  1. This forum has taught me loads, (thank you all) hence....my advice....get your own back... don't frap your halyard Is that allowed???????????
  2. It will be ridiculously busy, you won't get a mooring anywhere, I don't know why you're bothering, stay at home and I'll help you out and pop down the yard to tell them you can't make it. Seriously, don't think rammed but reckon Broads 01 is about right, it will be busy but not stupidly so. It was last year late sept when we visited. Enjoy your time, I'm sure you will
  3. I do apologise and accept that my previous postings were a little childish, I will attempt to redeem myself by exposing the male form of pudding and dumpling. ( just for you ladies!!)
  4. In my years, there are two places that have stood out. One was along time ago, in Bath, a converted railway station called Green Park ( I think ) Live background music, great food, great service. Another was in Salzburg, we were there during their Jazz Festival. Can't remember the name of the place but it is reputed to be the oldest restaurant in the world and we only found it by chance. Good food and some Dixieland jazz thrown in. IMO what makes a place memorable is the overall experience. On Sunday lunch Mrs W and I visited Leigh on Sea, The Peterboat, some of you will know it. It's just a pub, on an estuary but it's very busy and boy do they know how to look after their many customers. Good food too, no wonder they're busy.
  5. If I holiday mainly in the north, does that make me a northerner? I thought I was a southern softy.
  6. Add some more eggs.....or get someone else to do the cooking. surprised Mr Griffin didn't rename you Andrew "can't" Cook. And respect to you for doing a full on roast on a boat.
  7. There was always a distinct smell to the drawings we had, and it lasted and lasted, was that the ammonia? And always a blue tinge to the paper.
  8. Good looking????? you mean was good looking, he now looks like a cross between Worzel Gummage and Selwyn Froggit. No mans looks have ever been improved by growing a beard, ever, this is not up for discussion. Plenty of young men now will look at photos of themselves in 20 years time and think " Oh my god what was I doing with that beard, it looks stupid"......yes it did, and it does, so shave it off...now. I feel better now. Anyway, back to draughtsman, I just missed out on the drawing on boards stage, didn't you have to draw on tracing paper and get it printed off on blue sheets? something like that?
  9. I reckon it's hard to say boating spirit is on the decline. I would guess that people who turn a blind eye to situations have just not experienced enough to realise what to do. Same could be said for life in general. We have been towed to safety on the broads after engine failure. Many years ago when I was young and stupid (now I'm old and stupid) I was water skiing with a friend and my two young girls off shore when that super sexy outboard decided to give up. It was a big spring tide on it's way out. We all had buoyancy aids and wetsuits, no anchor, but luckily for us, actually very luckily, my father in law had convinced me to buy some flares. He was old you see, and knew what to do. When he mentioned flares to me I genuinely thought he was talking about 70's clothing. Well we had them and realising we were (insert swear word here) up went a red one. I'm actually reliving the moment as I type. When we fired that flare my heart sank. I was expecting some massive, exploding, can't be missed display, instead we got a cheap one shot roman candle.....but....unknown to us.....it had been seen for miles. After a while a sailboat arrived, they had changed their plans to come and help. They dropped their little outboard, connected a line and towed us back to safety. It took nearly two hours to get us back to the estuary we launched from. Due to their keel they couldn't get too close to shore, we had to jump off and wade the last bit, we thanked them as best we could but I have always felt it wasn't enough. To this day I'd love to know who they were to thank them properly. Call it life experience or old age, but I would never pass a boat in difficulty.
  10. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Snowy. SWB on the mudweight twice in a week, good choice.
  11. Watched your videos many times before Mr G, impressive. And your reply " nowadays all of them are a breeze" and then "PHB is a whole different ball game" Potter still worries you even with all your experience?
  12. I'm talking about taking a boat under one of those bridges. Some of you will have done it loads of times, but what was the first time like?.... you know....when it mattered... and do you still get nervous? And for those who have never done it, like me, reckon you could passage safely? I think I could, but I'd like to practise first with someone else's boat.
  13. I agree with Swan R. Forward steer will almost guarantee passage under the bridge. Some have free standing furniture which can leave a lot of space in the living area for a wheelchair. Hope you find something suitable, above the bridge is lovely
  14. brilliant.... where else but on the broads?....unless you were a hippy in the sixties.
  15. Lovely sunset photo. Enjoyed reading, Thanks OOOOH Lime Kiln Dyke, don't go down there, you'll never turn and there's nothing there anyway, no shop, no pub, waste of time.
  16. Was that £9-50 per night at Yarmouth in 1991? Can't believe how busy it was. ( I am new to the broads you see)
  17. I reckon it's 20 mins easy stroll along a country lane, not a problem but a good torch essential. The bit from the staithe to the road, if it's wet some muddy puddles can form so beware. Both Gays and Neatishead are lovely, but for fishing I've always found Neatishead better if you can get on the end. I understand your cramped comment but it's not so bad on the ends. If you're early enough pop down there and have look. Enjoy your time.
  18. Oh No!!!! That picture could start a serious exchange of views... I'm so glad I'm not a saily and needing water
  19. I will never tire of well written and interesting holiday tales. Thank you and look forward to more.
  20. I really wanted to point that out last night, just couldn't do it. Nice hands up Wonderwall.
