    Mooring

Hi and welcome Normally hire yards are reserved for hire boats but I think Faircraft Loynes may let you moor there if they have room and you ask nicely. I guess other yards may, at their discretion, again if they have room. Don’t try on a Friday or Saturday though! You can moor outside the Hotel Wroxham although there is a £10 fee overnight. I believe you can moor at the café, again a fee is payable. I have a feeling that you may be able to moor in the old Moores yard on a visitor basis but someone else may be able to advise on this. I’m assuming that you are not able to get through the Bridge? Plenty of moorings through there if you can, Horseshoes and Viaduct moorings.
  2. Bit better view of the starboard side Gary! Seriously though, you are doing a fantastic job bringing this lovely old girl back. Best of luck and please keep us posted with your progress!
  3. Thanks Gary, that picture was taken on 19th May.
  4. Is it the one on the extreme right of this pic? Its not got a red canopy though....
  5. That is a generous offer indeed
  6. Only one I'm afraid, sorry Clive All stills - I try to keep the camera handy especially when passing classic craft!
  7. Looking very smart too!
  8. Fantastic stuff Clive, I bet she will look like new when you've finished
  9. Hi Paul Very sorry to hear about your experiences. Also very sad that the yards concerned were not holding their hands up. We did meet you both briefly in the Berney on 19th May, my apologies, I didn’t realise you were a forum member!
  10. We called in at Bramerton last week and popped into Richard’s shop. It’s in a lovely setting right next to the river. The rear half is the workshop and Richard demonstrated his industrial sewing machines which will just about stitch through anything! Mrs Nog was most impressed. The shop part is full of various boating goodies as well as fishing gear and a wide range of cleaning products. Richard also stocks an interesting selection of gifts as well as essential groceries and provisions. Really well worth popping in if you up that way. Had a most enjoyable chat with Richard too before a brief visit to the pub. Highly recommended.
  11. Just got back from a most enjoyable 2 weeks. We actually used 92 litres over that period and travelled all over the Broads, North and South. So I was quite happy with that. I think most hire yards charge out at around the £1.40 mark however as has been discussed fuel can be bought at around £1.15. For example this is the amount that Horning Marina Services charge. I had an interesting discussion about this at the yard and it would appear that a small premium on fuel is actually built into the cost model when calculating hire charges. This in effect means that if the fuel were cheaper you would pay more on the hire charge. So it’s swings and roundabouts. As I would regard myself as a reasonably frugal fuel user, I am quite happy with this arrangement! Let the full throttle merchants bear the cost! I think there is quite a nice irony in that!
  12. Nail on the head springs to mind Keith!
  13. Wasn't that Wigans Chosen few Carol?? used to play that years ago when I did a disco......
  14. I'll do that Geoff!!! I was more worried about being subjected to Rooney and Co whilst trying to enjoy my beer! I've been away before in May/June and there are these white flags with red stripes everywhere......
  15. I’m getting a bit alarmed about the mention of the ‘F’ word (no, not Fosters) Can anyone offer me any reassurance that there will not be any of this infesting our pubs particularly during the last two weeks in May????? Many thanks
  16. Just been looking at the Humpty Dumpty web site. They have added a ‘cookie warning’ and get you to agree to having cookies stored if you want to look at the site. Otherwise (if you don’t agree) you get redirected to Google apparently. They did stress in the message that they do not store or use any data about the user. I can’t view it again though as it only appears the first time you visit the site!
  17. I agree. Royall Velvet may need up to 7 feet clearance at Potter. Don’t like to be pessimistic but I think your chances could be slim. A dayboat is a good option. Also the Pleasure Boat is a very good and much improved pub. As is the Nelson Head at Horsey.
  18. Hi From memory the cost was £10 last year. This is for the return trip as if you go through you want to come back again presumably! As Julz mentioned passage is very much dependant on weather conditions at the time and cannot be predicted or guaranteed. It’s always best to have a Plan B where Potter Heigham bridge is concerned. Hiring a dayboat is one option.
  19. I suspect you've hit the nail on the head there Carol!
  20. It was certainly well and truly closed and up for sale in December. There are always rumours about activity on the site but I can’t see much happening with it at the moment. Also, yes, it has been both an American diner and a chinese.
  21. He seems to have disappeared from the members list
  22. Hi Sutton Staithe is a nice place for a last/first night stop and very handy for the boatyard. The hotel is popular and the moorings can fill up quickly at busy times. Gays Staithe (just off Barton Broad) is a nice spot and you can walk to Neatishead village (good pub – the White Horse). You can moor at the village staithe further up Lime Kiln Dyke but it is very tight particularly at busy times. There are plenty of moorings at How Hill if you fancy a quieter stopover and still within easy reach of Stalham. Also you can moor at Ludham Bridge. There are now moorings at both sides of the river. Riverside shop and (IMHO) one of the best pubs on the Broads – the Dog Inn. This would be about an hour and a half to two hours from Stalham. Wayford Bridge is a possibility but moorings here are very limited indeed.
