  1. Hi Griff unlikely to be the calliper's to test calliper's stab brake pedal at 20mph if van pulls up even calliper's ok if not they would pull to one side. the side that is ok. more likely to be pads rusted/sticking in housing, file the runners and new pads on the edges, grease the touching faces with copper slip on reassembly, then drive up the road at 20mph pressing the brake pedal several times to bed the new pads in to the old discs, to attain a good pedal pressure. John
  2. Hi Just to add what Vaughan said when you refit the impellor make sure that you bend the lob's in the right direction and a little grease smeared on both sides of the gasket and screw threads when reassembling. John
  3. Hi Micky I would suggest you make a wiring diagram listing all items etc this will come in handy if you get a problem or you add to to the boat in the future plus it will help any body you sell the boat to too work out what's what, i have a folder on my boat listing EVERTHING including where it is located on board along with a loading list of all items on board. John
  4. Hi the Australians have it right in remote places. John 315897235_133039172876598_4810295090960255251_n.mp4
  5. Hi Mouldy if you had purchased propriety pads the clips come in the box as you should change them when new pads are fitted. The cost of the key is not just the key it has to be swiped by the main agent with a hand held devise in the car to prevent cloning by undesirables. John
  6. Hi Griff Be aware that there are four different gearbox oils you tell the difference by the colour patch adjacent to the level plug on side of gear box, Green, Red ,Yellow and Blue if memory is correct.one of them you can only get in a twenty five Lt can, was £385=00 plus vat back in 90's BUT! never came across that colour so you should be ok. Nice cars had a couple of customers that had them. John
  7. Hi Cheesey I had the impression that you had no weed filter, as you have have thought that if you turn of the hull fitting then remove filter top pore in a mixture of antifreeze with engine running (a length of hose with a funnel pushed in the end) 1/2 gallon should be enough then when no water is coming from the exhaust switch of then pore a neat mixture in weed housing this will percolate down the hoses. difficult to advise when unable to see your installation so just a idea that might work for you. John
  8. Hi Cheesey How do you stop weed from blocking your intake? a weed filter housing connected to hull valve is a good thing to have and gives a access point in which to flush the raw water side with antifreeze and turn off/isolate river water from inertia of boat. John
  9. Hi Micky There is no need to fuse starter cables, on your battery picture you have not greased your terminals and you have taken both pos and neg supply cables from the same battery not recommended, see my picture on a earlier post on this file. John
  10. Hi Floyd It all depends what type of driving you do when fords first bought out the escort it had a replacement belt millage of 50,000 but many vans that where used for town deliveries had belts break before this millage, they soon bought the millage down to 36,000. these days with computers that can measure the amount of revelation's so millage is not a problem but they now also add a yearly count to catch the very low millage users. my Honda was 100,000 miles or ten years. I now have a chain driven camshaft Honda no mileage to worry about, if tensioner wears you get a noise to warn you , But regular oil changes each year regardless of millage prevents wear. Cam belts have replaced exhausts as a good earner for the trade. John
  11. Hi Micky This is my choice plus two alternators one of 60 amp and one of 180 amps along with a combined intelligent charger that combines both to charge domestic bank and or engine battery. Ideally you need a bank to last two days with a max load ie heating, fridge, toilet and water pump. Having two banks of two rather than just one bank of four just flogs one bank rather than spread the load over all .this could mean you have to change your battery's more frequently and there for more cost. As with most things there is a cost involved for the best system. Plus adding a solar panel helps no end in maintaining the battery's charge there for adding to there longevity and less cost overall. John PS photos should have come last finger trouble along with no grand son available. John
  12. Hi Pauln your battery's are not wired up for best performance see di above. John
  13. Sutton stathe would be easier to add more posts than many other moorings with benefits for all. John
  14. Hi Mikey just a thought a volt meter is of more use than a amp meter as it gives you the state of the battery and if being charged rather than how much you are putting in or taking out, if alternator is charging volts will go up to near 14 volts if battery is low standing voltage is 12volts . John
  15. Hi Micky i use a sterling advanced charger this fools the alternator into charging the full amperage while it also monitors the battery temp as well reducing the the charge until temp drops then up too full charge until battery is fully charged, see there web site for more info. John
  16. Hi Micky Also in addition to what Vaughan said when you wire battery up take the pos cable from the first batty then the neg from the last battery, see dig. this spreads the load over all the battery's equally rather then just the first battery John
  17. Lead acid battery's self discharge over time this happens more/quicker if connected in a bank, you need a battery maintainer! be it shore power driven or solar for maintaining battery longevity. John
  18. Hi If you have a solar panel connected to the battery bank this will keep the battery's in a fully charged condition through the winter months without having to connect to the grid/shore power or having to disconnect them over winter. Battery's last a lot longer if kept fully charged. John
  19. Hi The trick with any infrequently used petrol fuelled carburettor engine is to not just switch off but to shut the fuel off then run at high revs to drain/use up the fuel in the carburettor to stop the engine, this will stop the jets from gumming up, their is no need to drain the fuel from the tank just tighten down the air valve in the cap. John
  20. Hi 01 if using more than a electric heater at the same time un coil all of the cable as this can get hot and needs ventilation to stop it melting. John
  21. There is a tv aerial called a Ballard from Wards of Brundel that dosn't need a pole. John
  22. Hi Andrew the engine oil is changed each year(subject to hours run) its normal for gear boxes to be changed less frequent ie hours used (see manufactures recommendation, but oil level again each year, the drive belt for over head camshaft like wise has a hours/miles/max time for changes ,usely several years if you mean alternator/dynamo belt no time/hours run just check for cracks and general condition also adjustment. john
