  1. Hi Ray you should have a gate or ball valve connected to hull fitting this will stop water ingress so any cap will be for decorative/aesthetic reasons and NOT for water integrity so any thing will be ok, UNLESS the valve is not working . John
  2. Hi Ray if you dont use the diverter valve(ie pump toilet overboard and not going to sea) anything that shortens the length is a good thing , good to see that you have two stainless clips on each joint, ideally the saddles should be opposite each other BUT dont change them now as they are set on the hose but perhaps doing this on the new hose joints. John
  3. Hi Ray its made by LeeSan and called Odor free toilet pipe and use only stainless steel jubilee clamps two on each joint if possible with clips opist each other and try too keep level or sloping to tank. John
  4. Hi John You need too remember to moor into the tidal flow which isn't always up river and the height of water(rise & fall) can be as much as two feet depending where you moor so dont have the mooring ropes to tight. Enjoy having no locks. John
  5. Leaving battery's for eight months with out a maintenance charge while kill battery's, and once they are discharged modern battery's cant be recharged. John
  6. Hi You dont say what electrical equipment you have are the earth points connected to the engine earth when was the boat wired, as Vaughan says disconnect each item as you check meter to isolate which which could be the cause. John
  7. Yes but they have done it many times before they are not silly just well practiced. John
  8. By going through with full throttle they dig the water from underneath the boat giving more clearance along with better steerage. And its not there boat. John
  9. Hi Andy just remember that narrow boats are difficult to stern moor which along with a 50/60 foot length will restrict your mooring options on the broads. John
  10. Hi James If you stand at rear of boat and site along highest part of boat on approaching if you can see the far underside of arch you will get through if only the near under arch you will ht it, alternatively attach a sprung pole to front pulpit rail the top being your highest part if pole goes under fine if it touches you have time to engage reverse and abandon the attempt. John
  11. Just watched this video ignorance is bliss springs to mind, she would have had the same result cheaper if she had a lead acid battery, Lithium batteries dont give you any more amps than you put in,they just give you perhaps double the storage/ amps for a given size and weight battery compared to lead acid at a much higher cost boats dont often have storage/weight problems unlike most other battery run items. John
  12. Hi Andrew Traction batteries are the cheapest overall for boat propulsion BUT! do need a separate storage from interia of boat and do require maintenance likewise lead acid battery's for domestic bank are the cheapest over all BUT ! do require topping up once a year and both types need a float charging when not being used for longevity But if you want a battery in the inertia (not recommended) Lithium would be best As Grendel said vehicle propulsion batteries are not suitable for leisure boats yet. John
  13. Hi Ray If you are talking about the blade or tubberler fuses they have a 50% surge ie 10amp is 15amp continuous. I would suggest that you have one block connected to ignition switch circuit for wipers, horn, nav lights and one connected to domestic's batt switch for TV. heating lights pump etc ideally one fuze per item connected then a separate fuze connected to battery side for the bilge pump this should be live 24/7. when you connect the fuzes and wire ends dip into vaseline to prevent corrosion. If your going to use voltage trips you will need to double up otherwise you will need a lot of space for the panels if individual trips are used these are best but! cost may come into the equation. John
  14. Hi They put the Trellis up to improve the acoustics unfortunately they are a dust trap. John

I would guess that they would use 100/110 amp domestic/starter batteries as they would be out of warranty when they packed up, and having identical looking batteries is easier and more aesthetically on the eye if not on the pockit. John

If choosing by car type a older 3, 4 lt diesel Mercedes would be my starting point in the absence of a specification book that i used back then. John

If you tow a boat the prop will turn enough to damage some gearboxes so possible but unlikely. John

Hi Biker you need to be careful when ordering a battery for a car as many cars today have different needs than older vehicles which just needed to turn engine over. Stop start cars need a different type of battery which won't suit a boat engine when i sorted a battery twelve years ago for my new boat the one that was most suitable ie size, length, height, and cold cranking turned out to be for a Rolls Royce, that vehicle todays battery would not be suitable for a boat engine today, as engine starting spec's have changed for new cars. Hi I'm advocating QUALITY batteries not the cheapest crap unless you only want it to last a couple of years. i use to fit UNIPART batteries as not only where they very good but gave a life time guarantee to the original purchaser along with a credit card size warranty card this would last in glove box indefinitely as against a paper receipt, had a customer who had a honda from new he only bought the one battery and as he hardly used it the battery's only lasted four or five years i use to say that a taxi would be cheaper but he wouldn't part with it so every four or five years a new free battery. Hi Relayer ideally you should connect the positive terminal from donor battery to flat battery then negative terminal from donar battery to a bare metal part on flat battery's engine, then start up doner engine and run for several minitse OR charge battery for 24hrs with battery charger this will prevent any surges/ damage to flat engine circuitry. BUT i guess that the two engines are connected by 100 amp earth wire that connects at the starter motors retainer bolts in which case after making certain there are no fumes by running engine room extractor fans connect positive of flat battery then to positive of donner battery then wait a minute or so then start up engine run for a couple of minutes then remove pos lead in reverse order. I would suggest that you only need one starter battery for both engines A 100 amp 13 plate Automotive lead acid with highest cranking amps this will last forever mine is 12 years old so far with no sign of wear AND get it from a Motor Factors not Halfords or wilco.or domestic/starter battery. then connect both alternators to a advanced regulator (i use Sterling ones). then chose the highest number of domestic you can fit wired in parallel connected so positive supply cable comes from first/No1 and negative supply cable from last and if not on mains electric get a small solar panel to maintain the battery's voltage when your not there. Hi Relayer YES is the answer first do you just want to start the engine or do you want to check/change the battery. John
  24. Hi Follow manufactures advice.Or start up after a few minutes turn fuel of let engine run until fuel used then squirt some RedEx into air inlet while turning engine over,cover/tape inlet then spray WD over engine replace original engine cover with anti theft cover or remove engine and take home or tilt engine out of the water, ideally use fuel before next year and start with fresh E5.
