  1. I'd see what the weather is doing before you make too many firm plans. If it's going to be gloriously warm and sunny as expected for the British bank holiday I'd be less worried about the less experienced boaters they'll not notice the tides or motion as they'll be so blown away by the beauty. And a red dawn/ dusk crossing would be magical and worth it IMO. πŸ‘
  2. Enroute back from Sutton Staithe Boat Yard to the big smoke. After 4, 12 hour days which have taken their toll on me, I have a better understanding of the devotion, time, effort, skill, mates, money and of course love that goes in to owning a woody. Thanks to Charlie, Robin Et al. That showed me some new skills and let me loose on their boat with a hammer and chisel. Very brave. it made a nice, if knackering change from tapping away at keyboard all week, and I learnt loads! It was great to put some more names to faces forumite-wise and great to see so many people coming to help or offer moral support. Long may it continue! Now for a nap on the train.
  3. I Know!! Sell it cheap to broads boaters! .... and we're back on message!
  4. Hi M, I don't think the government will remove that choice economics will. I'm jelous of your public transport choices! I don't do too badly in London as I can often add a bicycle into the mix which takes out some of the waiting around.
  5. Well it will have to make it cheaper or faster for it to work as a business. I guess. You probably wouldn't pay per journey, you'd join your preferred service (VolvoCarShare.com).for instance, set level/ frequency of service you want and pay a monthly fee. All being well said vehicle will be waiting for you.... possibly with others inside depending on your chosen level of service. And off you go. No traffic jams. No signals, no drivers. All for a fraction of the cost, of owning/ maintaining/ insuring etc. You'll also likely be working on your laptop and so getting paid. This isn't some distant utopian dream we'll see this in most of our lifetimes.
  6. I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm not much of car person. However if the tech wizzards can be believed the predictions for emissions charging won't come to fruition as autonomous vehicles will effectively render mass private car ownership a thing of the past. The choice people will make won't be "what car will I buy?" "But what service will I use?" Wiki has an interesting article. Mobility_as_a_service I wonder how the government/ council recoup the lost revenue... I can't see an autonomous vehicle getting a ticket.
  7. The right boat in the right market... (tourists in London) marketed properly to the right rube (I mean customer) could achieve that I would have thought.
  8. Hmm, we'll need the Nogs for this I feel. I've not played for ages, and it shows... The hops on the ceiling is ringing serious bells. But I can't place it!!
  9. Liver bird/ dragon I can't tell the difference....
  10. Add an O to those initials and another dragon, and you'd be on to a winner with the hat! Up O's!! Have a great holiday!
  11. There appears to be a BB fly bridge cruiser tied up, but in gear and throttled up, on the river front moorings it's been like it for hours. Phoned BB and was advised that they know about it and were working on it. I wonder what they are doing to it.
  12. Interesting point that, I'm on a TfL working group for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs).. driverless cars to you and me. When I raised the point about jobs, the answer that seems to have been accepted is that "The economy will find a way" and other jobs will take the places of those that are lost. The example given was the early 20th century and all the jobs lost around horses being the main mode of transport, i.e. Blacksmiths, farriers, grooms, stable boys, feed and bedding suppliers.... and probably lots more. That argument seems to stack up historically, however I can't see the 45000 ish Uber drivers in London finding alternative jobs quickly. And knowing Uber those CAVs will be on the steet in shory order. There are already CAVs on the public highway every day. They are testing systems and mapping roads. At the moment all they require is a human chaperone and an MOT.
  13. On the River Lea. Harry is looking a bit sorry his self at Tottenham Hale. Excuse the slanty horizon.
  14. I ordered a foldable bicycle tyre, it arrived unfolded and packaged in a similar manner. I imagine it's all computer generated box sizes. I expect the picker (a robot i expect) gets a shelf number and predetermined box size and the packer just tapes them up. No room for common sense in computers sadly. That's why they keep getting smaller.
  15. On a serious note, and from the perspective of a broads novice, I've noticed during my time on the NBN there is a sense of loss people seem to feel, when they get nostalgic. I'm a noob to the broads having 1st visited almost 4 years ago. It's fair to say I'm hooked, I've wondered have I missed the boat so to speak, maybe I missed other peoples boats.... I'm glad I did visist, I think it's a wonderful place now and I hope it continues to be. I expect I'll be looking back in 40 years time (If I'm lucky) and talking about the way things were and noticing that a heck of a lot has changed. I hope I don't feel a sense of loss though. It's a lovley photo, as are all of the pictures of the 'Old Days'.
  16. I've seen some bear like creatures emerging from Herbert Woods craft during a certain week in October.....
  17. Yes! Not quite to the extent it locks the machine, but It's the same with the several other click bait websites.... I mean local newspapers I look at from time to time. I'm convinced it's all the advertising and link too.
  18. I think it's having somewhere to fly it from is the prohibiting factor, I've got a little burgee mast from China that I've used on hire boats to fly mine.
  19. Well I'm home and survived. An excellent way to spend the day IMHO. The EDP summed the match up better than I ever could. All in all a thoroughly good day. The whole thing ran like clock work from London bridge, through the game and back again, and we didn't even get the chance to mix with the home fans - what else would you expect from a central London fixture. The Canaries fans were vocal and supportive the whole match, it was a great atmosphere, as we were at the end of the stand, the gobbier fans got to eyeball their Millwall counterparts and exchange unpleasantries, all in reasonably good spirits. On balance I'd reccomend it.
  20. Half time 1 all. An amazing away crowd Sold out and singing up. Was a great journey to the ground. I'd be surprised if Millwall are half full.
  21. Hi Everyone, apologies I've not posted in aaagggeeesss, I haven't had much time for internet socialising lately, however I've missed the forum. I've been keeping an eye on a few threads to keep up with what's going on in the heady world of broads boating, today however I'm doing something different and new to me, Norfolk related but not boaty, and I thought I'd share it. I'm off to see Norwich away to Millwall which I hope will be an experience. If you'd asked me this time last year if I liked football l'd have said no. However I'd now probably say I like to watch a live match. I've never been a football fan preferring summer games at school, but last year I discovered I get Leyton Orient tickets at a staff discount, not one to miss a perk, I went to see a couple of matches at Brisbane Road, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It's got a great supporters associate club bar too😁 So when I heard friend of a friend had a spare ticket to go and see Norwich away to Millwall I couldn't say no. So here I am on the Jubilee Line enroute to London Bridge and the away pub! This is my 1st ever away match. Assuming I survive, I'll report back later! Any tips from footy fans about surviving Millwall will be gratefully received.
  22. Use them! That's what they are there for!
