I think some of you may have long forgotten the history - when they originally purchased Brooms it came with plans to develop the land up by McDonalds as Brooms new factory! Surprise surprise then ,that that was all dropped to be turned into housing. Don't forget that that these guys are venture capitalists and find the original posts and you will see it all laid bare at the time. My guess is substantial capital has been withdrawn as "dividends" as well!! The brand name is not even worth exploiting - it is years since they sold any proper offshore boats as they then built and all the staff and ancillary businesses have been gradually wound down. I think there is a term for that? Anyone expecting to develop the existing yard would have a huge battle with planning and in any case you know what happens to houses built on a marsh against a background of rising water levels....! Its a pale imitation of what existed when originally sold and if any prospective purchaser cannot see the smoke and mirrors, then thats their issue! Brooms have no name or place in that market compared with what existed before.

I wasn't aware that they had specific dredging rigs - they all seem to long reach JCB type diggers attached to floating structures and are used for a number of functions. Undoubtedly they are leased and perhaps the lease has come to an end? And of course the fact may emerge they are just renewing equipment? Seems plausible but without corroboration, we just won't know exactly what is going on. JA your post suggests they are reducing the number of dredgers - is that fact or supposition I wonder?

Andrew - You have your own boat where the comfort is - the other boat is an extra with which to have fun!! They are really oversized sailing dinghies but they are exceptionally good to have as an extra to go sailing!! As to comfort they are open boats with a good cover but although occasionally you do still see people out living on them for short periods, but that would be very hard work for an aged git like me!!! Done that many a time - even this year the cost peak season of a Rebel is only £400 a week, a bargain to sail a performance craft. Just looking for fun, take a lugsail half decker for just £300 or so quid- and they sail well single handedly whereas the Rebels and the bigger boats require more effort and crew, particularly in a decent breeze!!

Grendel - presumably your comments equally apply to the underlying issue purporting to be the cause of this flooding!!!

What and where is the Norfolk Weather Centre - any average figures from them would be suspect anyway as the weather in W Norfolk is very different to that within the Broadland catchment area. You will never get any scientific data so why not accept anecdotal evidence, instead of just dismissing it purely because it doesn't agree with what others may believe! The world these days is just too full of experts and people believing they are right, and everyone else is wrong!

I agree its a trifle odd but I wouldn't dismiss what he says on that basis alone. He has obviously been around a lot and merely giving his opinion as it was clearly asked for. You will either believe him or not - bit like Americans with Donald Trump! Ooops - is that a political comment????

You might not be wrong Vaughan - February is a notoriously cold month up here in deepest Norfolk!!

Andrew - clearly the RNLI are the people you need to ask but my guess is that they would say that the area is well covered If a private organisation feels the need to add to this cover, then thats their prerogative, However clearly because of beach erosion and perhaps other funding issues, they do not feel its necessary. There is of course the other independent station at Caister which has an ILB and indeed a much bigger one too. Mundesley also has, I believe, a volunteer boat Having been involved in Lottery grants once or twice, they often come with other issues with conditions attached. The Hemsby LB is often tasked to issues on the Broads as its trailable - handy to have around given the area covered but how often did you see posts, particularly on the apparently now extinct "other side", as to whether the lifeboat was actually needed? Difficult to answer that I know, but such a boat is a resource which is of value, but it's questionable how many rescue boats are needed in this relatively small area of coast. In the summer the RNLI also have lifeguards on selected beaches and they have available jetskis with rescue sleds.

All things are relative Andrew - not much point in having an electric cooker and having a thumping Perkins or BMC1.5 banging away below decks.!!! As far as China is concerned, perhaps Australia could stop selling them coal - that might help too!!

Probably a steam pump chimbley - i don't recall one in that location and many were a bit tapered. However artists were well known to embroider their pictures applying a measure of artistic licence!!

So, if you have not been back you will not be in a position to comment on whether its vibrant or not? The previous post seems to suggest it is just as so - like it or not I would suggest the ban came about simply because of the noise made by the high speed boats? It may be as vibrant but "quieter" as well !!!! I don't know but I guess the noise issue was caused by Windermere sitting in a natural basin and the noise just reverberated around - walkers on the fells surrounding the area certainly won't miss the noise caused by those boats. My guess is that in all probability there are just as many, but differing types of boats now. I would be happy to be proved wrong and pictures of empty marinas will prove that!

Then MM you had better express your concerns to the EA who approve all dredging, and certainly on that scale - the BA are just a small part of the equation!!

I think I saw on a post quite sometime ago, think it might have been ExPilot, who keeps a close eye on Potter, the figure on how much water levels have risen over the last decade or so or perhaps two. Somebody, somewhere will know! Don't forget too that this year has been exceptional from a rainfall point of view and even in the Wensum part of Norwich, levels have been high. I saw a picture the other day that it had been touch and go at New Mills a week or so back with the Wensum up nearly to the top. The water meadows at Postwick Bends have also flooded and I have not noticed that for a quite a few years - don't think they are a great deal to do with the fabled Bure Hump but could indicate problems releasing too much water from the Bure if you have a blocking tide in the Yare. That fresh water has to go somewhere and we have to be careful of making hasty judgements - or so I believe. Its a fear of the Law of Unintended Consequences!

Ferry Marina Horning have a good selection., but a fridge may be more difficult. Broads Tours in Wroxham have them I think but whether Herbert Woods do not sure - you may have to ask them. Yes you can keep them overnight, and I don't see that being a problem but if you hire an electric one, and there are a few about, you would have to find if you can recharge where you are staying - unlikely! The Ensign 21 from Wayford looks a good bet but doesn't seem to have a fridge but is in reality a mini cruiser and not a day boat style non of which would seem to meet your criteria. It may have a socket for an electric cool box. I would guess that may get booked up quite early and is only 20 mins from Barton

Always wash your mudweight by dangling it just under the water - the guy on the trip boat from Fairhaven has twice rushed over and told me I cannot moor and all I have been doing is dangling to remove mud!
