  1. When we bought Karizma, she had two diesel powered air heaters on board, an Eberspacher D4 Heater which heats the main helm / living room and central shower area and a Webasto HL18 D heater which provides heat to the back bedroom. Over the last summer I stripped down, cleaned out and serviced the Eberspacher and it now works a treat, so now it was time to consider doing something with the Webasto, which by the way, has never worked since we’ve had the boat. So, I took it off the boat and brought it home so I could strip it down and take a look at it over x-mas. The first thing I found was that the diesel pump had seized up (guess the fuel had dried out with lack of use), so soaked it in WD40 and after a couple of days it freed up and once I’d connected a 12-volt supply, all was good. I’ve checked the glow plug and fan and those are all good, so the only thing I haven’t been able to test is the SG 1559 electronic control unit, but I thought I’d take the gamble and purchase a gasket service kit, put it all back together and see if it now worked. Well can I find anywhere that has a service kit in stock – no! Have these been discontinued? Anybody know where you can get them from before I throw it away and purchase one of the cheaper versions on the market now a days? ……… which might be cheaper than trying to get this one going!!! Thanks.
  2. welcome to the forum and thanks for saying hello .......
  3. Really jealous - wish we were down on the river this week. Looks very peaceful. Haven't been down since New Years Eve ....... which seems ages ago now, but hopefully back down in two weeks time
  4. Happy 2022 everyone - here's to a great year cruising, wherever you are.
  5. Hi Smoggy, sorry I missed you as I was sat down with the laptop surfing the forum, but Mrs Karizma (Tracy) was at the helm and remembers waving back. Steve
  6. Southern rivers vey quiet this week (as expected) but great to be out and about. Moored up at Rockland tonight, & New Inn open so a nice pint (or two) of London Pride but no food unfortunately due to staff shortages.
  7. think Waveney river centre do a 'self service' if you can get a token from the shop - might be worth a call on the landline.
  8. wow - now we know why you sounded fed up !!!! joys of owning our own boats
  9. Nice one Andy, sounds as though you've already filled most of your days (shame about West Ham ). I've also given notice that I will be retiring at the end of March 22 , but I guess I've done it the other way round - after hiring a boat in August last year (from HW), it brought back so many good memories from when my parents owned a boat, that we started looking round for our own craft and ended up buying Karizma in Dec 2020 just before the lockdown. We now cant spend as much time as we would like on her because of work, so have decided to finish. As you say, its quite a scary feeling (and I'm not even there yet), but they do say 'you only live once' and 'you are along time dead', so here's to 2022 .
  10. WRC - had a sign outside last weekend saying sorry no diesel. Darby's Quay - not heard of them - will take a look. Hippersons - are closed until 4th Jan
  11. Hi NorfolkNog, thanks for the reply, my tank is big enough, but we've already had 3 weekends out on her since the last fill up & I really didn't want to run it too low over the winter (condensation, diesel bug and all that stuff), so was hoping to find somewhere to keep her 'topped up'. I will just need to plan it better next winter
  12. yes - its been my first full year on the forum, and owning my own boat and I've certainly taken a lot of guidance from this forum, so thanks to everyone for their contributions. Keep safe everyone and have a great Christmas and a wonderful 2022 on the river.
  13. thx for the recommendation. contacted them but unfortunately they close today until 4th Jan.
  14. Wanting to do some cruising over Christmas and the new year but don't want to leave the diesel tank too low, so does anybody know of places that might be open on the southern broads between x-mas and the new year where you can get diesel?
  15. Hippersons boat yard in Beccles might be worth a call if they want to stay on the southern broads.
  16. That's what id like to see done. It would still retain the historic values of the bridge whilst allowing more craft to go under again. It must be 35 years ago since I last went under PHB, on a hire craft from Martham Boats (one of the Juliette cruisers) and I would love to do it again on Karizma - with me at the helm
  17. What a minefield picking the right oil is now a days! I've got a Nanni 4.19HE and after lots of research decided to put Morris Classic Marine 10W-40 in it - seems to be great.
  18. great piece of work - very interesting........
  19. Hi craigmc67, how exciting for you ........... I was in a similar position this time last year, when we had our 'new' boat moved from the Thames to St Olaves in Dec 2020 and then had our first trip on her as we 'gingerly' cruised to Beccles to get her to her new moorings (Hippersons), just round the corner from you and petersjoy (we must all meet up some time next season! - any more members Beccles based?). I say 'gingerly' as this is when you really get to start 'knowing your boat'; what works and what might need attention. So unless you know the history of your new boat, then I'd recommend taking your time and take 'small steps' from Horning to Beccles, building confidence in her (and yourself) as you go. We'd had a cruiser in the family for many years, and I'd say I knew enough about boats to be confident in myself, but there's nothing like 'getting to know' your own boat. Once you've crossed Breydon, Reedham ferry (if not flooded) or Loddon are good places to visit if you have some spare time before heading to Beccles. All the best in your new adventure - you'll be making memories every day from now on.
  20. Moored up at Loddon tonight and gave Norfolk Lady a wave as we were approaching the basin. Need to stop and say hi at some point...........
  21. Have a great time. We are down late Friday night and will be 'heading north' some time next week.
  22. Welcome & good luck with the search ..........
  23. Having only owned our boat for 12 months, our plans for 2022 are staying in the uk and cruising, cruising, cruising on the boards as often as we can. In 2021, from unlocking the country in April to now, we've done 200 engine hours (I've got to now do my 2nd service!) running up and down the rivers of the broads, crossed Breydon 6 times (3 times each way) and enjoyed every minute of it. Lets hope I can do 400 hours in 2022 as it means I'm having a great time !! Steve
  24. This is what a modern Futaba 2.4g Tx looks like now a days
  25. really interesting - any chance you can provide a link to see what you have bought?
