  1. There used to be a boat yard in Hoveton where Fineway cruisers was called Ralph English. he had mainly day boats some of which were Brooke. He also had a cruiser Reverie unusual in that it had a reverse transom. http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=1916&BoatHistory=2433
  2. Thank goodness for that, she was beginning to surfer outdoors there.
  3. http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=10025&BoatHistory=16137 Hopefully the link will work, if were not to work she is called Romany ans appears to be a Robinson boat.
  4. Happy Birthday Robin. you are catching me up.
  5. When we were tenants at the Ship a car was left on our car park abandoned. I rang the Police who contacted the owner. He told them it had broken down and that he would come at the w/e to move it. At the end of that we still so we not moved no road tax may be no insurance who knows, anyway we pushed it onto the street and parked it by the bus shelter on the bus stop. Miraculously a low loader turned up a few hours later and it was gone. Lesson to be learnt speak to people all he had to do was ring me , or when he initially broke down speak tome. I of course had nothing to do with moving it as I told the Police when asked.
  6. Mine was a 1957 Standard Super 10 with an opening boot and up graded to a 1200 cc Spitfire engine and 5.5" rims. Went very well but very top heavy so it kept falling over
  7. Two methods of getting ashore at Salhouseand Salhouse 1939
  8. Hem my first job was working at A.V.Roes at Woodford and eventually ended working at a garage at the end of the runway. You may remember it Shrigleys Garage opposite Lightning mixers in Poynton. The sounds of the V bombers was just amazing, we were fitting new screens in the Vulcans.
  9. I am sorry to say it turns out that neither Alan nor I will be able to make the spring meet with Emily B. Barry
  10. The MOB jumble is usually early May.
  11. I remember in the day Ray Bondon built a boat for himself. It had a Powles International 38' hull with a lengthened Sancere superstructure fitted out by Bondons. So was it a Sancere, a Powles or a Bondon. Look her up she was called L' Hirondelle.
  12. My normal browser has frozen so I have had to use a different one. I am in fact springsong but it insists on calling me Bubble? go figure. Thank you anyway Peter.
  13. That's me on the reins some 68 years ago in more or less the same spot
  14. Morning all We are moving house and my lady wife has put her foot down with a firm hand and demanded I do something with the 16mm cine film of my Fathers two world tours by banana boat. I have also found a few colour slides mainly of me as a pre teen on the Broads. Does anyone have one of those slide carriers that fit on a scanner that they would be prepared to lend to me. If any one knows of any organization or person who might be interested in the 16 mm film please contact me.
  15. Very droll, that means funny to you, but I get ahead of myself you don't do funny do you Griff,
  16. This is the navigation seat with its swivel base attaches. All that is needed now is the carver seat to be attached. Another ace job.I think.
  17. Approaching the Ranworth turn, going upstream ie towards Horning.
  18. In photo 2 you can see bottom right the draining board in place although it will need final fitting.
  19. A bit of a gap between updates for which I apologise. The first photo is the reconstructed engine beds. The originals were not made for these engines, so now they have new beds and new mountings. The next is the Port side bunk with its boards fitted over the waste tank. The next is the same bunk with some cushions on for scene setting. The next No 4 is looking the other way ie forwards with the starboard bunk to your right. You can see in this photo at eye level an aluminium tool box sitting on a cushion, this is the original set up for sleeping four in the main cabin two bunks suspended above the other two. Photo 5 Alan is adapting on old pine carver which over the years has had its legs shortened. He is making for new pine legs for it. Then a swivel plate will be fitted and thus the helm (especially Me) will be able to turn around easily without dismounting. He comes up with all these aids to help especially my boating enjoyment.
  20. I am guessing that is the reason behind the naming of your hire fleet at Womack. Sir Galahad, Tristan Lancelot Etc. I often wondered.
  21. Another update from Lowestoft on Emily B. One of the fibre glass engine and gearbox drip trays manufactured in house by Robin, next photo is of same in situ for the starboard engine. There has had to be some alterations to the starboard engine beds as the starter was fouling. The help of an angle grinder and some welding soon had it fitting better, sorry about the photo being out of focus a new phone i gather. Fourth photo the I rather think starboard engine on the original Brooke Marine lift now licensed for 20 tons. Chris, Robins long suffering wife filling and undercoating the hull. The black water tank fitted under what will be the port bunk in the saloon, this will extend into the heads immediately aft, you can see it poking under the bulkhead. So things are moving along quite nicely, baring misfortune we will be at Beccles but maybe "camping" on board as the upholstery and fripperies may not have made it on board by then.
  22. I was told at the time thy were born on the wind from the continent, it was not pleasant walking down the Southsea front with them flying in ones face and crunching under foot.
  23. 1976 saw us on Ferry Pioneer, sorry about the odd photooto
  24. Yes they had complete sets of crockery and pans for each boat, they could then clean them for next week at their leisure. We had Vestella 6 in 1958
