  1. I have just looked on the Oulton Broad webcam this morning the Marina and Yacht Station moorings are full but there was just one boat moored outside of the Wherry Hotel. I would assume this will all change today. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Tim, I would think by 1960 although the finish of the boat would have been varnished timber built on traditional lines the crockery and fabrics would have been very modern and up to date. As a child of the 50's we were still rebounding from World War 2 but there was innovations in the kitchen, crockery & china, fashions & materials and for some reason gourde wallpaper. I would look for some bright white based crockery/china with a small pattern to go against your darker timber, if your budget would allow have a look for some Foley, Aynsley or Shelley china. Regards Alan
  3. Hi Strowwager, You and me both, on the very rare times we venture into Sheffield I take Tan for protection Holt is a great place, we like to go there leading up to Christmas, we may do again this year being as we are on the boat from the 2nd to 9th December, prepared its a great time to be on the rivers. Regards Alan

  5. A passer-by jumps into the River Wensum to rescue an elderly man yesterday afternoon, both men were pulled from the water by holiday makers on a cruiser. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/passer_by_jumps_into_norwich_river_to_rescue_man_1_3737020 Updated report:- http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/brave_passer_by_jumped_into_river_to_rescue_man_1_3737160 Regards Alan
  6. A bearded man described to be in his 60-70's is being sought after his attempted robbery of a bank in holt. For once I am glad I was in Sheffield, for the story please see the following story:- http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/crime/we_don_t_expect_things_like_this_to_happen_hunt_is_on_for_older_man_who_attempted_to_rob_a_holt_bank_1_3737147 Regards Alan
  7. Hi Alan, It would seem and a few have said to are careful with your brass, are you sure you don't come from Yorkshire? Regards Alan
  8. Hello June, You may find it slightly less busy on the Southern Broads but not until after the bank holiday, places where you can book mooring such as the Oulton & Beccles Yacht Stations will more than likely be now fully booked. Reedham yesterday was full for the evening and one of our owners on Ranworth Breeze was double moored outside of the Nelson and all the other boats were tightly packed into all of the spaces. It will be a case finding a mooring earlier in the day or wild mooring or mud weighting on one of the broads. Regards Alan
  9. Hello Stranger, We have not been off line or had any issues of any kind. You will have lots to catch up on. Regards Alan
  10. The Fakenham Fair is being held on Saturday and people are being urged to support the event after the city centre fire. 11. Hi John, Great pictures, I am just trying to place where Ranworth Breeze (you will note she is flying the bungee) was double moored? Regards Alan
  12. Hello Kathleen, Welcome back to the forum and good to hear your daughter is recovering nicely and managing to get down to your boat. Regarding your issue if you have topped up both the diesel and water it is doubtful that the toilet tank is the problem. I would look in the bilges to make sure there is not some water collecting somewhere that the bilge pump can not reach. If you do not find any water anywhere then you will need to put some ballast on the port side. If the bilge pump does not come on automatically I would be inclined to fit a float switch onto the pumps circuit. Regards Alan
  13. I totally agree that you do not want going down river before slack water, a fast running river is not good should anything go wrong. On Ranworth Breeze we have to do all of our calculations especially going down river into Yarmouth. We need 9ft 8inch with everything down so we have to look not only for the time for slack water but also the height of the low tides. Over the years we have found that we have a warning going by the number of rungs on the ladders approaching the Yacht Station if we can see 7 full rungs out of the water there is 10 foot of air draft at the bridges. The height boards are somewhat sparse going down river and the lower height markings are almost unreadable. Coming up river is not an issue with height boards before and after the Yellow post. Regards Alan
  14. I wonder if the survey was taken during the Blackpool Illuminations , most of the chips I have had there are a bit dire, after saying that I have not been to Blackpool since the children were little and we stayed at Lytham St Annes not Blackpool. We have been to Devon every year since and of course the Broads. Regards Alan

  20. Hi Iain, I have seen this done on Narrow Boats, it uses a fortune of sealed cells and a diesel/electric combination drives, similar to the car versions of Hybrid drives. A fiend of mine has a Lexus Hybrid but he is trading it in for a new one before the battery warranty runs out. Regards Alan
  21. Hi Alan, Thank you for that I am sure that the information you have given may be of use to Doug who as your know is doing a very large restoration project. My thoughts on naming products are that we are not the BBC or Blue Peter so we do not have to say "sticky back plastic" Regards Alan
