  1. Hi Trevor suggest you ring Hippersons at Beccles or Goodchilds. getting F A M E free diesel rather then cheapest would be my priority. Fish dock at Lowerstoft is cheapest but you will have to pay to go through lock gates at Oulton Broads so for only 600 lt probably not worth it unless you sail round through Yarmouth. John
  2. Hi Wooster not the best place to tap in the fuel line as that is the engine fuel filter. BUT if it worked before ! have you bleed the fuel line to do this remove the fuel pipe from heater then remove the electric cable from the pump, then run a wire from the pos term of battery or any available live supply then flash the bare end of wire to pump terminal repeatably you should get a little spurt of fuel from end of hose every time you touch the pump terminal along with a tick the pump only pumps once every time the heater calls for fuel NOT continuously like most pumps do. when you get fuel spurting from end of hose reattach to pump and wire to pump term you my have to then switch the heater on and of a couple of times purge air in heater this will make a ticking noise from pump to indicate the pump is working. John
  3. Most likely America but then again how many boats per year sailed does this represent. John
  4. Hi Wooster my boat 44ftx11ft 6" has a displacement hull speed of just over 9 knots as worked out by a marine architect this is the max theoretical speed even with 150 hp engine it wont go faster if you have a planning hull then you would go faster as you would slide/float over the water rather then push the water aside as a displacement hull does. there is a optimum prop size on the broads displacement hull is approx 17 inch dia and 13inch pitch powered by a 45 to 60 hp engine.you should be able to achieve the max RPM of the engine when flat out if sized correctly. often hire boats are sized with a larger/coarser pitch to stop the engine being over revved causing engine damage. you would get more speed with a smaller engine if you had a narrow hull width but still the hull speed would apply. we wont go into navy Destroyers as this gets very complicated . John
  5. Hi Wooster you cant compare diesel car engines to boat engines. boat engines are slower userly max RPM.2800rpm cars are 6,000 rpm with constant changes in speed, and all year running ie cold winter tick over in traffic. a diesel that is charging battery's should be at a speed in that the engine doesn't shake often 1,000rpm. regular oil changes with good quality oil and a filter at least once a year before lay up are essential. John
  6. As i only now do three thousand a year now thought a Tesla might be more convenient.it also has a very good all round driver vision. i put my present car on a maintenance charger so not much difference there,i can charge at boat yard with no problems if i need to just cost of a micky box to take advantage of my solar panels, so no bills, no queuing at pumps. although insurance is higher.just jump in and go. John
  7. Ordered my S tesla in February the delivery was to be in November then September now end of next month. John
  8. Hi They are all 71c or 72c model no is the different ratios. Google it for more info. are you moored at Jones, St Ives. John
  9. Hi You should not put petrol in with diesel ! You can dilute with Paraffin up to %25 this was a BOAR army directive for cold weather to resist waxing. John
  10. Hi Micky I have a workshop manual for the Borg Warner 72C gear box for sale if you are interested. John
  11. Hi And in older engine rubber seals might not cope. John
  12. Hi Micky The valve shouldn't drip try twisting the red **** a couple of times this can clean the seating very time the hot water tank gets hot the water pressure increases the valve then opens to release the pressure i fitted a hull fitting so when this happens it drips/run over board. When you re couple the shaft to the gear box first check the packing in the cutless seal doesn't need replacing around the shaft, if it does then check the lineament of the shaft by pushing the bolts through the coupling and the two faces are parell you my find you need to adjust the engine mountings to acheave this. John
  13. My Mother had a hip replacement the same time as a lady across the road my mother followed all the exercises and had no issues but the lady across the road did very little because it was painful she ended up house bound while mother was very mobile. No pain no gain. John
  14. All this talk of Hake i went to fishmongers and asked for Hake it is a very large fish i had a chunk of it i intend to bake in the oven in foil like i do Haddock, be able to tast it better than fried in batter.John
  15. They both have the same make base engine its the bolt on's that are different. John
  16. If any would like to go on You Tube under ship/boat mishaps it make broads mishaps pall in insignificance all by component skippers/pilots. There no collision wavers at sea. John
  17. Hi Ray Just the result of a good engine and Quality oil with yearly oil changes, i get the same result with my Kubota after ten years, well done keep it up. John
  18. There are people who think a 13amp sq pin plug and socket rapped in a plastic bag is a suitable extension lead for a boat even in a puddle when it rained over night, this often happens at the Waverny where they use the camp site posts. John
  19. The Hydraulic steering on my boat has plastic pipes and although in ten years it hasn't failed/broken mechanically it did stop working on the top helm once when i left the mooring, reason i had not checked fluid level. every year it needed topping up but had discerning leak, previous boat had metal pipes and never needed topping up and never went wrong in twelve years BUT they were never used every day by inexperienced crew like a hire boat would. And like cars older models had power steering problems but more modern cars have very few problems, now we have electric steering again few problems.John
  20. Hi I use a coke can inverter plugged into the 12volt sockit to run my latest ResMed, i do remove the heater/humidifier unit when on the boat as this uses more currant, in fact i dont notice much difference from it than at home. Also never had a ranger or other even at Ranworth unplug me John
  21. Hi Vaughan it can be done, i have this on my boat the Morse only controls the revs at both helms it then has a fly by wire control for proportional forward and reverse the change over switch is on the interior front helm dash, forward to operate the lower helm at front of boat and rear for upper rear helm with a neutral position in centar, i might add i do have Hydraulic drive that makes this easier to fit. John
  22. I tell them i have a duel splitter we can use providing they dont need 16 amps, they then put their pound in while i go and get the splitter result i get free electric. John
  23. I went on a Sunseaker weeks tuition in the Mediterranean many years ago we had inboard and out drive boats to learn on each with a qualified instructor their was four to a boat after a weeks tuition half the people couldn't moor or maneuver the boats properly and as for reading a compass at night, in spit of their buying a several hundred thousand pounds of boat they were clueless one of the thirty something guy stock broker i think, demolished a pontoon commodity post, all he was interested was pushing the throttle wide open just like he did in his Ferrari, so what chance has a new hirer in 45mins going to be able to do? SAFETY is the most important thing you are only going to achieve if you are lucky. John
