  1. I saw a report somewhere last week that there are some squirrels in parts of the country that are suffering from some form of leprosy, by all accounts it can not be transferred to humans, not to sure about other animals. The report said not to approach them, after saying that squirrels are not the cute animals they appear to be. http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/28/wildlife-experts-appeal-to-public-after-under-threat-red-squirrels-are-hit-by-leprosy-outbreak-4849578/ Regards Alan

  17. Hi Tim, We not only have the NBN Burgee on the bow of the boat we also have a wind indicator, we have always had these on the boat, they need changing every season but find them indispensable. Getting the mooring right is a pleasure especially if mooring at the likes of The Hotel Wroxham with everyone watching, Tan goes onto the bathing platform ready with the aft rope, I have the bording ladders down and bow ropes laid out so I can step down with a rope. It does not always go right as you all know hence why I always both ladders down and ropes ready incase I have to turn around and moor on the other side. Regards Alan

  21. Hi Ian, We have all done it at some time, at some time on Ranworth Breeze the centre off morse had been changed to one without, so it was very easy to catch it. Needless to say we changed it in 2012. Regards Alan

  23. Hi John, There has been a similar response to the rivers and canals in the centre of Leeds. Why can't these authorities tell the difference between duty of care and the rights of the individual. Its one thing making access more difficult to waterways but fencing off is costly and a restrictive practice, had a barrier been in place then maybe the person in this story may not have been in the water. It is certain however that the rescuers would not have been able to help the man. Most of these incidents and fatalities on the Broads have involved drink in some form or other. Sadly people if inclined will jump in rivers, off bridges and under trains no matter what restrictions are put I place to prevent them. People are attracted to water, I always have been, nearly drowned twice and I still can not swim, but I am not frightened by water, just cautious one hand for yourself, one for the boat. Could this be why sailors were called "Hands"? Regards Alan
  24. Hi Iain, I have found this location map. http://www.thekelpies.co.uk/location By the looks of it we would have had to go down several locks to get down to the Kelpies. Regards Alan
  25. Hi Iain, I am surprised that the visitors going to the Falkirk Wheel is only a million, the site was very busy on the three days that we went on site. The first time was via car to check out the wheel and where we had to go to collect the boat, The office was inside the complex but the boats were moored on the canal below the wheels basin lower lock. Where about is the location of the Kelpies in relation to the wheel. I assume they must be nearer to the centre of Falkirk, we had to go down to the next lock in order to turn around the boat before returning to the boat yard. Regards Alan
