  1. I gave SS Boatyard a call and now have full breakdown/prop cover. Hope I never need to call them, but great peace of mind; especially when we let the 'kids' (they are in their 20's !!!) out on their own.
  2. Well done Jonathan, sounds as though you are in good hands
  3. Beccles and Loddon would be our 'go to' places if you don't 'come south' very often.
  4. Think you should have a great week. The weather looks promising. We are at Loddon this evening ...... and will be heading 'north' on Monday. How many more NBN members are on the river this week? Lots I bet Happy cruising everyone.
  5. Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I agree the 'piece of mind' if something does go wrong must be worth every penny especially when family members take the boat out whilst we are not with them. So reading the replies, it looks like Boulters or Sutton boat yard - will take a look at both. Thanks again all
  6. Being a new boat owner, I'd class myself as having a relatively ''good' mechanical knowledge when it comes to performing basic maintenance tasks on cars / boats (engine servicing, basic electrics etc) and was wondering if most private boat owners invest in one of the boat recovery services that are available? And if you do have cover who would you recommend if you were moored on the southern broads ? more specifically in Beccles? Thanks
  7. amazing how quickly the weather changed - this was us 'heading south' about 10:30 am yesterday.
  8. good work Griff think we passed you on the A1 about 6pm as we were heading home ourselves after a weekend on the boat - I said to the misses; you know that guy from donny I told you about from the NBN forum ...... think that's his van!!!! small world
  9. thanks Grendel, need both L&R but not sure how many of each until we get down to the boat this weekend. yes this was the only website I could find - would need to give them a call to see if they can still get them if there's no other places who might have them in stock. cheers
  10. sure are ...... wanted for my Sheerline 1070 good idea though thanks
  11. something on my 'to do' list - anybody know where we can purchase some of these? done lots of www searches and can't find any? thanks in anticipation.
  12. Thanks for the clarification. I guess I did the right thing This forum has a wealth of knowledge
  13. Hi Vaughan, just seen your quote ref Plummer blocks ..........after being on my boat for a whole week (it was great to be on the river again - ended up visiting Loddon 3 times in a week!) I've come to learn I have a Plummer block on Karizma, and the grub screws were loose, so I tightened them up! - turns out, some say they should be left loose so the shaft has a little 'bow to stern' movement if needed. do you agree? or should the grub screws be tightened to the shaft? Steve
  14. Will do ..... on both counts. Once he's sorted me out
  15. I'm able to answer my own question - Glen returned my call last night. Hoping to meet him next week to sort out an alternator issue.
  16. anybody know if Glen is still active? - need a marine electrician
  17. Here's what we used this week to get on our boat, which is handy when your 'floating' pontoon doesn't float and you have a high spring tide! Wellies are optional extras .........
  18. Thanks for the info Vaughan, we have a Nanni 4.190HF and the service schedule suggests 200 hours (or at least every 12 months). Because we don't know the history of the engine (oil type used or frequency of change) I'll change the oil a couple of times this season and see how it looks then again just before winter storage. Wish i'd have had the opportunity to change it before the winter lockdown.
  19. as a matter of interest what are the boater 'go to' mineral oil, there's not many to chose from (as most motor stores are selling 'part' or 'fully' synthetic oils)
  20. afirmative it's certainly not easy choosing a 'simple' mineral engine oil nowadays ..... all these different options!!! thanks again, appreciate the advice from all. after finally managing to visit Karizma yesterday (300 mile day trip!) it was great to be on board again, but I have many more questions, so more guidance requests from a newbie to come!
  21. Hi John, Thankfully the engine and gear box specify the same oil type - 15w40 mineral oil, so I can't get that bit wrong
