it turns out to be a good decision. This year has made many of us re-evaluate our lives.
  21. Incidentally I have seen a lot of first timers asking on social media about routes they can plan around being in a pub every night. That’s definitely not for me but seems to be the image some folk have of a Broads holiday. Like you I would have enjoyed people and boat watching from afar.
  22. Loved your tale. Hope you can come back soon.
  23. Enjoying your tale and seeing your photos. Some moorings have to be taken if you find them free unless it’s really too early. We haven’t managed Womack Island yet.
  24. I think part of the problem is that we don’t have the government briefings very often now and people have lost sight of what the guidelines even are. I find myself keeping quiet because I don’t want to upset people, especially my friends. I read something just a few minutes ago about a family gathering that may have broken the guidance about how many households can meet indoors together. And how many people from different households can meet outside together. But without questioning people you can’t be sure ... and who wants to do that.
  25. I think we’re at the point where it’s about doing what you’re comfortable with while keeping within the guidelines as far as possible and as you understand them to be. I’m very lucky to have my caravan to get to instead of trying to book a holiday anywhere. We’ve been able now to safely visit our family. And we have started enjoying coffee stops and lunch out again. But because of restrictions my company have put in place, I will be working from home for the foreseeable future.
