  1. I wonder if the article was inspired by a briefing from the BA rather than an approach to them from the press? It may explain the emphasis on certain points as the BA seek to set the agenda from their viewpoint.
  2. Looks fantastic, beautiful work πŸ‘
  3. I get a feeling of unease reading these documents... not a single concrete proposal. A call for funding by the Campaign for National Parks which is likely to fall on deaf ears given the recent pandemic associated spending. Are we going to end up with nothing but a pointless rebranding? "Welcome to the Broads National Landscape"
  4. That's the Grendel we know and love πŸΊπŸΊπŸ‘
  5. Won't work? Who are you and what have you done with Grendel? πŸ˜‰

    My Day

Made it! Thanks for all the replies, I arrived at Ludham Bridge at 12:20ish, the tide was falling but it was still very tight.. the marker advised 8' 1" and even though that leaves some wriggle room I decided to moor up for a brew and sandwiches for a while to see if it would drop some more, low water wasn't until 16:30. Just after 13:00 I walked up for a close sighting of the marker, it was just about 8'3"... My boat is 8'3" so I pretty much decided to go for it. I got chatting to an angler by the bridge and he said " hold your breathe and I'll look out from the bank and give you a shout if it looks dodgy" I was solo helming for the first time today and his kind offer decided me. As I eased the bow pennant pole under the leading edge of the bridge a voice rang out across the water... "Go on, you could get a bus through there" πŸ™‚ If this bus was an inch taller than my boat he was right lol but it was a relief I can tell you, we shared a thumbs up and I was through at last! In the unlikely event he is a member here, thank you! So three great things today, finally moved my boat to her new moorings, really enjoyed solo helming and against the usual stereotyping the angler and the helm can be friends. It was a beautiful day for a cruise and probably the most fun I've had in months πŸ‘
  7. Welcome to the forum πŸ™‚ I'm sure that more knowledgeable members than me will be along in the morning. Meanwhile I think that the combination you are looking for may have to be booked as seperate breaks. I imagine it's possible though and sounds like great holiday! Also maybe consider a riverside property for the first part of your break rather than specifically a houseboat, you may find a wider range of options. Good luck πŸ‘

Either of you been within sight of Ludham Bridge by any chance? Hoping water levels are dropping enough now for me to get under. I'll probably drive up there in the morning, all being well.
  11. Beautifully shot and edited, I really enjoyed that Jean and have just subscribed to your channel to enjoy more πŸ‘
  12. That sounds right Andrew, sometimes though there is just nowhere for all that water to go. The high spring tides cause locking and lots of rain adding runoff and up the levels go! Not usually a problem in the summer months though luckily πŸ‘
  13. I have heard Ludham Carpets recommended but I haven't used them myself. http://www.ludhamcarpets.co.uk/
  14. The trend does appear to have started back down, I agree about today's rain though. I was at Sutton today by car and the water was up to the workshop door! I've been looking at data for Barton as a guide - https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/station/6216
  15. Hope things start to improve quickly for you 🀞
  16. My credentials as a modelling ignoramus are well established so please accept the following link as submitted on the very long odds it may be useful πŸ™‚ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281675944709?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338827328&toolid=10029&customid=281675944709_1
  17. Speaking as someone who has zero skills with tools or models I'm on the verge of having to say Wow again! πŸ‘
  18. Sorry to hear of your loss Carole, friends like you describe are priceless I know. My condolences to all who knew her.
  19. It looks like it's just going to be a case of me being patient.... Not one of my strong points 😁 I like Lulu's idea although I think pints all round was exceedingly generous... I could offer a fruit juice and 10 straws though πŸ˜‚
  20. It is only just visible, sadly I think it is slightly too tight to safely call. Without the sensible head of my crew I would have probably risked it yesterday and caused some expensive damage... to my wallet and my ears lol
  21. Ah well next week hopefully then, we have a car service booked this week so we'll get that out of the way first!
  22. Sadly not! Not to worry, we'll try again as soon as we can, probably next week if I can get the BSS rearranged 🀞
  23. 02:15 that's when the dog decided it could not wait until morning! πŸ™„ Plus, the holding tank lights just went from green to red without bothering about the yellow in the middle. Some trips are doomed lol Low Water is about 07:00, if it's still no go then back to base. Nowhere for a pump out this side of the bridge until Tuesday. BSS inspection arranged for Saturday at Potter, hoping I can rearrange for Sutton. Fun... this boating lark isn't it? 😁
  24. We had it pretty well worked out after the boards were reset in '21 but although I haven't heard they had been adjusted again it seems the board just in front of the bridge is now accurate (is this a first!) It said 8'1" and we were about 2" too tall. @ Malcolm we are going to the Waterside marina at Herbert Woods, a good spot on the floating pontoon and we live close enough not to have to worry about the fish barrier.
  25. We are changing our home moorings and are currently sitting just upstream of Ludham bridge with fingers crossed for tomorrow morning. Lowest the marker got was 8'1" today and I'm sure that in the summer we passed under when it read at 8' We are 8'3" but sure enough as I eased up to the bridge my crew shouted that we would not clear. The small yacht up close behind me did some nifty manouvreing as I waved shouted and went astern. He was under power but why he was that close with no other boats for miles I'm not sure. Anyway we all waved, smiled and thanked each other.. all very British πŸ™‚ Then it started raining, got dark and the dog wanted to go out at the same time. Emergency cans of soup, hot tea, bonios and fresh bowls of water administered as appropriate and here we sit. Snug but suspicious that the rotten dog will want to go out again and that tomorrow's low water will be no better than today's. On the plus side.... no, I'll have to get back to you on that πŸ™‚
