  1. By removing the disused metal rail bridge then jack up the road bridge (it only rests on the flood wall) would remove many of the problems at the yacht station along with a unsightly rusty mess. John
  2. What about wire mesh. John
  3. Hi Chris well done ,It might be a good idea to block there entrance up next year to stop it happening again, what would we do if gas had run out.?. John
  4. Hi Simon the pressure vessal is userly red or blue in colour and is fitted after the pump in the supply hose connected by a tee piece on the top you have a valve the same as a car Tyre valve on your car, depress the pin to let out air and pump in air to increase pressure you can use a car pressure gauge to check the pressure, think car Tyre. John
  5. A good plan is to get a a4 size folder with plastic leafs so you can make diagrams, info etc when you come across these, also a fuse diagram is very helpful along with a wiring diagram with cable colours. doing it now while you can see, bend and remember what previous owner told you, and before everything fades, along with your memory. John
  6. Hi Simon first check that the air pipe to the top of the tank is clear and the gause mesh on outside of the hull fitting is clear, then follow the pipe to check it hasn't been kinked and if rubber the inside of hose could be collapsed replace with plastic water hose. Then ditto what Vaughan has said. John
  7. Hi My Brother married a German girl she said to me that she liked England because it is so free to do what you like unlike Germany that has so many rules about everything, here you use common sense there you wait for permission. I do like Germany but you can cross the road in the wrong place and get a fine. John
  8. Hi Paul I just left my roller the 2 inch dia of the bar and just cut a grove to allow the links of the chain to run in the grove the larger the dia the smother the chain will run, not had the chain jump out yet. John
  9. Hi David Boat engines are derived from agriculture engines not car engines, i cant see electric taking over small digger's and tractor's ever. John
  10. Hi I machined mine out of stainless steel there is a stockist with found bar who will cut it to length for you. just down from Life boat station in Golstone it will than last for ever. alternatively a new one from chandler but it wont have a grove for the chain links. John
  11. Certainly hydraulic is the easiest to fit as you can run pipe work a lot easier with the added advantage of twin or more helms and with no maintenance required apart from checking oil level at helm and with no back lash,But !!!. John
  12. Hi I do think Beta's add on's are better engineered than Nanni, as regards fuel consumption the graphs are factory test results and can only give a rough idea to actual consumption they can however give a good comparison between different engines/makes. You will only need the extra power to run 240v if cruising at the same time as generating, if however you will only generate while moored you wont need the extra power and with a smaller engine use less fuel. John
  13. Hi Timbo ASAP do Hydrophilic steering it makes the steering very easy there is a choice of how many turns from lock to lock you want four to five would be a good starting point , just ask them to show you how to connect the hose ends as its easy but instructions not to clear. John
  14. Hi Beta dont do a 85t they do do a 90t the t stands for Turbo not ideal for river use beta use a Kubota base engine max revs 2800rpm or a John Deer (ford) engines both are agriculture engines with gear driven camshaft these type of engine lasts for ever providing regular oil changes, I preferer beta as there add on's ie alternators are better engineered, parts are available from Beta, Kubota, and John Deer. You dont say what boat and where you will use it, they do Keel cooled and sea water cooled, hence what do you want it for. As with most marine engines for private use use a agriculture based engines with bolt on marinized items. These are userely low rev gear driven agriculture derived ie no rubber belts that need regular changing with catastrophic results if they break that high rev diesel engines for road use are. John
  15. Hi Andrew we dont notice much difference but then ours isn't very old and we use Propane, perhaps a trial and error and take notes so you dont forget the last experiment would be order of the day. John
  16. Hi I dont suppose you know how its performing do you. John
  17. Apparently Evan the big super yachts pay £1=05 per lt Evan when buying several hundred thousand lts ie two tanker loads.so dont feel to bad. John
  18. In 04 at Womack i paid £120=00 for 400 lts = 30p per lt . John
  19. Hi John if you are going to wild moor and there are many of those down south if mud anchoring on a broad for the wild life, do so at low tide then if you hit bottom you will always get off at high tide, enjoy your holiday break. John
  20. Hi Vaughan Does France still have joint toilets, remember many years ago sitting in one when two women cam in they chattered away six to the dozen when it suddenly went quirt, it still have a chuckle over the incident. John
  21. If shower empty's into bilge not only can it smell but bilge will continually be wet/damp which can cause wicking into the gel coat causing Osmoses, and mould on under side of decking just fit a Gulper pump to drain hole with a on/of switch on shower wall, these pumps can run dry without harm as they have a diaphragm, noisy but efficient. if fridge has no exhaust you can get a exhaust kit from makers easily fitted provided fridge not to far from hull or cabin side .John
  22. One other thing a triple fridge uses a heat sink hence high electric power used new electric fridges use a compressor to cooldown, a compressor uses far less electric then a heat sink plate, but can be noisy hence gas is cheaper then electric and makes no noise. John
  23. Hi Mike As Vaughan said keep the gas fridge, they work far better than electric ones, stay colder use hardly any gas and a really cold freezer compartment, the only down side is they are smaller than new modern electric fridges, the 12volt connection is for traveling only with engine running, forget that, i have run gas fridges while moving/driving both boats and motor homes no issues at all. You need to be more concerned with checking that the shower dosn't empty into the bilges and then use the bilge pump to empty the bilge as many Broomes did use this method. John
  24. But it needs electricity to make Hydrogen the only advantage is it can be stored in containers far better to make Hydrogen from surplus wind power or any surplus power from solar etc which can then be stored until used. John
