  1. Hi Andy - 3 x Cyrix Victron Energy 12 volt 100 amp - are they combiners or splitters? Hi John, will establish the above once I've traced more of the wiring - though it does give me something to look out for - thanks. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't 'dig' this deep, on the basis that "if it's not broken ......... "
  2. not sure John, its how she was when we bought her last year. I have 5 batteries in total; 2 banks of 2, and 1 on its own (engine), all linked together via 3 battery combiners. I also have the solar panel with 2 charging outputs via the PWM, and 2 alternators (but haven't yet worked out where they go yet, just need more time on her). The good news is everything works just fine, so no need to mess about with anything - I'm just keen to learn and understand more
  3. Hey, nice to have met you both at Wroxham last week. We are home now but already looking forward to our next trip down. Hope to see you both again (on the Southern rivers maybe? !) some time soon. Happy cruising. Steve
  4. what a good idea - thanks
  5. Thanks for the comments & expanding on the logic. on that basis I'll save my pennies for something more worth while. My only challenge now is to trace the wiring from the inverter and figure out which battery bank it is charging, as i have 3 battery banks and the solar panel is connected to 2 of them (two house banks), so I'm hoping the inverter is charging the 3rd bank (engine), or maybe all 3 banks ........ who knows. My next trip down might find enough time to develop Karizma's wiring diagram a little further! Thanks again.
  6. Related question - do some install battery chargers on their boats even if they have a separate inverter charger on board that provides 240volts as well as charging capabilities when connected to shore power ? I have an inverter/ charger on my boat (Sterling Pro Combi), and a single solar panel, so wondering what benefits might be if I invest in dedicated battery charger(s)?
  7. I'm sure the 4W's will have a great time
  8. I used Paul Douglas from Beverley Transport https://boatsbyroad.com last October, transporting from the Thames to St Olaves on the broads and he was excellent - sorted everything out at both ends - all stress free !
  9. We were at the Lock Inn the same evening as BA, so I tried looking for a 'Purdy dog' to say hello to the crew........ little did I know that it was Johnathan et al on board / in the pub! BA then came into Hippersons on the Sunday afternoon and had to wait in the basin with Johnathan at the helm whilst Karizma got a pump out - did a great job
  10. Welcome to NBN and well done for going 'solo' ..... my Mrs is good on the ropes but would never be at the helm when setting off / mooring up! We are relatively new on here, and yet to meet anybody face to face but there's lots of support from this forum for sure. PS: just left the Lock Inn at Geldeston for a little night cruising and 'BA' was moored there but nobody on board for us to say hello to !
  11. welcome aboard - 6 years was certainly a long time to say hello
  12. welcome, I'm sure you will enjoy every minute being on her. we are relatively new to boat ownership (Oct 2020),but its taken over our lives ....... we look forward to packing the car and drive down on Friday evening for a 'relaxing' weekend. enjoy.
  13. snap - we were there two weeks ago - great meal in the Wherry ...... but you need to book a table if you want to eat inside, as it was very busy.
  14. great skills - I have no idea how you do all that, but certainly appreciate the attention to detail & workman ship. thanks for sharing.
  15. Just to let you all know where I've ended up ....... which was the simplest solution in the end! Contacted Apple directly and asked if I could safely charge my MacBook using a USB A to USB C cable on a 12v DC supply - and they said yes, should be no problem at all - less than £6 from Amazon - result !!! Can keep the MSW inverter for the microwave and the drill thanks for all your comments - always educational and appreciated. PS: moored up at Reedham tonight having a great time on the river
  16. thanks for asking your network CC - think that just about decides it then!!!
  17. An interesting fact ............. my parents first privately own boat was moored at Rowan Craft in Geldeston and was called TWIG. She was a 'Hippersons 30' craft built by Hippersons in Beccles in the early 60's. The name TWIG came from the owner who ran ............ The Wherry In Geldeston
  18. this is what Sterling Power said ................... "Most laptop chargers I know are absolutely fine to run off of quasi. I know some Iphone chargers do not run brilliantly off of Quasi, but I have never heard of anything regarding a MacBook Pro. You may have to consult with Apple, I’m afraid. I believe personally it will be fine, but I have no evidence regarding" still not reassuring enough to 'give it a go'
  19. "clockwork timer" ................ that sounds similar to ours
  20. Hi Smoggy, yes the microwave (that was also installed on the boat when we got her) works fine. Though it does look a few years old, so maybe a more modern model might not.
  21. I have an email into them also will share the feedback if I get a reply ..........
  22. I have a Sterling Power Modified Sine Wave inverter on board Karizma and understand that they are little restricted on what you can use them for when needing 240v. Whilst getting to know the boat over the last few months, we've realised we don't really need it, other than for operating the microwave on occasions! Question is: i'd really like to use it to keep the MacBook Pro charged up whilst 'off grid' but have been concerned if it would damage the charger (or the laptop) if I plug it in to a MSW inverter. Anybody been 'brave' enough to try one? and was it ok?
  23. I gave SS Boatyard a call and now have full breakdown/prop cover. Hope I never need to call them, but great peace of mind; especially when we let the 'kids' (they are in their 20's !!!) out on their own.
