  1. I notice calor are suggesting the smaller camping gaz they they fill for twice the price of regular bottles per kg and not a mention of flogas.
  2. They look like the lightweight blocks that crack in half very easily, would definately be worth a good looking at. I wouldn't want to work under it like that.
  3. I got caught on the waiting pontoon at breydon bridge once when I stopped to check a tacho issue before heading out to sea, only took a slight mishap on timing to have the bow move out and the stern line jam to a point I had to cut the rope (the brand new sodding rope at that) to avoid taking hull damage, luckily only lost a metre off the end of the rope as cut the main bight first then the short section holding us in. Lesson learned....
  4. Bow first into the tide for me too, once past a certain point you will never pull it back in a good flow and can end up having to cut the stern rope to free the boat.
  5. As for character landlords we have one of those as well in one of my locals, have a read of this little review, I'm fairly sure we were in that day (or several days like it), he's a grumpy old git but part of the entertainment as long as you're used to him. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g499501-d8484541-r699177572-Ye_Olde_Sun-St_Neots_Cambridgeshire_England.html It is actually a good little pub with good prices, proper old school place.
  6. One of my locals made a point of laying tables out so you didn't have much choice but to interact with others (made it harder during covid) and that is exactly how it works, they don't do food and have 6 casks behind the bar with taps direct as well as more in the cellar, they have another 6 taps that are all keykeg and nothing from the mainstream brands. There are so many places now where will only speak to the people you went in with and as for ordering from an app!!!!!!
  7. It's the suffolk gazette, what do you think? Have you checked their other stories?
  8. Round towers are quite normal for Norfolk I believe, it stops the yokels peeing in the corner.
  9. Heres a close up of the panel I had done for my wash/wipe/horn/temps, cost me £17 delivered. The holes were spot on the right places and sizes. The plastic plugs were just to hold it in the right place while I got the temp displays in the right screen positions. I'm sure you can get toggle switches with on-off-mom action that would be ideal for bilge pumps giving auto-off-manual control, I'm not a fan of rocker switches and much prefer the look of plain old toggles.
  10. Ian feels his way under, with his head.... Sorry Ian, couldn't have a ludham bridge thread without a mention.
  11. We are the same, and at home friday/saturday/sunday are pub days, we have some cans in the house but they are out of date as we just don't drink at home (except rum after the pub). We are doing our bit to keep them going, as for anything above that bridge-no chance.
  12. Those trim tab switches were a replacement for a "rocket" type joystick, the proper bennetts option was about £120, the two momentry toggle switches and backplate cost me less than £20, that's around 20 pints in real world savings.
  13. Chose your switches and get the backing panel to suit, I've had a few done via fleabay with good results, draw the surround and they'll cut it with your text. Windlass, trim tabs, and wash/wipe/horn area were done from drawing (well scribbling) at a cheap price.
  14. Sorry Vaughan but surely left and right has nothing to do with port and starboard when referring to banks as they are purely down to direction of travel, port and starboard banks you are absolutely correct on.
  15. I think flogas also deliver for free if no local agents keep small bottles.
  16. Check the flogas website for options, they give bottle dimensions but I think the base rings are wider so if you have a moulded base and limited height you may need to do some mods, means another bottle cost and different regulator. They give two heights for propane so you may be better switching to 4.5kg butane. 3.9 propane and 4.5 butane are the same in calor sizes.
  17. I'd better stop advising people to ignore the board then..... Next visit I'll have to walk under with the tape measure again.

    Odd One

Must have been well equipped as most cutting discs don't go well with aluminium as they clog and shatter if not careful, and very neatly done too by the look of it. Maybe just someone trying to get their toll back down to a sensible price.....
  19. Last time I saw reedham ferry close up there was a few bits of wood fendering hanging off and long bolts hanging out ready to take out your grp.
  20. I doubt you'll get a refill on them as calor are discontinuing them along with the 4.5kg butane, or have you found supplies?

    Places To Go?

Anywhere along the river deben is good, very pretty.

    Places To Go?

Woodbridge is well worth a visit, some lovely medieval buildings (some pubs so you can nose around the inside with an excuse to be in the pub) and the tide mill, the replica of the sutton hoo boat down by the quay and sutton hoo itself of course just outside, and the angel had woodfordes albion stout last time I was in.
  23. That would be a hell of a route, and a swim. If you like a good walk you can moor at st.benetts and walk to the dog at ludham bridge.
  24. And if you are not used to tidal water try and moor against the tide if there's much flow, it will all happen slower with better steering. More important for southern broads but worth knowing.
