  1. I got the email yesterday but I could only read it in plain text. I logged into the online system to pay our tolls but the system failed just before the actual payment screen, after about four pages of box ticking. I contacted the toll office and mentioned that I was having difficulties, they said there was issues on Chrome but not Internet Explorer, they mentioned that their IT guy was looking into it. Maybe we should offer to send in Jonzo or Alan? I was asked if I wanted to pay whilst on the phone, maybe in a couple of weeks if they have not sorted their online problems. Regards Alan
  2. Hello Hardguy007, Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  3. Hi Strowager, Is it as long ago as that? If I remember correctly the skipper was awoken by the movement and tried to start the engine to try and stop their travel towards the bridges, I think one of the ropes got caught in the prop. Was it one of Richardson's boats? I think the family cut their holiday short after the experience. Regards Alan
  4. The Caledonian canal especially Loch Ness can be rough at times and then can be flat as a mill pond. We were moored on a mooring buoy on the edge of the loch and everyone was the worse for wear other than me and the baby. We must get back to the Caledonian again, but the costs involved means most people appreciate the low cost of Broads Hire. Regards Alan
  5. Hello Alison, We would rather moor at Stokesby than at Yarmouth. Regards Alan
  6. Lady Miranda (N171) Built in 1967 to a Broom design (Broom 37) according to Craig's list after 1993 it was no longer listed as being on the Broads. Regards Alan
  7. Hi Strowager, There is no guarantee that the above adapter is in fact fused ? or is there a a fuse aperture fitted on the face we can not see. if there is a fuse I would not like to see it being larger than 3 amp. It's a pity that the double 13 amp sockets with the usb sockets do not incorporate a spur outlet again with a 3 amp fuse. Regards Alan
  8. Both of our bilge pumps and floats are mounted in perforated baskets that are then fastened onto bearers in the bilges, to work on these you just remove the connections and unfasten them and take them out into the light. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Simon, Southern Crusader does operate on fixed weeks but Ranworth Breeze's allocations are drawn out of the hat each year. Regards Alan
  10. Too right Iain, 60 days minimum or in some cases 90 days, usually the money is safe, but it does not put a Sunday roast on the table Regards Alan
  11. Hi Roy, Here is a link to your syndicates advert. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Perkins-Marine-Diesel-Engine-MC42-104-19-/252279998296?hash=item3abd0f4758:g:RCEAAOSwezVWt1gi If the add is correct with 7300 hours use, the boat must have been moored up for most of its life, taking into account the number of years it has been in service. Regards Alan
  12. Hello Frank, Here is a link to the BSS inspectors in our area. http://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/boat-examination/arranging-the-examination/find-an-examiner/?counties=Norfolk&search= Regards Alan
  13. Hi Alan, We use the Rule float switches on-board Ranworth Breeze, I had to replace one last season, as usual Brian Ward's had them in stock. I had been working fine all week of our allocation, I had even tested both of the bilge pumps that morning. We stayed to meet the next owners who wanted a recap on the general operations of the boat and lo and behold it would not work. So old jeans on and into the bilges and removed the complete pump and float switch. I tested these on the staging and found the float at fault, but replaced both (these had been in operation for 14 years). The old pump is now in the boat kit (after cleaning) as a spare. Regards Alan
  14. Our operating costs on Ranworth Breeze vary each year dependent on what work is required each year, breakdowns, or upgrades. 2014 was over £12000 and last year was under £10000. As already said syndicates spread the costs over several owners. The costs involved depend on where you are moored, who does the servicing, any servicing done by the owners effects the costs in boating to a high degree. If I was to break down cost on an average boat if all work was done by a third party then the costs would be, as below highest to lowest. Servicing, Mooring, Insurance, River Toll. Regards Alan
  15. Hello Adam, Welcome to the NBN forum from Tan & myself. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Grace, We all know you hide down in the cabin when encountering any bridges and those boats that keep zig zagging all over river. Do you actually spend any time at the helm or watching the scenery of the broads? Regards Alan
  17. I am just nosy and checking out who is going to run the bridge, that is of course after waiting for Grace to finish on the camera. Such a pity the camera at the Hotel Wroxham is no longer working, when we were there in November for our AGM I did mention to the owner that it would be a good idea to reinstate it. Regards Alan
  18. At least 4 to 5 pints and chips on the way home. Regards Alan
  19. I once did some work in a MP's house, he showed us his floor to ceiling cupboard of House of Commons whisky, hundreds of bottles of shall we say discounted booze, he seemed proud, it was not what I was thinking. Regards Alan
  20. Hello Strowager, The last time I saw any of those was in the mid to late 70's in the basement of the Dublin Post Office, we were installing tandem generators to charge the battery banks. We needed to call a number in the UK which was engaged the exchange engineer then showed us how easy it was to connect to that number after walking up the banks of switch gear. Its a pity to loose all of your old skills, have you ever thought of using them on setting up old jukeboxes? Regards Alan

  23. Hi Branden, I agree with all of the above which is all just common sense. As you know we have a canopy on board Ranworth Breeze, which in its self is a contained area, to retain the confines of the upper deck when the canopy is fully down or the doorway sections are rolled up, we attach canvas dodgers that we had made so small children can not rush out onto the railed walkways around the boat. Never leave a child unattended, we have all seen children sat on their own or with siblings sat on the back or even on the roofs of boats without life jackets on. Children do like boats, just make sure they are safe. Regards Alan
  24. Hi James, My favorite places on the Northern Rivers are:- Womak staithe, South Walsham Broad, Malthouse Broad, Stokesby and if space outside the Hotel Wroxham Southern Rivers:- Brammerton Green, Rockland St Mary Staithe, Loddon Staithe, Beccles, Oulton Broad Regards Alan
