  1. Hello Stumpy, Welcome back to the forum from Tan & myself. Sorry to hear about the BSE, I had a contract in the North East when they had a outbreak a few years ago, the measures enforced, caused problems on the roads and the sight of empty fields was depressing. When are you next down to the Broads? Regards Alan
  2. Hello Chris, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Sorry I can't help with information regarding the BMC spares other than saying look in our forum information pages for Broads based Engineers & Boat Yards. Regards Alan
  3. Hi John, I totally agree with using china, your Angela is the same shape as our Meadow Sweet. Regards Alan
  4. Hello Stowager, Guests or validating groups can only see the topics but not the pictures, I thought that to be a wise course of action as well as not being able to upload or download images! We have to protect the forum, every potential validating members ip has to be checked before we let them onto the forum. Moderators have to deal with spammers trying to get onto the forum every day, as Iain said the other day he is getting mouse clickers finger Regards Alan
  5. Hello John, I will check it out. Strowager, I set the rights so that full members can upload, but members should be able to see it. Regards Alan
  6. Thank you Paul & Janice, We tend to like peoples names on the NBN it is one of the reasons we all find it a friendly place to visit. Paul I can sympathise with all the cooking and washing up you have let yourself in for. The fist time I went boating was in 1974 on the Trent & Mersey Canal in a 10 berth narrow boat my fellow crewmates (the other five) were all women, you can imagine the shouts as we went past Armitage Shanks toilet factory, I was grinning from ear to ear, but Tan my girlfriend at the time kept me in check. The Caledonian is great waterway, we will have to go again. We are off on the Oxford Canal in a little over 3 weeks and back on the Broads in December Regards Alan & Tan
  7. Hi Strowager, Yes by comparison the Broads is very cheap regarding moorings but very little else. One of our owners left our syndicate a number of years ago, it could be have been around 2007, he bought a boat and kept it in the Hull Marina for £11000 per year! Regards Alan
  8. Hello Watershed, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. What was your previous login name and do you wish to revive it? Regards Alan
  9. Hi John, This is more like my hobbies, woodwork, collecting china and the odd woodworking plane. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Strowager, I quite agree regarding the number of boats that are hardly used not only on the Broads but nation wide. We used to have a time share cottage at Windermere Marina Village that overlooked all the boats in the marina, a few were taken out at the weekends but the vast majority of them just stood in the marina, there were corporate boats there such as Toys r us and the poorly named boat "I got it robing". Over the years we were there the Management tried to launch a syndicate boat a Birchwood 340AC, the trouble was that they pitched the deal wrong and as always were asking too much £16000 for a four week share and money each year into a sinking fund and a very high management fee, within a season the boat looked similar to the boats in Peters pictures. As you said with some people it is more money than sense. I always tended to walk around the marina and look at the boats especially those were for sale, a pipe dream maybe, saving very hard at the time maybe I could have bought a smaller boat, but I would have never been able to afford to moor a boat there. The price for mooring suitable for a 30 foot boat would have £5000 plus for 8 months, water & electric for the other 4 months was then negotiable, these prices were in 2000, I hate to think what they are now. Regards Alan
  11. Hi Kadensa, As well as being a plain Alan, I am also a Alan with planes Regards Alan

  15. Hello Jaffa6938, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Congratulations on your 34th Wedding Anniversary and on having two weeks on the Broads to celebrate it. What boat are you going on from Silverline? Edited, you have already stated the name of the boat. Silver Spirit. http://www.silverlinemarine.co.uk/hirefleet/Spirit.htm Regards Alan
  16. Hello Paul, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Steve, Thank you for letting me know, I have now tested this on a test login with hardly any rights. You will find that it is now fully working. Regards Alan
  18. Hello Moosey, Welcome the NBN from Tan & myself. http://www.ferry-marina.co.uk/cruiser-2 I would go onto the Richardson's website, they have a number of video's on there showing you how to moor, rope work etc. We do have links in our visiting the broads section, tide tables, bridge clearances. If you want any advice please ask, most of the forum members don't bite, well not too much, we all had to start on the Broads at some time. The main thing is to take it slow and easy. Regards Alan
  19. Hi Eric, I went through the wine making stage many years ago, I mostly used the kits but I did dabble with potato, rice & raisin, elder flower & elder berry. The trouble was a lot of these wines just tasted like sherry and sherry is a drink I can never get used to. Have a go with does a sparkling wine, its a bit of a faff with the stoppers that you keep having to pull the draw strings on and the trap on the demijohn needs to be a special one. Maybe you might be better off asking Jill for her recipe for the gin & vodka. Regards Alan
  20. Hello Biffo 15, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. The post that you have replied to is somewhat old, however I have taken on board what you have highlighted, we already had the BBC local Norfolk weather that was well used. I have amended the weather links to use some of site that were in this topic. These are all located in forums/visiting the broads/weather http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/forum/forum/281-weather/ Regards Alan

  22. Hello John, I am just a plain Alan, but welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Regards Alan
  23. Hello Jon, Because we moor at Brundall we have passed this classic boat on many occasions and have always thought that that it is a pity its classic lines were not being restored. Please keep us informed of its progress and pictures of its restoration. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Liz, Well that now puts a completely different slant on the story. The trestles used on this earlier bridge may be somewhat more like Carol's original picture. The more modern bridge with its embankment and the more modern signal box were not in keeping with the original picture. Regards Alan
  25. Hello Jason, Thank you for getting in touch and letting all your fiends know you are ok other than your current medical condition, which I hope will soon be remedied. I was in contact with yourself & Sonia when I was complying our listings of mooring & services information on the Northern & Southern Broads and you replied very quickly and were very gracious in your reply. I hope that you do continue to visit the NBN from time to time, we regard ourselves as a friendly and informative Broads forum where friends, acquaintances, suppliers can all feel at ease with Broads based issues, other waterways and general conversation. Regards Alan
